This document discusses several strategies for helping students retain information, including reviewing content after periods of time, working in groups, using visual aids, and practicing with assessments. It provides research showing that reviewing information after 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days can improve retention. Working in groups through activities like reciprocal teaching or accountable talk can motivate students and allow them to process information in multiple ways. Formative and summative assessments are also shown to lengthen memory retention. Recording and representing information through writing, summarizing and analyzing allows students to revisit, organize and build upon what they have learned.
