Welcome to Bachelor of Arts in Economics program!
Everything we do at BA Economics program is oriented to students’ success. This is why the program
is designed to produce graduates who can demonstrate expertise on economic concepts and theories
necessary to understand the functioning of the economy for economic analysis and policy-making,
develop skills in the formulation of project proposals, undertaking of economic researches, solving
mathematical problems and constructing economic models and perform with competence and dyna-
mism as a productive and innovative economic player who takes the initiative to lead for good
governance, economic growth and economic development. In line with this, one thing is certain, upon
completion of the program students will be prepared and equipped with the skills and competencies
needed to meet or exceed their career pathway expectations.

BA ECONOMICS PROGRAM HISTORY
The Bachelor of Arts in Economics is a program offered in Pangasinan State University
Lingayen Campus located in Alvear Street, Lingayen, Pangasinan. Pangasinan State University
is a state university that is mandated to provide advanced instruction in the arts, agricultural
and natural sciences as well as in technological and professional fields. PSU traces back its
beginning when it was chartered by Presidential Decree No. 1497 promulgated on June 11,
1978. It became fully operational on July 1, 1979. PSU's main campus is located in Lingayen.
The AB Economics Program is one of the pioneer academic programs in the PSU Lingayen
Campus, along AB English, BS Mathematics, BS Nutrition and Dietetics and Bachelor of
Industrial Technology. Its legal bases of existence are based on BOR resolution Number 17
s. 1982. It was initially offered on the second semester of the School Year 1982 - 1983. When
AB Economics program started, it featured a curriculum that allows students to become
analytical, mathematical, and dynamic in diagnosing economic issues and phenomena which
are important characteristics in problem solving and policy-making and caters to the needs
of the clientele who have the desire to serve the country especially on the administration of
economic planning and development, making them competent and competitive in the fields
of government and public affairs, private industry, consultancies, and higher graduate or
professional studies. It operated holding the following program objectives: (1) provide the
necessary concepts and theories, which could be used in economic analysis and interpretation
of data in the field of research which are useful index in socio-economic development; (2)
instill in the students the value of undergoing production as one of the major economic
activities leading to economic growth; (3) expose the students to various analytical and
statistical tools in economic analysis. (4) spearhead the students to participate in governance
so as to achieve political mobility towards better economy and social progress; (5) prepare
the students to become globally competitive in the field of economics, particularly along
entrepreneurship and be able to have comparative advantage relative to others
In 2007, the program had a curriculum review. Revision and enrichment of Curriculum of AB
Economics program was implemented and took effect on the SY 2015-2016 in compliant to
CMO.44 s.1997. The program achieved its Level II Accreditation status in 2006 and Level II
Re-accreditation status in 2013. In 2017, the program passed the AACCUP Level III
accreditation status.
In accordance with the CHED MEMORANDUM ORDER No. 32 Series of 2017, the AB Economics
program conducted series of reviews and evaluation for revising and enriching the existing
curriculum of AB Economics. The new curriculum now features a curriculum that is designed
to equip students with knowledge in economic theory and its applications and with essential
skills for undertaking economic analysis.

BA ECONOMICS PROGRAM MISSION
BA ECONOMICS PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Bachelor of Arts in Economics is a program offered in the Lingayen Campus of
Pangasinan State University. This particular program is designed to provide students
with an educational background and experience which reflects the setting in the life
of the economists in business enterprises and government agencies. The program is
grounded on the theoretical as well as applied economics which are intended to
sharpen the student’s analysis and understanding of the complexities of today’s
economy. The students are exposed to various tools, methodologies, theories and
orientations that will assist them in pursuing their careers in the field of economics.
Economics is the scientific study of how people allocate and use scarce resources.
With new developments in theory and methodology, the emergence of challenging
policy questions, and the presence of persistent economic problems, economics
continues to be relevant. Given the technical nature of the discipline, the primary aim
of economics education is to raise the technical competencies of learners, develop
their analytical and critical-thinking skills, and cultivate a habit of lifelong learning.
The BA Economics program is designed to prepare students for jobs that require
research and analytical skills in the public or corporate sector and to provide an
adequate and reliable intellectual platform for those who would like to pursue
advanced graduate degrees in economics as well as further studies in law,
management, finance,
international relations, and other related fields. The programs incorporate observed
trends in economics education, align teaching methodologies to specific learning
philosophies, and promote research competencies required by 21st century learners.
BA ECONOMICS PROGRAM GOAL
BA Economics program aims to inculcate to students their vital role as participant
in attaining economic development by instilling to them the value of national
commitment as a mechanism in facilitating nation’s growth and development

