Financial volatility, monthly fluctuations in income and expenses, is a challenge in the lives of Americans across the income spectrum. And it is on the rise. The impact of this volatility is exacerbated by people’s lack of emergency savings. The Federal reserve found that 46% of adults say they either could not cover an emergency expense costing $400 or would cover it by selling something or borrowing money. In this presentation, we will discuss the newest research on the causes of volatility, how consumers feel the impact of it in their daily lives, and innovative user centric designs that financial institutions can adopt to address this critical customer need.

Massimo Faggioli: The Popes’ Secretaries, from Capovilla to Gänswein
America, June 2, 2016
Cardinal Loris Francesco Capovilla died on May 25, 2016, at the age of one hundred. He was the oldest living cardinal, but more importantly he had served as secretary for Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli—Pope John XXIII—from the latter’s appointment to the patriarchal see of Venice until his death on June 3, 1963. Capovilla was only made a cardinal at the consistory of February 2014, by Pope Francis, after John Paul II and Benedict XVI—who created two-hundred-thirty-one and ninety-three cardinals, respectively—had forgotten him. They had had their chances, especially after 1995, when Capovilla turned eighty, the age at which a cardinal loses the right to vote for pope and when such an appointment would have been electorally meaningless. It would have been a good way to thank him for his service to the global church in keeping alive the memory of John XXIII and of Vatican II.

Emilia, Silvia, Cindy Arlette y Giorgina.

Pay-for-Success Initiatives for Early Childhood Programsmdanielsfirstfocus
Evidence-based early childhood programs, such as home visiting and high-quality preschool, hold enormous promise to improve the early health, education, and development of at-risk children, helping them and their parents break the cycle of intergenerational poverty. Although Congress has increased investments in early childhood programs, these services reach only a fraction of the low-income children and families who could benefit from them. Pay-for-success initiatives, in which the government pays for set outcomes rather than social services, is quickly becoming a mechanism for local and state governments to finance evidence-based early childhood services for children and families. This webinar describes the basic concepts of pay-for-success initiatives and explores the goals, components, and status of three pay-for-success projects currently in development and in operation involving preschool and home visiting programs.

Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale warAntti Rautiainen
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.
