Ghanewadi is an important reservoir located 8 km north of Jalna City that supplies drinking water to the city. (1) Constructed in the 1930s, it had a storage capacity of 1.44 billion liters but due to lack of maintenance, its capacity was reduced by 65%. (2) In 2010, a non-profit group called Ghanewadi Jal-Sanrakshan Munch initiated desilting work to increase the reservoir's capacity. (3) Through 5 years of work removing over 2.19 million tractor-loads of silt, the group has reclaimed over 657 million liters of storage capacity in the reservoir, enough to supply 100 liters
