Passive
1. PASSIVE
It is a way of saying the same than an active but
putting emphasis on the object.
ACTIVE: They (subject) make (verb(present)) cars(object)
PASSIVE: Cars (subject) are made(verb(present)) by them (agent)
TENSE ACTIVE PASSIVE
Present simple make/makes is/are made
Present continuous is making is being made
Going to am going to make is going to be made
Past simple made was made
Past continuous was making were being made
Present perfect have made have been made
Past perfect had made had been made
Future will make will be made
Future perfect will have made will have been made
Conditional would make would be made
Conditional perfect would have made would have been made
Infinitive to make to be made
Gerund making being made
Modals can make can be made
AGENT not for but by and it is not use in many cases
TWO OBJECTS
ACTIVE: They offered him (indirect object) a job (direct object)
PASSIVE: He (the indirect object) was offered a job (direct object)
A job (direct object) was offered to him (indirect object)
GET
You can use get instead of be if it is unspected. (not with like, know...)
There was a fight and He got injured
In get married/get divorced/get dressed the meaning is not passive.
IT IS SAID/HE IS SAID/
It is said that he is very rich
He is said to be very rich
The meaning is that people say but it is not sure. It happens with thought, believed, considered,
reported, known, expected, alleged, understood
HE IS SUPPOSED
It has the same meaning but it can also mean:
I’m supposed to be there at 9. It is planned
