1. INTRODUCTION
1.1Background of report
As part of the academic requirement for graduating from the University of Professional Studies,
Accra, students of the university are obliged to undergo a two month intensive internship
program (minimum) to enable them acquaint themselves with the realities and challenges of
their area of studies.
It is in line with this that the student had the opportunity to do his internship with Sametro Co.
Ltd – Sametro Links Main Branch. The internship started from the 1st of June to the 3rd of
August.
The internship program forms two credit hours of the undergraduate programs. I was posted to
work with the Sales and account department. At the Sales issuing of invoices to customers, and

credit notes to the various branches and entering the data into the respective debit and credit
enteries in the accounting software for the preparation of the daily Stock Reconciliation account.
At the account, I aided in the checking of bank statements to obtain the payment by sub - dealers
upon selling the product and the expenses paid upon the daily operations of the business. Record
the data into their various enteries in the accounting software to be analysed by the accountant.
1.2Terms Of Reference
As stipulated in the student Handbook 2012/2013, every student is required to undertake at least
a two month intensive internship program in his or her area of study.
The report is therefore an account of an internship training I had with Sametro Co. Ltd (Sametro
Links) Main Branch from the 1st of June to the 31st of July, 2012.
1.3 Purpose Of Attachment
The core objective of the internship program was to enable the student to appreciate the
practicality of what he/she has been taught and learned in this institution. Thus, it was to give the
student the exposure to the working environment and also to enable him acquire practical
knowledge in his area of study and expertise.
Secondly, most small and medium scale business suffer from the lack of technical knowhow
especially in the field of Accounting, Costing, Communication skills and Marketing. In such a
situation, the internship program then serves as a platform for the student to use his technical,
innovative and creative ideas to aid solve such organizational problems.
4 | P a g e
Again, since the business environment is made up of people from different social, cultural and
political environment, the internship program was to serve as the platform for the student to have
a feel of how to relate with the various groups of individuals they will come into contact with in
his future employment and to combine the different behaviours of people.

2.3 Application Of Theories To Real Life Situation
With the knowledge acquired during my first year in UPSA, as Business Administration
Student, Subjects such as business communication, organizational behavior, business
management, computer skills and communication skills helped enable me go about duties that
were assigned to me during the internship more effectively and efficiently.
Time keeping and punctuality is one of the main components of any growing and responsible
organization, and the Sametro Co. ltd is one of the organizations in the Ghana. I responded to my
duties on time and was punctual at work place, which I have applied to my real life situation.
Moreover, theories such as listening skills, good communication skills, good customer
relationship and report writing etc. assisted me to respond professionally to other relative tasks
assignments and most importantly, customers. All this theories have helped me in my real life
situations, thus in the house and lecture hall.
3. LESSON LEARNT:
The main idea of the internship program, and which I strongly believe it is to enable students to
learn and make discoveries about their area of studies and apply their academic knowledge on
the field of work. The two months internship with the Sametro Co. Ltd gave me the opportunity
to develop my writing skills and also develop good customer relationship.
I quickly adopted myself to the working environment and learnt so fast on the job, to the extent
that little or no supervision was sometimes needed, thus I learnt to be self dependent, that helped
to achieve the required goals been expected from me.
I also learn the following, while with Sametro Co. Ltd (Sametro Links – Main Office)
11 | P a g e
Team work – I also learned that, team work is the root of all success during the internship.
Workers work hand in hand with each other, which helped the company achieve its goal for
every month. This is well represented in their slogan.
Punctuality – unlike most tertiary institutions in Ghana, where some students absent themselves
from lectures, with the working environment, everyone is punctual and very fast on their duties,
any worker who absent him or herself without any tangible reasons are quarried and sanctioned.
4. CHALLENGES:
As a student been introduced to an organization for my internship, I was faced with a number of
challenges since I was new in the institution and did not actually know anyone there.
The Job was sometimes so demanding that I had to leave home very early to finish a previous
day’s assignment.
It was also challenging at the initial stages to adapt myself to the working environment and the
workers in the firm, considering the fact that all these people from different background, with
different ideologies, ethics and views. Another challenge was from the mobilization team. There
was no car for this project so we had to walk through the sun to make those deposits which was
so tiring.
5. CONCLUSSION
To conclude the report writing, my internship was a successful and a fruitful one. It exposed me
to a lot of high profile personalities. I was also able to learn a lot from the staff I worked with,
12 | P a g e
and met most of my objectives for doing the internship. In achieving this success, it demanded a
lot of effort from me and tremendous contribution and guidance from the Sametro Company
Limited.
In sum, the internship has helped sharpened my writing skills, communication skills and other
analytical abilities which are required in my professional career, I therefore urge all students to
take the internship program very serious, because it will open a lot of job opportunities for us all.
6. RECOMMENDATION:
To the management of Sametro Company Limited:
I will recommend to the management of Sametro Company Limited motivate workers to speed
up with the activities of the company, and also the management of the company should employ
innovative strategies to ensure that their customers get the best services they can get to achieve
the company’s objectives.
To the Industrial Relation Department of UPSA:
I will also suggest that the internship program becomes compulsory to all student of the institute,
regardless of the level of the student, with this, I think will prepare the student to be ready for the
job market after graduating from school.

