This document discusses old and new approaches to communicating on the web. The old approach involved building static websites, while the new approach leverages frameworks that facilitate communication, sharing, and collaboration through technologies like Web 2.0, RSS, blogs, wikis, YouTube, Twitter, social bookmarking, and SlideShare. It provides examples of how these new technologies can be used for outreach by Cooperative Extension programs.

3. NEW SCHOOL Web 2.0 A second generation of web development and design, that facilitates communication, secure information sharing, interoperability, and collaboration. NOT building web sites. Instead, leveraging web-based frameworks with built-in capacity to allow communication/collaboration/sharing.

4. RSS RSS - Really Simple Syndication Standard format for sharing content RSS related terminology RSS Feed – The information that is provided in the RSS format is known as a feed. RSS Reader – An application or program that is capable of reading (consuming) and displaying an RSS feed. RSS Aggregator – An application or program that is capable of consuming many feeds and displaying the content to the user
