How effective combination products ancillary texts Part 3
1. How effective is combination of your products and ancillary texts? Part 3
2. In our ancillary products we used a certain colour scheme throughout our products; this consisted of the background being black while we had gold and white typography. We decided to use this colour scheme because the gold and white typography stood out from the dark background; this symbolised the artists as they stand out in terms of their music as they stand out from the typical rappers. This colour scheme can also be seen in our actual music video, it can be seen mainly at the end of our video in our closing over shoulder shot. In this shot we have our main actor standing in front of the view of the city, the main lighting is dark as we filmed it in the evening but the city lights are bright and stand out giving that similar contrast of colours we use in our ancillary products. One thing which we included in all three of our products was the image of birds; this was our main image which we wanted to include throughout the products. The song which we used was ‘Caged Bird’ this is our main single so we used the birds throughout because it represented the song, the song is about the artists feeling trapped in the world around them which is represented by the ‘Caged Bird’ therefore we felt it was crucial to include the birds in all the media products. In our digipack we included on all the covers including the actual CD label an image of several birds which are white apart from one gold bird, this again was used to symbolise the ‘Caged Bird’ as the gold bird being surrounded by the white birds represented the isolation and trapped feeling. In the magazine advert we had our main actors leaning against the cage and had the white birds with the one golden bird flying out of the cage. We also included birds flying in our music video again to signify the birds which are the main objects being represented throughout .
3. Inflowential are quite unique compared to other group of rappers there music is not about the typical money, girls etc. So we wanted to challenge the typical representations of rappers; the main way we did this was through the clothing most rappers are associated with wearing hoodies and baseball caps we made one of our artists dress more smartly by wearing a cardigan and a casual jacket. We also didn’t want to represent our artists as gangsters as it would not fit in with the song and image at all, usually with rappers you see the imagery of guns and money we did not include none of this in any of our ancillary products again challenging the typical representations of rappers.