BA ECONOMICS PROGRAM OUTCOMES

Bachelor of Arts in Economics (BA Econ) is a four-year degree program that is designed to provide students
with working knowledge in economic concepts and skills in performing economic analysis and modelling and
economic policies necessary to understand the functioning of both national and international economy. The
program aims to give students an in-depth understanding of how various economic agents and institutions
(consumers, firms, government and foreign sector) work in determining the economic issues and problems the
society faces so as to create sound economic decisions and possible solutions with the application of both
microeconomic and macroeconomic principles, theories, and models. The study of economics is central to the
comprehensive understanding of markets, demand and supply of goods and services, businesses, government
policies, international trade issues, health, labor, banking and finance, economic growth and development,
environment among others. This is a program that is indented for students who would wish to become analysts,
researchers, advisors and economists in the public and private sectors. Graduates of the program may work in
a range of varied fields including public sector, business, finance, research and development, healthcare, real
estate, human resource management, sales and marketing.

Why do most students enjoy economics? Economics is the perfect combination of numbers and words, problems and
essays, calculations and interpretations. It is both an art and a science subject. Students have the opportunity to build
models which give insights into the real world, and then to critique these models on the basis of their assumptions.
There is rarely a right answer in economics but any argument put forward must be backed up by quantitative evidence.
Students ultimately enjoy economics because it allows them to employ and develop analytical and evaluative skills.
Economics graduates are well equipped, having analytical and problem-solving skills, numerical and computer skills,
as well as the ability to work well either alone or within a team. The skills, traits and attitude that will help the students

WHAT DO ECONOMISTS DO?
The employment of economists is expected to grow 6 percent from 2008 to 2018. According to the Occupational
Outlook Handbook:
Economists do a myriad of things. For example:
In business, economists often analyze economic conditions, make forecasts, offer strategic planning initiatives, collect
and analyze data, predict exchange rate movements, and review regulatory policies, among other things.
In government, economists collect and analyze data, analyze international economic situations, research monetary
conditions, advise on policy, and do much more.
As private consultants, economists work with accountants, business executives, government officials, educators,
financial firms, labor unions, state and local governments, and others.
In May 2008, the median annual wage and salary earnings of economists were $83,590. The middle 50 percent earned
between $59,390 and $113,590. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $44,050, and the highest 10 percent earned
more than $149,110. In March 2009, the average annual salary for economists employed by the federal government
was $108,010. Starting salaries were higher in selected geographical areas where the prevailing local pay was higher.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN ECONOMICS
Today, economists/economics graduates work in a range of varied fields. Here are some of the fields and some
of the positions that economics graduates hold in those fields:

WHAT AWAITS AN ECONOMICS MAJOR?
One of the attractive things about studying economics is that you will acquire many of the skills
employers highly value. First, you will have the quantitative skills that are important in many
business and government positions. Second, you will acquire the writing skills necessary in almost
all lines of work. Third, and perhaps most importantly, you will develop the thinking skills that
almost all employers agree are critical to success.
A study published in the 1998 edition of the Journal of Economic Education ranked economics
majors as having the highest average scores on the Law School Admission Test LSAT). Also,
consider the words of the Royal Economic Society:
"One of the things that makes economics graduates so employable is that the subject teaches you to
think in a careful and precise way. The fundamental economic issue is how society decides to allocate
its resources: how the costs and benefits of a course of action can be evaluated and compared, and
how appropriate choices can be made. A degree in economics gives training in decision making
principles, providing a skill applicable in a very wide range of careers."
Keep in mind, too, that economics is one of the most popular majors at some of the most respected
universities in the country. As of this writing, economics is the top major at Harvard, Princeton,
Columbia, Stanford, University of Pennsylvania, and University of Chicago. It is the second most
popular major at Brown, Yale, and the University of California at Berkeley. It is the third most
popular major at Cornell and Dartmouth Reference: (Arnold, Ronald E., Economics, Cengage Learning,
USA, 2014)

