Students are instructed to prepare an oral presentation on a pharmacy-related issue with a partner. They will deliver the presentation in week 11 and rehearse in week 10. The presentation should include a summary of key points, a discussion of those points, and references. Each student must use at least one visual aid. Students are also asked to describe their experience giving presentations to their partner. They will listen to sample presentations and provide assessments using the guidelines. Taking care of people with Down syndrome

The topic
Down syndrome has been researched over the years by different writers, however, there are still so many unanswered questions regarding the same. Down syndrome is a genetic disease that some people are born with. The disease is also known as trisomy 21 and occurs randomly during the formation of reproductive cells. This means that it can either be caused by the egg cell or the sperm cell (Lott, 2012). This results in a condition that leads to intellectual disability, weak muscles or a characteristic facial appearance. The fact that the disease occurs randomly underlines the fact that it can affect anyone. It is due to that reason that most countries worldwide have dedicated their researchers to try and know more about how it can be prevented so as to reduce the number of people having that type of disability.
The controversy
Over the years there have been some common misconceptions on how down syndrome manifests itself, this has led to misconceptions on either the parents of the infected child or the child himself. This has made people suffering from down syndrome to be victimized and even despised basing on their physical features (Lott,2012). This meant that the people living with the syndrome would be isolated. This just showed how people with this disability were not given the care they needed, some families even took their children with the syndrome to inhumane institutions where people with the syndrome were to live (Epstein, 2013). Whereas the king hearted families would go beyond their means to take care of the infected.
Pro side of the controversy
Whereas their developmental rate is so slow, there have been a number of institutions that have helped families know how to take care of their loved ones who have the syndrome. Some of the institutions have been seen to help the infected people since they are placed together where they can be easily taken care of by specialists.
Con side of the controversy
Despite the fact that the infected people are being handled by trained people, the fact that they are segregated means that they are not being given equal opportunity to enjoy the pleasures of the world as well as being with their loved ones. Therefore as much as these individuals require constant support from the specialized people, with them being isolated, they develop a negative perspective whereby they feel they are not wanted in the society which is contrary to what we all stand for.
Tentative Thesis statement
Individuals with Down syndrome should be afforded equal treatment as any other individual.

Students are instructed to prepare an oral presentation on a pharmacy-related issue with a partner. They will deliver the presentation in week 11 and rehearse in week 10. The presentation should include a summary of key points, a discussion of those points, and references. Each student must use at least one visual aid. Students are also asked to describe their experience giving presentations to their partner. They will listen to sample presentations and provide assessments using the guidelines. The topic
Down syndrome has been researched over the years by different writers, however, there are still so many unanswered questions regarding the same. Down syndrome is a genetic disease that some people are born with. The disease is also known as trisomy 21 and occurs randomly during the formation of reproductive cells. This means that it can either be caused by the egg cell or the sperm cell (Lott, 2012). This results in a condition that leads to intellectual disability, weak muscles or a characteristic facial appearance. The fact that the disease occurs randomly underlines the fact that it can affect anyone. It is due to that reason that most countries worldwide have dedicated their researchers to try and know more about how it can be prevented so as to reduce the number of people having that type of disability.
The controversy
Over the years there have been some common misconceptions on how down syndrome manifests itself, this has led to misconceptions on either the parents of the infected child or the child himself. This has made people suffering from down syndrome to be victimized and even despised basing on their physical features (Lott,2012). This meant that the people living with the syndrome would be isolated. This just showed how people with this disability were not given the care they needed, some families even took their children with the syndrome to inhumane institutions where people with the syndrome were to live (Epstein, 2013). Whereas the king hearted families would go beyond their means to take care of the infected.
Pro side of the controversy
Whereas their developmental rate is so slow, there have been a number of institutions that have helped families know how to take care of their loved ones who have the syndrome. Some of the institutions have been seen to help the infected people since they are placed together where they can be easily taken care of by specialists.
Con side of the controversy
Despite the fact that the infected people are being handled by trained people, the fact that they are segregated means that they are not being given equal opportunity to enjoy the pleasures of the world as well as being with their loved ones. Therefore as much as these individuals require constant support from the specialized people, with them being isolated, they develop a negative perspective whereby they feel they are not wanted in the society which is contrary to what we all stand for.

Individuals with Down syndrome should be afforded equal treatment as any other individual.

