Parte 1 vaccination program in farm animals
1. Prof. Dr Hamed Attia
Vaccination Program For Protection From Diseases
in Farm Animals
Part 1:
( Vaccination of shipping fever and clostridial diseases
2. 1 – What is the vaccine.
2 – What is the importance of
vaccination.
3 – Type of vaccine.
4 – Difference between vaccine
&hyper-immune serum.
5 – Most important vaccine used
in new born animals
3. What is a vaccine
● A vaccine is defined as a preparation of
dead or weakened pathogens, or their
antigenic components which induces
protective immunity against the specific
pathogen (micro-organism, tumour,
toxin), but which does not itself cause
disease.
.
4. Types of Immunity
1- Passive immunity of the newborn is
obtained via the colostrum of the vaccinated or
immune mother.
5. 2- Active Immunty
* Vaccines (like a natural infection)
induce a specific, systemic and /or local
humoral and or cell-mediated immune
response to initiate or enhance protection
of the host against a specific organism.
6. ▪ Owners must remember that vaccines do
not provide 100 percent protection against
infections and many factors determine how
much protection is provided.
Important Notes
7. ▪ The vaccine is designed to cause a mild
infection in the animal which leads to an
improved immune response
▪ Individual animal respond to a vaccines in
different ways due to factors such as stress,
immune status at time of vaccination.
Important Notes
8. ▪ It is also not a good idea to vaccinate a sick
animals since the animal will not develop
as good of an immune response as well as a
healthy.
▪ These animals should be vaccinated 2-3
weeks after recovering from the illness
Important Notes
10. Importance of Vaccines
Veterinary Vaccines are essential for:
1- Protection of individual animals
Herd immunity to break chains of
transmission
2- Safe and efficient food production
3- Control of emerging, re-emerging and
exotic diseases of animals and people
4-Reduction of transmission of food borne
disease.
11. 5- Control of zoonotic diseases and thus the
threat and/or impact on human lives (e,g,
rabies, influenza, Rift Valley Fever,
brucellosis etc
6- Reduction of animal suffering
7- Reduction in the need for antibiotics or
more costly alternatives to treat animals
8- Control of diseases of companion animals
and horses

24. PASTEROVIS®
is a vaccine for the
medical preventions of
the primary or
secondaries pasteurella
infections due to
Pasteurella multocida
and Pasteurella
haemolytica
27. Antibody titers
Antibody titers that peaked at day 36 after vaccination
and large inter individual variations in the magnitude of
the response.
Antibody titers were maintained up to 90 days and then
markedly decreased, becoming even undetectable in
some animals 6 months after vaccination

30. COGLAVAX®
(Clostridiosis): It is a
vaccine that contains 8
different clostridial
antigens in one single
dose. Clostridial
pathogens are ubiquitious
and cattle are at risk to be
hit by these diseases
during most of their lives.
31. Unique pasteurella and clostridial
combination vaccine
Bar-Vac®
Unique pasteurella and clostridial combination vaccine
offering protection against pneumonic pasteurollosis and
most common clostridial diseases