S.Y 2019 - 2020
The PSU ECOSOC is an association of bonafide students of the PSU-Lingayen Campus enrolled and taking
up BA Economics degree program, which was organized to foster growth and development among Econom-
ics students and cultivate their potentials through leadership and school based projects, programs and
activities where the ECOSOC is located.
PSU ECOSOC envisions to become a guardian and a mover of
societal advancement or economic development by provid-
ing fundamental trainings, knowledge and skills among the
members who'll become the project initiators and program
facilitators in the attainment of better understanding of Eco-
nomics among the community people and their fellow espe-
cially the youth.
PSU ECOSOC aims to promote a wide understanding on Economics
by fostering its application in the broadest manner, to unchain the
mind from a social, cultural, political, and intellectual bankruptcy and
decay; to encourage and foster the development of acquaintance as
an opportunity to serve the community; to embark on projects and
programs for growth and development of the members through
active participation and common undertakings which endeavour

The mission of Pangasinan State University Library is to provide information resources and services to faculty,
students, researchers and administrative staff in support of the University instructional and scholarly inquiry that will
promote liberal learning, education for services, training for careers and development of lifelong learning skills.

■ To develop and manage the collections that are relevant to the University’s curricular programs and responsive to the needs of

■ To provide access to information stored in books and periodicals including databases worldwide distributed in print and

L I B R A R Y R U L E S AND R E G U L A T I O N
■ The Library ID card serves as the pass in the use of the library and its resources. The NO LIBRARY ID, NO ENTRY is strictly
enforced.
■ The library ID card is presented upon entrance and every time a book or material is borrowed.
■ The library ID card is nontransferable. Library privilege should be exercised personally. Library ID’s should not be used by
anyone except the student whose picture and name appears on the card. The owner of the ID card is responsible for all
materials borrowed on it.
■ The Library ID card is good for four to five years, to be validated every semester/ term. Lost Library ID card must be reported
immediately to the Librarian. A replacement Library ID may be issued one week after the report of loss and upon payment of the
cost of the card.
■ Transferees and graduating students should surrender their library ID cards upon issuance of clearance by the Librarian.
L E N D I N G P O L I C I E S
■ No library resources of any kind may be taken from the library by any person unless a record of withdrawal is made thereof. Any
person drawing a book from the library or having it charged against him for use is held accountable for it until its return.
■ General references like dictionaries, encyclopedias, atlases, etc. are to be used inside the library only. However, photocopying of
such materials is allowed.
■ Reserved books and single-copy books are also to be used inside the library only. They are borrowed on an hourly basis and may
be photocopied.
■ Theses are for reading room use only Photocopying is not allowed. If the undergraduate collection is deemed inadequate for
research purposes, the graduate thesis/dissertation collection may be utilized.
■ Periodicals are used in the library only. They may be photocopied.
■ Books in the General Circulation may be borrowed for home/overnight use. As a general rule, a book for home use is loaned from
3:00 P.M. and should be returned on or before 9:00 A.M. the following class day.
■ Students may borrow one book for overnight use from Mondays thru Thursdays and two books of different titles on weekends.
■ Books may be renewed another day. However, the book must be presented physically before it can be borrowed again.
■ Interlibrary use of resources is practiced among the Libraries in the University. Visiting students should present, together with
their
■ University ID, a referral letter from the Librarian of their College of origin. These students are given room-use privilege only.