Assignment overview
You will complete a three-page literature review in which you discuss four of the most relevant
sources in your research. You will complete an MLA-formatted works cited page.
Assignment Preparation and Process
A literature review lets the reader know that you have done your research—that you have looked
carefully at the experts in the field and their varying opinions on your topic. You may have had
experience in past English classes with the annotated bibliography, an assignment where you
evaluate and summarize the main points of your source—each source listed as a separate entry—
and discuss how the author’s claim might further your own thesis. The literature review is
similar in some ways: you will summarize the prominent “conversations” about your research
topic and analyze how these ideas inform your argument, but it differs in sophistication. The key
here is to look for connections between your sources and write about them in conjunction with
one another. Think about the salient points of the authors. How are the authors’ points similar to
one another? On what do they differ?
Tips to remember:
a. A lit review requires a synthesis of different subtopics to come to a greater
understanding of a larger issue. Like a jigsaw puzzle, the pieces (main points of the
argument) must be put together to reveal the whole.
b. Use the knowledge you have gained from class to summarize, paraphrase, and directly
quote where appropriate. Use attributive tags to introduce your sources and indicate
all summarized, paraphrased, and quoted material.
c. Keep your own voice out of the literature review. In most genres of writing, your voice
should come across to the reader. The literature review, however, is about the
opinions of others—not your opinion. Your opinion should come through loud and
clear in the next draft of the PRE assignment.
1. To get started, first choose four of the most relevant sources in your research thus far. As you
are researching, look into the bibliographies of the articles you have found. Who seems to be a
prominent author/researcher associated with your topic? To whom do other authors and
researchers often refer to in their own studies? What sources were particularly helpful to further
your working thesis? What sources might be in disagreement with your working thesis?
2. Introduction: Include your working thesis statement. Remember, this is a working thesis and
may change as you continue your research.
3. Establish main points. For instance, if you’re researching the effectiveness of viral videos, you
could have three main points: 1. Viral videos are effective when the ad is not the focus of the
video, 2. When the video becomes viral naturally, and 3. When the ad embedded in the video
relates to the target audience (Kyle Harris, Voices in Print 2013, page 232).

Choose a topic that you are interested in and that your audience might be interested in.
Format
This outline should be at least 3 pages in length and use 12-point font.
Use appropriate coordination and subordination. Use full sentences, including subjects and verbs for the main ideas or main points and the 1st order of subordinate ideas or sub-points. Consistently use either full-sentence or list form for 2nd -order sub-points supporting the same 1st order sub-point. Usually use list form for 3rd order, 4th order, and 5th order sub-points.
Enhance the readability of the outline. Use only one idea per point, only one sentence per point, single-space each point, and double-space vertically between points. Leave a line of white space between each point at every level.
Transitions between major sections and the main points should be provided in the outline (enclosed in parentheses). Use transitions to move the audience’s attention from one section to another or from one main point to another.
Use a consistent pattern of indentation. Type main points flush with the left margin. Indent 5 spaces for 1st-order sub-points, 10 spaces for 2nd-order sub-points, 15 spaces for 3rd-order sub-points, 20 spaces for 4th-order sub-points.
Use the following system to label the points in the body:
Main Points: upper case Roman numerals [I, II, III, IV, V]

The thesis sentence (addressed to the audience, not the instructor) summarizes everything the speaker intends to say during the speech. Place the label for the thesis sentence flush with the left margin.

should gain attention, orient the audience by stating the topic, offer a reason for listening, and preview the body of the speech. The introduction (which may be outlined or written word-for-word) is designed to
gain the attention of the audience;
establish the speaker's credibility; and

Do not say “I will tell the story of ____,” or “I will do X, Y, or Z.” Actually outline or write the story here in the Introduction, such as “Have you ever found yourself repeating mistakes you have made before?” Actually outline or write the question here.

What is an annotated bibliography?
An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, articles, web pages, and other
documents. The reference citation is listed first and is followed by a brief description. The
annotation informs the reader of the relevance and quality of the sources cited.
What is the purpose of the annotated bibliography?
In certain classes, you will be asked to write an annotated bibliography, which sounds quite
intimidating, but is simply a brief summary of something you have read or consulted during the
course of your research on a given subject. The annotated bibliography has a structured format,
and the purpose for this is to provide the organizational tool you need to keep track of your
research and references. The bibliography may serve a number of purposes: illustrate the quality
of research, provide examples, review literature on a particular subject, or provide further
exploration of the subject.
Provided below is a sample annotated bibliography. Doctoral students should follow the
sample annotated bibliography provided in courses. This sample annotated bibliography may
differ in appearance from formatting required in the School of Advanced Studies.
