The interim survey findings from Op2i show that over 50% of respondents believe the current economic downturn has increased interest in outsourcing. However, many companies are delaying decisions and interest is mixed. Over 80% believe outsourcing has positive impacts on domestic businesses by helping productivity, efficiency and costs. Respondents also feel outsourcing benefits the domestic economy by providing access to new skills and labor while allowing countries to compete globally. However, data protection and intellectual property theft remain concerns for over 50% of those surveyed regarding offshoring.

Who would have thought that the Prime Minister and inventor of the internet would be interested in that spreadsheet on your computer? More than just a hot topic, recent legislative and government initiatives such as data.gov.uk and INSPIRE have made it a reality for organisations to exchange data in an open manner. But do you know what it really means, how it affects you and what you can do to easily unlock and exploit the benefits?
There’s so much data out there, stored in various ways: enterprise databases, spreadsheets, word documents, pdfs, access databases or even floating around in a text file on some obscure corporate network – it’s all data. With all this inconsistency, data can’t even be found let alone be used to the benefit of the taxpayer. Sharing data between organisations is a major challenge. And the challenge doesn’t stop at the inter-organisational level.
The benefits of true Open Data are great; Eliminating the barriers and pain of data sharing and publication means a more informed general public; Access without restriction and a standard methodology that removes the technological challenges of sharing and re-using the data. Geospatial data has to be part of Open Data because everything happens at a place, whether that be a house, post code, county or country. We often see Geospatial data as special, but the reality is it’s just data and should be Open Data where it can be linked with other information such as Finance or Logistics to provide the complete picture.
This document discusses noun companions in Hebrew. It explains that a noun companion is a proclitic, meaning it connects to the following word to form a unit. It then provides examples of noun companions connecting to nouns with prefixes like "from" or "of". Finally, it directs the reader to charts on pages 50 and 53 that contain more examples of noun companions with suffixes.
Apps are bad
This document summarizes Ronan Skehill's presentation on apps. It begins with smartphone statistics showing rapid growth. It then discusses the many app stores and platforms. A decision matrix compares native apps to web apps on various factors like user experience, monetization, and technical capabilities. While web apps are cheaper and easier to build, native apps generally provide a better user experience and ability to utilize device features. The conclusion is that this presentation provided smartphone statistics, discussed app distribution options, and presented a guide to decide whether an app should be native or web-based.
The document describes a study that tested the ability of the antioxidant resveratrol to protect against noise-induced hearing loss in rats. Ten rats were given either resveratrol or a control treatment for 3 weeks before being exposed to loud noise. The results showed that the rats treated with resveratrol had significantly smaller increases in hearing thresholds after noise exposure compared to the control rats, indicating a protective effect of resveratrol against noise-induced hearing damage.

The document summarizes the results of the Op2i outsourcing survey from 2010. It finds that during the recession, organizations focused more on cost reduction from outsourcing rather than broader benefits. It also notes that clients put pressure on suppliers for lower costs while suppliers had to balance shorter-term savings with longer-term contracts. Looking ahead, the recovery was expected to drive more outsourcing as organizations sought cost savings, but public opinion and a focus on costs may challenge deals.
The document is a survey report on outsourcing trends in 2008 from Op2i, a business improvement firm specializing in outsourcing. It finds that convergence across industries is a major new driving force, with skills, knowledge, and resources available globally. Outsourcing and offshoring can help businesses adapt by becoming more flexible, dynamic, and globalized. However, the economic downturn may lead some countries to adopt protectionist policies that curb offshoring and prioritize local jobs over efficiency. The survey highlights the need for companies to focus on core competencies, smarter contracts, managing partner relationships, and leveraging outsourcing for transformation rather than just cost savings.
The document discusses practical considerations around outsourcing, including what processes are suitable for outsourcing and why companies outsource. It addresses questions like what to outsource, where to outsource to, potential benefits and risks. Key topics covered include assessing which processes provide the most value to outsource based on a company's core competencies, and selecting outsourcing partners and locations to maximize rewards while mitigating risks.
The document discusses the key findings of the 2010 Lead Generation Optimization study conducted by CSO Insights. Over 635 firms participated in the study, focusing on their lead generation objectives, investments, and processes for 2010. The top three strategic marketing objectives for 2010 were increasing customer acquisition, increasing brand awareness, and optimizing cross-selling and up-selling.
The document discusses developing a global mindset for entrepreneurs, including examining how cultural factors can influence entrepreneurship and strategies for entering foreign markets. It provides an overview of different market entry strategies and how to evaluate them using the OLI framework of assessing ownership advantages, location advantages, and internalization advantages. Entrepreneurs are advised to carefully consider these factors and their own capabilities before pursuing foreign direct investment.

This document discusses exit strategies for startup and growth companies. It defines an exit as the process by which founders, management, and investors find public or corporate buyers for some or all of a company's shares. The most popular exit strategies are mergers, acquisitions, initial public offerings (IPOs), and private placements. While mergers and acquisitions are more common than IPOs, entrepreneurs that insist on an IPO greatly reduce their exit opportunities. The document then provides details on preparing for and comparing IPOs versus mergers and acquisitions. It also discusses strategic factors to consider for exiting and remaining independent, as well as requirements for going public such as financial controls, qualified boards and management.

2. Context
• Op2i launched in October 2008, a survey to understand the state of the
outsourcing market, given the current economic downturn and perceived view
that there was a fundamental shift from Outsourcing 1.0 to Outsourcing 2.0.
– The survey has gathered information from outsourcing users, suppliers and
experienced advisors, via an online survey.
– This analysis is based on respondents from across the globe, including the UK,
USA, Europe, India, Australia, Philippines and the Middle East, as of Friday 7th
November 2008.
• Op2i will be releasing survey findings, in addition to interviews with key industry
leaders through a report which it will be launched at the International
Outsourcing Forum, in Barcelona in March 09.
• The following slides represent only an interim snapshot view, and only
represents a fraction of the information collected.
• We encourage all those involved in the outsourcing industry to take part in the
survey to provide us, and the industry a robust view of where the outsourcing
industry is headed!

Given the current focus on cost reduction for many companies, this may appear to be a somewhat surprising finding.
However, based on our experience, many companies who would be potential outsourcing candidates are delaying their
decision making process and therefore interest in outsourcing is on hold.
There is also a dependence on the type of outsourcing being considered – any deal that would require upfront
investment will clearly find it more difficult than a proposition which reduces costs, without significant capital
investment.

Most believe the key benefit that outsourcing / offshoring brings is with respect to productivity and efficiency, whilst
cost savings is close behind.
This would suggest the industry has now matured to a stage where the proposition is not simply one of cost cutting, but
about additional value add.

However, what is surprising, is that only around 5% believe a well constructed reintegration plan of processes at the
conclusion of the agreement as being important. This would seem to suggest most organisations that outsource, don’t
expect to bring those processes or functions back in-house, rather, that at the conclusion of the first agreement, either
they will renew the agreement, or transition to another supplier – or perhaps many just don’t realise how important
reintegration is…

Clearly India, Philippines and China all offer quite different value propositions and in many ways compete for different aspects within the
outsourcing sphere:
- India for specialist skills (e.g. ITO and KPO)
- Philippines for customer facing language skill sets (e.g. Customer centric BPO)
- China for general back office, lower skilled BPO and those not needing significant English language interaction