G.E 1 - Understanding the Self
The course deals with the nature of identity, as well as the factors and forces that affect
the development and maintenance of personal identity. This course is intended to facili-
tate the exploration of the issues and concerns regarding self and identity to arrive at a
better understanding of one's self. It strives to meet this goal by stressing the integration
of the personal with the academic contextualizing matters discussed in the classroom and
in the everyday experiences of students-making for better learning, generating a new
appreciation for the learning process, and developing a more critical and reflective attitude
while enabling them to manage and improve their selves to attain a better quality of life.
GE 2 - Readings in Philippine History
The course analyzes Philippine history from multiple perspectives through the lens of
selected primary sources coming from various disciplines and of different genres. Stu-
dents are given opportunities to analyze the author's background and main arguments,
compare different points of view, identify biases and examine the evidences presented in
the document The discussions will tackle traditional topics in history and other interdisci-
plinary themes that will deepen and broaden their understanding of Philippine political,
economic, cultural, social, scientific and religious history. Priority is given to primary
materials that could help students develop their analytical and communication skills. The
end goal is to develop the historical and critical consciousness of the students so that
they will become versatile and responsible citizens.
GE 3 - The Contemporary World
This course introduces students to the contemporary world by examining the multifaceted
phenomenon of globalization. Using the various disciplines of the social sciences, it
examines the economic, social, political, technological, and other transformations that
have created an increasing awareness of the interconnectedness of peoples and places
around the globe. To this end, the course provides an overview of the various debates in
global governance, development, and sustainability. Beyond exposing the student to the
world outside the Philippines, it seeks to inculcate a sense of global citizenship and global
ethical responsibility.
GE 4 - Mathematics in the Modern Word
This course deals with nature of mathematics, appreciation of its practical, intellectual,
and aesthetic dimensions, and application of mathematical tools in daily life. The course
begins with an introduction to the nature of mathematics as an exploration of patterns (in
nature and the environment) and as an application of inductive and deductive reasoning.
By exploring these topics, students are encouraged to go beyond the typical understand-
ing of mathematics as merely a set of formulas but as a source of aesthetics in patterns
of nature, for example, and a rich language in itself (and of science) governed by logic and
reasoning. The course then proceeds to survey ways in which mathematics provides a
tool for understanding and dealing with various aspects of present-day living.
COURSE DESCRIPTION - GE COURSES

GE 5 - Purposive Communication
This is a three-unit course that develops students' communicative competence and
enhances their cultural and intercultural awareness through multimodal tasks that pro-
vide them opportunities for communicating effectively and appropriately to a multicultural
audience in a local or global context. It equips students with tools for critical evaluation of
a variety of texts and focuses on the power of language and the impact of images to
emphasize the importance of conveying messages responsibly. The knowledge, skills, and
insights that students gain from this course may be used in their other academic endeav-
ors, their chosen disciplines, and their future careers as they compose and produce
relevant oral, written, audio-visual and/or web-based output for various purposes.
GE 6 - Arts Appreciation
This course develops students' ability to appreciate, analyze, and critique works of art.
Through interdisciplinary and multimodal approaches, this course equips students with a
broad knowledge of the practical, historical, philosophical, and social relevance of the arts
in order to hone students' ability to articulate their understanding of the arts. The course
also develops students' competency in researching and curating art as well as conceptu-
alizing, mounting, and evaluating art productions. The course aims to develop students'
genuine appreciation for Philippine arts by providing them opportunities to explore the
diversity and richness and their rootedness in Filipino culture.
GE 7- Science, Technology and Society
The course deals with interactions between science and technology and social, cultural,
political, and economic contexts that shape and are shaped by them. (CMO No. 20, series
of 2013). This interdisciplinary course engages students to confront the realities brought
about by science and technology in society. Such realities pervade the personal, the
public, and the global aspects of our living and are integral to human development.
Scientific knowledge and technological development happen in the context of society with
all its socio-political, cultural, economic, and philosophical underpinnings at play. This
course seeks to instill reflective knowledge in the students that they are able to live the
good life and display ethical decision making in the face of scientific and technological
advancement.
GE 8 - Ethics
This course deals with principles of ethical behavior in modern society at the level of the
person, society, and in interaction with the environment and other shared resources. (CMO
20 s 2013) Morality pertains to the standards of right and wrong that an individual
originally picks up from the community. The course discusses the context and principles
of ethical behavior in modern society at the level of individual, society, and in interaction
with the environment and other shared resources. The course also teaches students to
make moral decisions by using dominant moral frameworks and by applying a seven-step
moral reasoning model to analyze and solve moral dilemmas. The course is organized
according to the three (3) main elements of the moral experience: (a) agent, including
context- cultural, communal, and environmental; (b) the act; and (c) reason or framework
(for the act).

