A short film is proposed about a missing girl. The film would show the mother experiencing flashbacks of her missing daughter who is still present in her mind. There are two possible endings - in one, the mother is watching TV when a news report shows a photo of her missing daughter; in the other, the mother goes to bed and sees photos of her daughter who has been missing for years. The film aims to explore the dramatic fallout of a woman holding onto the past through a false existence of her missing child after a repressed memory is triggered.

“MISSING”

2. POSSIBLE OPENING: First of all there will be a news report, explaining how there is a girl that
has gone missing. The news report will cut to a black screen.
2: A kitchen scene will fade in, there will be low key lighting/ the it will cut in to the click of a kettle
turning on. There will be different styles of shots varying from close ups, to extreme close ups, to
establishing shots. These will show the setting and also show the emotions.
3: Dad will storm out, close up to Mum sighing. She will do the washing up, see the child playing
in the garden.
4: The mother will experience numerous ‘flashbacks’ of the child in different scenarios, such as in
the garden, at the school gates.
ENDING 1:
Mum is watching TV, cooker timer goes, she goes into the kitchen and shouts the child, goes into
the kitchen, plates up, news report in the background, photo of the child comes up.
ENDING 2:
Mum tucks the child in, says good night, goes to bedroom, camera passes by photos of the child
and news paper cuttings saying the child was missing years ago.
STORYLINE

3. 1. Uninvited: Our short film has a similar concept to the film The
Uninvited. In the uninvited a girl imagines that she is spending
time with her sister, when really her sister is dead.
2. Sixth sense: We see mortals visually seeing immortals which is a
concept that may run in our short film
3. The Others: We see yet again the dead being witnessed by
humans.
4. The Lovely Bones: Girl gets murdered and then re-appears as a
ghost, although she is not seen regularly, she can see the
mortals, has contact with them and in one occasion she is seen.

7. Relationship: Between the mother, husband and child
Theme: Dramatic fall-out, Woman holds onto past and therefore
creates a false existence of the child. Repressed memory of dramatic
event triggers this behavior.
Time: The news report at the end of the film reveals element of time
by showing the audience that the girl has not been present the whole
time and that the mother had been imagining it
