Organ donation in the Russian Federation is governed by opt-out legislation where anyone who has not refused is a donor. The major organs that can be successfully transplanted include the heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, eye tissue, bone, skin, heart valves, and veins. There is a critical need for organ donation in Russia with around 5,000 people annually in need of transplants. Key challenges include developing and improving laws around donation to increase rates. Public awareness campaigns aim to educate citizens on the benefits of donation.