Filipino 1 - Kontekstwalisadong Komunikasyon sa Filipino
Ang KOMFIL ay isang praktikal na kursong nagpapalawak at nagpapalalim sa kontekst-
walisadong komunikasyon sa wikang Filipino ng mga mamamayang Pilipino sa kani-
kanilang mga komunidad sa partikular, at sa buong lipunang Pilipino sa pangkalahatan.
Nakatuon ang kursong ito sa makrokasanayang pakikinig at pagsasalita, gayundin sa
kasanayan sa paggamit ng iba’t ibang tradisyonal at mode rnong midya na makabuluhan
sa kontekstong Pilipino sa iba’t ibang antas at larangan.
Filipino 2 - Filipino sa Ibang Ibang Disiplina
Ang FILDIS ay isang praktikal na kursong nagpapalawak at nagpapalalim sa kasanayan
sa malalim at mapanuring pagbasa, pagsulat, at pananaliksik sa wikang Filipino sa iba’t
ibang larangan, sa konteksto ng kontemporaryong sitwasyon at mga pangangailangan ng
bansa at ng mga mamamayang Pilipino. Nakatuon ang kursong ito sa makrokasanayang
pagbasa at pagsulat, gamit ang mga makabuluhang pa nanaliksik sa wikang Filipino,
bilang lunsaran ng pagsasagawa ng pananaliksik (mula sa pangangalap ng datos at
pagsulat ng borador ng pananaliksik hanggang sa publikasyon at/o presentasyon nito) na
nakaugat sa mga suliranin at realidad ng mga komunidad ng mga mamamayan sa bansa
at maging sa komunidad ng mga Pilipino sa iba pang bansa. Saklaw rin ng kursong ito ang
paglinang sa kasanayang pagsasalita, partikular sa presentasyon ng pananaliksik sa iba’t
ibang porma at venue.
Filipino 3 - Dalumat sa Filipino
Ang DALUMATFIL ay isang maagwat na kursong nagpapalawak at nagpapalalim sa
kasanayan sa malalim at mapanuring pagbasa, pagsulat, at pananaliksik sa wikang
Filipino sa iba’t ibang larangan, sa konteksto ng kontemporaryong sitwasyon at mga
pangangailangan ng bansa at ng mga mamamayang Pilipino. Partikular na nakatuon ang
kursong ito sa makrokasanayang pagbasa at pagsulat, gamit ang mga makabuluhang
pananaliksik sa wikang Filipino, bilang lunsaran ng pagpapalawak at pagpapalalim sa
kasanayan, kakayahan at kamalayan ng mga estudyante na malikhain at mapanuring
makapagdalumat o “makapag-teorya” sa wikang Filipino, batay sa mga piling lokal at
dayuhang konsepto at teorya na akma sa konteksto ng komunidad at bansa.
Literature 1 - Society and Literature
This course deals with the various literary genres from various regions of the Philippines
from their beginnings to their development and maturity as showcased in the representa-
tive literary texts of Filipino writers in Spanish, Tagalog and English.
Literature 2 - Global Currents and World Literature
This course deals with the various literary masterpieces of the world written in prose and
poetry which depicts the thread that links the rich culture and tradition of each nation.
GE 9 - Rizal
As mandated by Republic Act 1425. this course covers the life and works of the country's
national hero, Jose Rizal, Among the topics covered are Rizal's biography and his writings,
particularly the novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, some of his essays, and
various correspondences.

