Foreman is an open source project that helps managing servers throughout their lifecycle, from provisioning physical or virtual servers and configuration to orchestration and monitoring. Managing multiple instances running on multiple cloud providers can be tedious. Hence, Foreman makes life of SysAdmins easier as they can manage instances from different providers just through Foreman. This talk would typically focus on how Foreman can provision instances on Microsoft Azure cloud.

The main thread is where everything gets executed including layout and scripting. Thus, running compositing in the main thread severely limits responsiveness and rendering speed. By having a separate thread for compositing, we can bring a significant performance improvement in scrolling, zooming, and rendering, especially CSS3 animations.
Currently, several ports have already implemented offthemain thread compositing. Coordinated Graphics System, which is used by Qt and EFL, runs accelerated compositing in the UI Process. Compositor Thread used by Google Chrome runs the compositing thread off the main render thread in the Renderer Process.
Our Threaded Compositor is another accelerated compositing implementation, which is a threaded variant of Coordinated Graphics System. We are currently contributing Threaded Compositor to WebKit GTK+. Threaded Compositor makes WebKit GTK+ render CSS3 animations faster. Threaded Compositor brings a few benefits compared to the current Coordinated Graphics System. Firstly, by performing accelerated compositing in the Web Process, the UI process is isolated from the crashes caused by GPU driver bugs. Secondly, by not performing accelerated compositing in the main thread of the UI process, the UI process becomes more responsive to UI events.
In this talk, we will cover how we brought this feature to WebKit GTK+, and its current status. Additionally, optimized features for embedded systems such as memory management will be discussed.

The September 2015 JAMF Meet-Up agenda included introductions, a presentation on painless OS upgrades, and an open session. The presentation on painless OS upgrades discussed using tools like Composer, Disk Utility, and the App Store to capture OS images for new installs. It also covered using the App Store, AutoDMG, and Casper Imaging to deploy OS upgrades via caching installers and creating self service policies. NetBoot imaging was also discussed as a method for OS deployment.
Creating a third-person zombie horde shooter using DOTS – Unite Copenhagen
Far North Entertainment is working on a third-person zombie horde shooter using the Data-Oriented Technology Stack (DOTS), which has brought great performance improvements and influenced the development team's mindset to be more data-oriented in general. At Unite Copenhagen, this beginner- to intermediate-level session explained why DOTS is able to process data much faster by examining two specific implementations within the game. The talk also gave an example of how DOTS can be implemented as part of an otherwise traditional Unity application.

[Jfokus] Riding the Jet Streams
Java 8 introduced the Stream API as a modern, functional, and very powerful tool for processing collections of data. One of the main benefits of the Stream API is that it hides the details of iteration over the underlying data set, allowing for parallel processing within a single JVM, using a fork/join framework. I will talk about a Stream API implementation that enables parallel processing across many machines and many JVMs. With an explanation of internals of the implementation, I will give an introduction to the general design behind stream processing using DAG (directed acyclic graph) engines and how an actor-based implementation can provide in-memory performance while still leveraging industry-wide known frameworks as Java Streams API.

We also had a record number of registrations and attendees for a CloudStack User Group Event. The physical distance was not a stopper for our speakers, who joined the event from 6 different countries.

The virtues of continuous delivery are widely understood and accepted by organisations which value fast feedback cycles, reduced risk through incremental delivery of smaller changes and the ability to respond quickly to external factors. Furthermore if microservices are part of your architecture, then the ability to rapidly deploy multiple components of a system become increasingly important.
The foundations of scripting, automation and more recently containers made *nix-based systems the first target for automated deployments and subsequently continuous delivery. With the advent of some new tooling and a bit of courage these principles can now be applied to more heterogeneous environments including those from Redmond.
Using their backgrounds in automating large-scale ruby and java-based deployments, Warner and Matt embarked on a journey with SEEK to increase their agility by enabling continuous delivery – typically multiple times per day. This is their story.
OpenStack Glance
Glance is OpenStack's image service that stores and retrieves virtual machine (VM) images and their metadata. Glance consists of several components - the glance-api service that handles image API requests, the glance-registry service that stores and processes image metadata, and an image store like OpenStack Object Storage where the actual image files are stored. Glance supports various image formats like QCOW2, VHD, VMDK etc. that can be used by different hypervisors. Images in Glance can be public, private or shared between specific tenants using image members.

SQL has attained widespread adoption, but Business Intelligence tools still use their own higher level languages based upon a multidimensional paradigm. Composable calculations are what is missing from SQL, and we propose a new kind of column, called a measure, that attaches a calculation to a table. Like regular tables, tables with measures are composable and closed when used in queries.
SQL-with-measures has the power, conciseness and reusability of multidimensional languages but retains SQL semantics. Measure invocations can be expanded in place to simple, clear SQL.
To define the evaluation semantics for measures, we introduce context-sensitive expressions (a way to evaluate multidimensional expressions that is consistent with existing SQL semantics), a concept called evaluation context, and several operations for setting and modifying the evaluation context.
