This document discusses chronic pain from a health psychology perspective. It notes that approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK live with chronic pain, which is more than just a sensation and profoundly impacts physical, emotional, and social well-being. The biopsychosocial model is the prominent theoretical framework for understanding chronic pain. Chronic pain can have physiological causes from injuries or illness, and psychological impacts like increased stress, anxiety, and depression. It also has social consequences like strained relationships and isolation.
