It then outlines a 6-stage design sprint process: 1) understand the problem, opportunities, and stakeholders; 2) define goals and challenges; 3) diverge by generating many ideas; 4) decide on top ideas; 5) rapidly prototype solutions; and 6) validate ideas by testing with users. The presentation emphasizes conducting ethnography through everyday observations and testing prototypes with users in natural environments.
STRIVE aims to increase long-term employment for young adults aging out of foster care in Wilkes Barre by reaching out to local foster homes and employers, having certified staff help participants find suitable careers, and allowing individuals to freely explore different career paths. By helping them find steady jobs with room for growth and guaranteed income, STRIVE hopes to give these individuals a more promising future and the opportunity to achieve the American Dream. Statistics show that without intervention, many such young adults face bleak futures including lack of education, lower employment rates, homelessness, and other challenges.

This document summarizes the challenges of being a single parent with little money based on the author's experience. The author wants single parents to understand that if they survived such difficulties, they can achieve their dreams by taking action and building a system to make money online for financial security and fulfilling retirement dreams.

Enlighten Conference - Stewarding your donorsLucidity
Fundraising is about building relationships. The relationship that you have with your supporters is absolutely key to your fundraising success. But its not as simple as just asking people for money; great fundraising is about listening and then responding to your supporters needs, engaging with them in a way that is right for them, making it easy for them to get involved and showing them the difference they have made. Not just once, but again and again. For life.
With examples from both the charity and corporate world, this session will give you ideas about how to give your supporters the best and most rewarding experiences so that together you can make a lasting difference to the causes that you fundraise for.

NCE Summer Leadership Institute - Major Gifts and Planned GivingDave Tinker, CFRE
Dave Tinker, CFRE's slides for presentation on how Arc chapter leaders can start up a major gifts and planned giving program.
Presentation given on 7/25/14 at the National Conference of Executives (NCE) of the Arc of the US's Summer Leadership Institute in Chicago.
Many organizations are struggling with the gap between social media hype versus concrete results and return on investment. This session explores the way digital native organizations like Mozilla (makers of the popular open source Firefox web browser) are using smart collaborative tools and an “open everything” approach to optimize day-to-day work, bring in volunteer contributors, and advance their overall mission. If 2008 was all about going “viral” -- using the web to try and reach large numbers of people with relatively superficial engagement -- 2010 may be all about the opposite: using the right open web tools and best practices to empower smaller numbers of people to work smarter, increase impact, and get things done.
Attendees Will Walk Away With:
• A sense of where the web and social media are headed
• Best practices around “open web” tools and methods
• Ideas on increasing volunteer and community contribution inside and outside your organization

The overall message is that who you are is not defined by your job, so use job loss as a chance to reflect on your identity and passions.

The document discusses creating effective communication strategies for raising awareness about ocean conservation. It recommends establishing that the ocean has health, showing how human health is connected, communicating past harms, focusing on solutions and stewardship, being creative, and repeating key messages. The Marine CoLAB aims to cultivate public understanding of ocean systems and solutions through collaboration, experimentation, and framing issues around shared values. Their "changing health" story and reframing the ocean as the planet's body or climate's heart are presented as promising communication approaches.
This document summarizes trends affecting charities and nonprofit organizations. It discusses how the COVID-19 pandemic may accelerate changes to flexible working arrangements. Younger generations are having different views of charities that organizations need to understand. While Brexit continues to impact politics, charities must work to build relationships with new MPs and consider how to engage Conservative voters. Mental health and environmental issues are rising up public and political agendas. Charities are experimenting with pop-up events and spoken word audio to engage new audiences.

This document discusses a campaign by Fight for Sight called "20 Voices for 2020" that aims to raise awareness of the personal impact of sight loss in the UK. It will feature 20 supporter-generated videos sharing stories of how sight loss has affected people's lives. While supporter-generated content is authentic, it also poses risks like unsuitable language or poor storytelling. To address this, the document recommends carefully selecting case studies and having open conversations about language to guide stories in the right direction without compromising authenticity.

UN WOD 2024 will take us on a journey of discovery through the ocean's vastness, tapping into the wisdom and expertise of global policy-makers, scientists, managers, thought leaders, and artists to awaken new depths of understanding, compassion, collaboration and commitment for the ocean and all it sustains. The program will expand our perspectives and appreciation for our blue planet, build new foundations for our relationship to the ocean, and ignite a wave of action toward necessary change.
This report explores the significance of border towns and spaces for strengthening responses to young people on the move. In particular it explores the linkages of young people to local service centres with the aim of further developing service, protection, and support strategies for migrant children in border areas across the region. The report is based on a small-scale fieldwork study in the border towns of Chipata and Katete in Zambia conducted in July 2023. Border towns and spaces provide a rich source of information about issues related to the informal or irregular movement of young people across borders, including smuggling and trafficking. They can help build a picture of the nature and scope of the type of movement young migrants undertake and also the forms of protection available to them. Border towns and spaces also provide a lens through which we can better understand the vulnerabilities of young people on the move and, critically, the strategies they use to navigate challenges and access support.
The findings in this report highlight some of the key factors shaping the experiences and vulnerabilities of young people on the move – particularly their proximity to border spaces and how this affects the risks that they face. The report describes strategies that young people on the move employ to remain below the radar of visibility to state and non-state actors due to fear of arrest, detention, and deportation while also trying to keep themselves safe and access support in border towns. These strategies of (in)visibility provide a way to protect themselves yet at the same time also heighten some of the risks young people face as their vulnerabilities are not always recognised by those who could offer support.
In this report we show that the realities and challenges of life and migration in this region and in Zambia need to be better understood for support to be strengthened and tuned to meet the specific needs of young people on the move. This includes understanding the role of state and non-state stakeholders, the impact of laws and policies and, critically, the experiences of the young people themselves. We provide recommendations for immediate action, recommendations for programming to support young people on the move in the two towns that would reduce risk for young people in this area, and recommendations for longer term policy advocacy.

Combined Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) Vessel List.Christina Parmionova
The best available, up-to-date information on all fishing and related vessels that appear on the illegal, unregulated, and unreported (IUU) fishing vessel lists published by Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) and related organisations. The aim of the site is to improve the effectiveness of the original IUU lists as a tool for a wide variety of stakeholders to better understand and combat illegal fishing and broader fisheries crime.
To date, the following regional organisations maintain or share lists of vessels that have been found to carry out or support IUU fishing within their own or adjacent convention areas and/or species of competence:
Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR)
Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT)
General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM)
Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC)
International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT)
Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC)
Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (NAFO)
North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC)
North Pacific Fisheries Commission (NPFC)
South East Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (SEAFO)
South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (SPRFMO)
Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA)
Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC)
The Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List merges all these sources into one list that provides a single reference point to identify whether a vessel is currently IUU listed. Vessels that have been IUU listed in the past and subsequently delisted (for example because of a change in ownership, or because the vessel is no longer in service) are also retained on the site, so that the site contains a full historic record of IUU listed fishing vessels.
Unlike the IUU lists published on individual RFMO websites, which may update vessel details infrequently or not at all, the Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List is kept up to date with the best available information regarding changes to vessel identity, flag state, ownership, location, and operations.