Personality 101 - Advanced Personality and Professional Development
This course deals with total human development with emphasis on the physical, in-
tellectual (mental), and moral (spiritual) development. The discussion analysis and
journey towards self-discovery results to a strong, wholistic personality and the
ability to cope with day to day challenges and conflicts.
PE 1 - Movement Enhancement
Physical fitness tackles and covers every essential aspect concerning different
physicall activities. It helps nurture the students’ knowledge and skills in physical
development through participation in various exercises and related physical activi-
ties in order to attain the highest level of fitness, as the main goal of Physical
Education.
PE 2 - Fitness Exercises
This course deals with the mastery and correct execution of the basic dance steps
and rhythm that would facilitate the easy way and faster learning of more complex
rhythmic movements in all forms of dances.
PE 3 - Physical and Activity Towards Fitness and Health I
It deals with the study of different individual, dual sports and recreational games. It
further includes the history, equipment and materials rules and regulations, basic
officiating and coaching and offer recreational games. A mini-class tournament is
a part of the learning experiences of the students in this course.
PE 4 - Physical Activity Towards Fitness and Health II
This course deals with the acquisition of basic concepts and skills necessary in
performing team sports particularly volleyball and basketball. It includes the histo-
ry, general principles, equipment, basic skills, rules regulation and prevention, lead
up games and officiating. It also focuses on the development of desirable social
attitudes and more harmonious relationships with both teammates and opponents.
NSTP 1 - ROTC1/CSWTS1/LTS1
This course includes programs and activities contributory to the welfare and the
betterment of life for the members of the community or the enhancement of its
facilities especially those devoted to improving health, education, environment,
entrepreneurship, safety, recreation and morals of the citizenry.
NSTP 2 - RO TC2/CSWTS2/LTS2
This course is designed to demonstrate skills and knowledge acquired in CWTS-1
by implementing the projects in activities suited to the needs and problems of the
Community.
COURSE DESCRIPTION - PE AND NSTP

Econ 110 - Introductory Economics
This course covers basic economic theories and principles both Microeconomics
and Macroeconomics which are supported not only by theory but with the use of
charts, tables, and graphs for a more intellectual analysis on topics like price and
output determination and national income.
Math 101 - Algebra and Trigonometry
This course covers the real number system, algebraic expression, the one and two
dimensional coordinate systems, functions, equations and inequalities, word prob-
lems and variations. It also covers the study of points, lines, and planes including
angles that serve as a springboard for understanding solid geometry and analytic
geometry.
Math 102 - Calculus
The course covers differential calculus and integral calculus. The first part is differ-
ential calculus which deals with functions and graphing, limits of functions and
continuity of functions, derivatives and differentiation. The second part is integral
calculus in which the techniques, mathematical manipulations, and analysis includ-
ing the area and volumes defined by curves so are discussed.
Acctg 101 - Accounting
This is a three-unit course intended teach students the different principles em-
ployed in accounting. Basic accounting concepts are emphasized in order to help
the students in computing for accounts relevant in business and in GNP accounting.
Math 103 - Introduction to Mathematical Statistics
This course introduces students to the fundamental theories and methods of math-
ematical statistics, a requisite for empirical modelling in economics. It focuses on
the theory of probability, distribution theory, sampling theory, and inference.

Econ 111 - Microeconomics
The course deals with advanced economic analysis of price theory, consumer
behavior, output determination, distribution and other microeconomic theories with
emphasis on mathematical approach in the application of some of economic vari-
ables.

Econ 112 - Macroeconomics
The course provides a comprehensive understanding on how the economy works
and how different economic agents as a whole respond to changes in the econom-
ic environment by contemplating macroeconomic variables such as national in-
come, consumption and investment, inflation, unemployment, aggregate demand
and supply, monetary and fiscal policy, economic growth, poverty, income inequal-
ity and international trade.
Econ 113 - Economic Development
The course concerns with the concepts, theories, principles, problems and policies
of economic development of developed, developing and less-developed countries.
It examines a wide range of critical and relevant issues on economic growth,
poverty, inequality, population, urbanization, health, education, agriculture, environ-
ment, foreign trade and investment, foreign aid and fiscal policy.
Econ 114 - Mathematical Economics
The course applies mathematical methods such as algebra, differential and inte-
gral calculus, financial mathematics, matrices, and linear programming to repre-
sent economic theories and analyze economic problems modelled in economics.
It approaches mathematics as a way of demonstrating relationships and formaliz-
ing concepts in economic analysis that has relation with price, demand, supply,
cost, wage rate, investment, national income and consumption.
Econ 115A - Econometrics
The course concentrates on the application of statistical and mathematical meth-
od and techniques in the analysis of economic data. It covers a variety of topics
such as nature of regression analysis, simple and multiple linear regression, dum-
my variables, multicollinearity, heterocedasticity, autocorrelation and econometric
modelling and makes extensive use of econometric software packages as tools of
quantitative and statistical analysis.
Econ 115A - Econometrics Laboratory
This course is intended to complement with Econometrics course as it teaches
the use of statistical software packages like SPSS and Gretl to perform economet-
ric technique and analysis.
Econ 116 - Economic Research
This course provides an overview of research frontiers in economics and relates
them to real world events by dealing with various types of investigative techniques
currently employed in economics. The main objective is to construct a quality
research output related to the field of economics .

