- Explain what my role is - venn diagram - getting store of info held in cultural institutions out into the public domain - through open knowledge tools such as Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. Massively expanding reach of an organisation. I’m going to talk about open knowledge, open data, open culture, open source - all linked, all slightly different, all very relevant. Web 3.0?
- Open data & open knowledge - open data made useful Relationship of open licensing / creative commons licensing - allows its reuse, enables it to be spread and used
- Why would you give something away for free? Why do people give away free hugs? What does the act of giving get the giver in return?
- National and international context More than just using open source software or grabbing images from Wikimedia Commons 131 linked datasets available on http://statistics.gov.scot/ - index of multiple deprivation, house prices, care homes, vacant & derelict land… useful civic information that can help you discover more about the environment in which you live. Helps you draw conclusions about the environment in which you live. Innovation - transport information helps us develop apps to allow travellers to get around more easily
- PSI DIRECTIVE - AMENDED TO INCLUDE PUBLIC SECTOR MUSEUMS, LIBRARIES & ARCHIVES
- Same fears of letting go that we saw with social media, same loss of control, except here with added loss of revenue fears, sometimes! (in the case of museums… you don’t own this) Nothing to lose but your obfuscation