  • 10. 10 | P a g e 2.3 Application Of Theories To Real Life Situation With the knowledge acquired during my first year in UPSA, as Business Administration Student, Subjects such as business communication, organizational behavior, business management, computer skills and communication skills helped enable me go about duties that were assigned to me during the internship more effectively and efficiently. Time keeping and punctuality is one of the main components of any growing and responsible organization, and the Sametro Co. ltd is one of the organizations in the Ghana. I responded to my duties on time and was punctual at work place, which I have applied to my real life situation. Moreover, theories such as listening skills, good communication skills, good customer relationship and report writing etc. assisted me to respond professionally to other relative tasks assignments and most importantly, customers. All this theories have helped me in my real life situations, thus in the house and lecture hall. 3. LESSON LEARNT: The main idea of the internship program, and which I strongly believe it is to enable students to learn and make discoveries about their area of studies and apply their academic knowledge on the field of work. The two months internship with the Sametro Co. Ltd gave me the opportunity to develop my writing skills and also develop good customer relationship. I quickly adopted myself to the working environment and learnt so fast on the job, to the extent that little or no supervision was sometimes needed, thus I learnt to be self dependent, that helped to achieve the required goals been expected from me. I also learn the following, while with Sametro Co. Ltd (Sametro Links – Main Office)
  • 11. 11 | P a g e Team work – I also learned that, team work is the root of all success during the internship. Workers work hand in hand with each other, which helped the company achieve its goal for every month. This is well represented in their slogan. Punctuality – unlike most tertiary institutions in Ghana, where some students absent themselves from lectures, with the working environment, everyone is punctual and very fast on their duties, any worker who absent him or herself without any tangible reasons are quarried and sanctioned. 4. CHALLENGES: As a student been introduced to an organization for my internship, I was faced with a number of challenges since I was new in the institution and did not actually know anyone there. The Job was sometimes so demanding that I had to leave home very early to finish a previous day’s assignment. It was also challenging at the initial stages to adapt myself to the working environment and the workers in the firm, considering the fact that all these people from different background, with different ideologies, ethics and views. Another challenge was from the mobilization team. There was no car for this project so we had to walk through the sun to make those deposits which was so tiring. 5. CONCLUSSION To conclude the report writing, my internship was a successful and a fruitful one. It exposed me to a lot of high profile personalities. I was also able to learn a lot from the staff I worked with,
  • 12. 12 | P a g e and met most of my objectives for doing the internship. In achieving this success, it demanded a lot of effort from me and tremendous contribution and guidance from the Sametro Company Limited. In sum, the internship has helped sharpened my writing skills, communication skills and other analytical abilities which are required in my professional career, I therefore urge all students to take the internship program very serious, because it will open a lot of job opportunities for us all. 6. RECOMMENDATION: To the management of Sametro Company Limited: I will recommend to the management of Sametro Company Limited motivate workers to speed up with the activities of the company, and also the management of the company should employ innovative strategies to ensure that their customers get the best services they can get to achieve the company’s objectives. To the Industrial Relation Department of UPSA: I will also suggest that the internship program becomes compulsory to all student of the institute, regardless of the level of the student, with this, I think will prepare the student to be ready for the job market after graduating from school.
