Libraries: GPS, Maps, and Mobile devices -Orientation

Editor's Notes

  • #3 GPS, maps, mobile devices and the library’s webpage: how do these things relate? I am glad you ask… Get turn-by-turn GPS navigation to your destination/research . These devices will show you where you are and get you to where you want to go. The key is to have a plan. The purpose of a GPS device and other mobile devices is to assist you in getting to your destination quicker with fewer wrong turns and with an approximate time of arrival. Research is like a trip. It takes planning, an inquisitive mind and an awareness of your final destination. Even if you get off course or hit a dead end, it will even re-route you. Because it’s a jungle of information out there, the library’s webpage is a roadmap built to navigate you.
  • #4  The Assignment Scheduler is a tool designed to help the student manage his or her many assignments to ensure that they are all completed efficiently and on time. It's organized by due dates based on the tasks involved with completing the assignments. The assignment scheduler like the GPS. Because it’s a jungle of information out there, the library’s webpage was built to navigate you.
  • #5 Know where you want to go and get some background information.

  • #7 When you know what you want and what you need, you are ready to start searching for information.
  • #8 1. Catalog 2.Database 3. Web 4. Interlibrary Loan
  • #9 Where you are going to explore depends on the format you are going to use. Newspaper, books, databases, etc. Once you have evaluated what you have found, it is time to put it all together by writing and citing. Where do you want to go next?