Econ 117 - Monetary Economics
This course is a theoretical and practical perspective of the monetary and credit
system and banks in the Philippine environment; central & commercial banking insti-
tutions’ behavior and policies; financial development and markets and the interaction
of these with the domestic & external sectors of the economy.
Econ 120 - International Economics
This course is concerned with the patterns and consequences of economic transac-
tions and interactions among the inhabitants of different countries with an emphasis
on international trade theories, trade and macroeconomic policies, balance of trade,
international finance and other essential international economic issues like multina-
tional enterprises, trade organizations, economic integration and globalization.
Econ 123 - Economic Practicum
The course is designed to expose students into the actual working environment, which
is essential for the application of knowledge and skills learned in the program. This
provides the students the opportunities to have a hands-on way to gain practical work
experience, explore career interests, and help them build professional networks, facili-
tate professional development.

Econ 118 - Industrial Economics
This course basically focuses on firms’ behavior by examining the internal structure of
firms in the imperfectly competitive markets. It analyzes various aspects of strategic
interaction between firms and the determinants of industrial structure. It also discuss-
es the role of policy in the context of competition and industrial policies and regulation.
Econ 119 - Agricultural Economics
This course is concerned with the application of economic theory in maximizing the pro-
duction and distribution of agricultural goods. It also deals with the economic decision
makings of agricultural producers and how firms manage agribusiness ventures.
Econ 121 - Labor Economics
This course concerns with the study of functioning and dynamics of the market for
labor. It is an economic analysis of how workers, firms and the government interact in
shaping the outcomes in the labor market including demand and supply of labor,
employment, wage structure and earnings, distribution of income, human capital, labor
market discrimination, labor unions, labor mobility, migration and unemployment

Econ 122 - Public Economics
This course will expose the students to the study and analysis of different economic
policies and practices and how these are formulated, tested, applied, monitored and
evaluated in pursuance of the attainment of national development in a rapidly
globalizing environment.
Econ 124 - Project Evaluation
This course aims to teach students on how to successfully plan, manage and
deliver project. Moreover, they will also learn how to implement project manage-
ment processes, develop leadership skills and have the ability to respond to the
real-world circumstances of complex challenges throughout the project cycle..
Econ 125 - Health Economics
This course is designed to provide comprehensive understanding of economics of
health and health care. It applies economic analysis to understand how healthcare
market works, determine the value of health, analyze demand, cost and production
for health care and deals with problems concerning the health care sector/industry
and health policy issues from an economic perspective.
Econ 126 - Economic History
This course deals with the economic theories, ideologies and concepts of thinkers
and economists who formulated them. It is a study of the major figures and trends
in the history of economic ideas, how these ideas were formulated, utilized and
transmitted, the character and scope of economic ideas in their relationship to other
areas of human experience and study.
Econ 127 - Resource and Environmental Economics
This course deals with natural resources and environmental issues from an eco-
nomics’ perspective. The course covers concepts like cost benefit analysis and
economic valuation and energy economics, including oil, natural gas, and electricity
markets and explores issues of policy design from an efficiency perspective includ-
ing renewable's policy, transportation policies, and climate change policies. It also
examines environmental issues related to trade, development, public finance, and
competitive strategy.
