OPENING SEQUENCE
ANALYSIS 4
HTTP://WWW.ARTOFTHETITLE.COM/TITLE/SMOKIN-ACES/
Smokin’ Aces opening sequence uses rap music. The audience could
infer the film is about gangsters because rap music connotes this. There
is a two shot of a character standing over another character. The
character who is standing is wearing a tie, shirt, trench coat and a hat.
This suggests he is rich and has a high statues over some other
characters. There is a close up of a man holding a playing card up. This
implies to the audience that he Is a gambling and likes taking risks, this
could foreshadow an event in the future. There’s another close up of a
man smoking a cigarette, this suggests he could be stressed. Next,
Blood starts to drip down the screen. This shows the audience there will
be violence and it also implies that its an action film. A character has an
eye patch on, the audience can infer that he lost his eye from gang
fights. Most characters shown have guns, again this tells the audience
their will be a high level of action. There is a two shot of a man pointing
a gun at another mans head. In the background of this shot there is a
sign that says, ‘no cursing’ ‘no fighting’, this is the complete opposite to
what the film is about. There is a duck smoking a cigarette, this
suggests that everything in the town is corrupt.
THE INCREDIBLES
HTTP://WWW.ARTOFTHETITLE.COM/TITLE/THE-
INCREDIBLES/
The opening sequence starts with the ‘I’ log, this makes it obvious to the
audience that this is the logo to look out for. The title is presented in red
and black, this links to the film because this is the colours that ‘The
Incredibles’ wear. As the title fades, you see the four main characters
running off in different directions, it is obvious to the audience because
they appear as the title fades. It shows the characters throwing punches,
this shows the audience that there will be some action in the film. The
opening sequence is in CGI, it looks like it could be from a magazine.
Which implies that it is a children film. It then shows the audience the
characters powers, the audience can then infer that they are super
heroes. As two of the protagonists are running in a force field, there is
bullets being shot at them. This suggests that people are out to kill them.
There is a lot of red in the background in the film, this implies the
protagonists are in danger very frequently. The opening sequence is all
in CGI.
ROBOT/
I robot is all in CGI. At the start, you can hear water being swished
around and can tell it is set underwater. This could confuse the
audience because the film is about robots, the audience will be
thinking if the robots could still function underwater. The colours
used at the start are different shades of blue, the colour blue
connotes futuristic things. The relates to the film because of the film
being about robots. The music is very mysterious and tense, this
will get the audience on the edge of their seat right from the start of
the film. The writing that appears on the screen disappears into
bubbles, this links to the setting of the film being underwater. There
is a mid shot of a woman in a car banging on the window for help
as the robot climbs across the windscreen. This implies that the
robots are friendly and could obey the humans. The robot smashes
the window and goes grabs the person in the car. As he puts his
hand in, there is a POV shot from the passenger of the car. This
makes the audience feel like they are in the characters situation,
which will make them think how he feels. As the intro is at its climax
the music comes to a stop, an alarm goes off and the someone
wakes up. The audience can infer that this is the main character as
he is the one dreaming. At the end, there is a close up of the main
characters face, he looks relieved because it was only a dream.
The audience could infer that this could be foreshadowing an event.
DIE ANOTHER DAY
HTTP://WWW.ARTOFTHETITLE.COM/TITLE/DIE-ANOTHER-
DAY/
The opening sequence starts with a man being drowned. As he face goes in the water there are
iced mermaids swimming around in the water. This shows the audience how cold the water is.
There is a extreme close up of a scorpions tail. A scorpion connotes a threat, which could
foreshadow an event of 007 being in danger. There is hundreds of scorpions on the floor and a
woman standing amongst them. This suggests that she is fearless. There is a extreme close up of a
brown eye. The eye transitions into flames, a flame connotes danger and panic. This tells the
audience that the film is action. A woman who has 007 tied up turns into flames. This makes it
obvious to the audience that she is an antagonist. There are women ice statues and women in
flames. This could confuse the audience because fire and ice doesn’t link together. The ice statue is
shown helping the main character 007. This implies that the statues are protagonists. The audience
could then infer that the character on fire are antagonists. The song being played in the background
is ‘Die Another Day’. The audience could guess that 007 isn’t going to die in the opening sequence.
PANIC ROOM
HTTP://WWW.ARTOFTHETITLE.COM/TITLE/PANIC-ROOM/
There is an establishing wide shot which sets the scene. The scene is set in a big city
because of their being skyscrapers. The credits look like they are a sign on the
skyscrapers. This suggests their names are being advertised on the skyscrapers which
gives them a high statues. The music is very dramatic, this builds suspense in the film and
will keep the audiences attention because they don’t know what’s going to happen next.
As the title of the film disappears the music then speeds up to build even more tension.
There is a ticking sound which suggests they are running out of time, the audience could
infer the characters are doing something illegal due to the tension being built. There is
some high angle, extreme long shots of the scene. This makes the innocent bi-standers
look vulnerable. The last shot is a two shot of two woman walking down the street talking.
One of the woman is wearing a coat with sunglasses on. This implies that she has
something to hide.
