5. HER CHILDHOOD
She was born in a middle class
conservative Christian family, and
went on to study in Queen Mary’s
College, Chennai.
6. HER MARRIAGE
At the age of 17, she married to a Hindu
Brahmin boy Narayan against her
parents wishes.
7. A FAILED ONE
Thought, she fell for Mr. Right she
was heart broken, when he started
being a drug addict and abusive
husband who used to beat her every
alternate day.
This was never enough when she
realized he is not enough to be a
bread earner in family.
8. A DECISION CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE
Having no money, she borrowed Rs
100 from her mother, to start
something on her own.
9. A NEW BEGINNING
She started making Jams and Pickles
and used to sell them in her
mother’s office.
Hardly she knew all will get sold.
This made her confident that she can
do something for her own all by
herself.
10. SINCE 1982 TO 2003
She came to know that her father’s
friend is running a handicapped
school and providing free food cart
if, 2 handicapped people are trained
and employed along with food cart.
She grabbed this opportunity and
took it to new heights.
11. A STEP AHEAD
For 21 years, she continued
her food cart business at
Marina Beach and
remembers her maximum
earnings were Rs 25000 a
day.
Amidst, all these Chairman
of the Slum Clearance
Board saw how
hardworking she is and
gave her opportunity to
work at his office canteen.
12. ANOTHER TRAGEDY
When she realized
everything was perfect, her
daughter and son-in law
died in a car accident.
She was devastated
and shocked with this.
She was so depressed
that she lost all hopes
for her upcoming
victory.
13. A JUMP FROM OBSTACLES
From the tragedy, she again started with opening chain restaurants naming her daughter & Son-in
Law Prasan ‘SANDEEPHA’ who died in car accident.
14. TOWARDS HER DESTINATION
From nothing to having chains of restaurants names, she
is currently serving as the director of “SANDEEPHA”,
chain of restaurants.
From earning 50 paise on day one at her food
cart, she grew to earn Rs 600-700 every day and
Rs 25000 to be the maximum count one day.
18. She was the winner of the 2010 FICCI Women Entrepreneur of the Year
award
