Georgia-Mae Morrell created an Opie self-portrait by using the magnetic lasso tool to trace individual features like hair, face, and clothing on separate layers, and then filled them in using tools like the paint brush to replicate details like eyes, nose, and chin. She found the magnetic lasso hardest to use on her hair against her hoodie. While she was successful in completing the task, she feels she could have added highlights or other details to make the portrait more realistic.

To complete my Opie Self Portrait first of all, I used the magnetic lasso tool to
trace the outline of my hair, my face and features on my face and my clothing.
I needed to make a separate layer for every individual feature for example I
had two different layers for my face and my neck. For the eyes you needed to
make a separate layer and use the paint tool to create black dots to replicate
the eyes, then I clicked off the layer to then repeat this step but for the nose
and other features such as my chin line. To create other features such as the
hair, face and neck you need to lasso the outline of the feature right click and
click on “layer via copy”.
In my opinion, the hardest tool to use was the magnetic lasso as it was hard
to control as my hair was camouflaged with my hoodie so therefore made it
harder to outline.
I think that I was fairly successful in completing the given brief because it was
completed to my best ability. If I was to do this task again I would try to add
highlights or other features to make my portrait look more realistic.
