Survival techniques for testers, beyond the T-shape testerDerk-Jan de Grood
The T-shaped tester (Rob Lambert, Lisa Crispin and Janet Gregory) combines need for general knowledge with advanced test skills to be successful. But testing is a versatile profession and demands are growing.
Time to go beyond the T-shape and introduce the π-shaped tester. Extend your global knowledge (development, project management, agile etc) and test skills with yet another specialism to stay in demand, e.g. security, test automation, requirements.
In this presentation we’ll search for and define our future. How do we survive as a tester and what skills and knowledge de we need to develop.
Ask anyone who has ever been a part of a project, and they'll agree; your stakeholders are the key to your project's success. Yet the flip side to that coin is that often, problem stakeholders can bring about the demise of even the best planned project, impacting the business, end users, and the project team associated with that failure. The good news is that there is something you can do to prevent these situations from arising, or at least mitigate their effects. The best way to deal with an issue is to eliminate the root cause, and with that in mind, this session will identify the 6 worst offending stakeholders in terms of creating conflict and chaos, and bringing negativity to your projects. In this sessions, attendees will examine the many types of stakeholders that can bring a project down from the inside, and will contribute to a discussion on the biggest contributors of risk and conflict on a project.

Design Sprints: Creating a Space for Collaboration and InnovationMore Space For Light
We were invited to the New Venture Institute, Flinders University to speak on the topic of Design Sprints and how they have the potential to transform the way organisations work.
The mission of More Space For Light from the get-go has been to help organisations out of a muddle by transferring their 'why' 'who' and 'what' into an approach to inform their digital strategy for a great outcome. By incorporating the Design Sprint process we quickly realised that this was an unlock for collaboration and alignment that helped achieve a better outcome.

Philippe Lewicki (AfterNow): User Experience for Practical Applications in Mixed Reality
Mixed reality devices like the Hololens open up a new realm of possibilities in terms of user interfaces and user experience. Today, we mainly find game-like experiences or ports of a 2D user interface in a 3D space, but with more time in the device, our group discovered options that make much better use of this space. From our own research and experience in working on practical applications in mixed reality, we explore what we’ve learned and user experience processes we’ve adapted to create new and meaningful user interfaces that take better advantage of the medium.
