This document summarizes research on traditional food behavior and food security in rural First Nation communities in Northern Ontario. The research examined the relationships between traditional food behavior, food knowledge, food values, perceived food security, cultural connection, and well-being. It also explored the effects of perceived land contamination on these variables. The findings suggest policies are needed in natural resource management, agriculture, and other areas to support the development of a regional food system that incorporates forest, cultivated, and store-bought foods in order to strengthen these communities.
