SharePoint 2013 Composites from Microsoft and AtidanDavid J Rosenthal
SharePoint Composite Fundamentals
What is a SharePoint Composite?
Your organization has chosen and deployed Microsoft SharePoint Products 2013, and you’re on a mission to use and evangelize its many benefits. As you promote and adopt SharePoint Products 2013 throughout your business, you find the need to help users change old habits. Instead of storing files in network or e-mail folders, you gradually move them to SharePoint libraries for central management. Instead of routing documents in e-mail, you send links so that all users see the same and latest copy of the file in a shared library. Instead of attaching a spreadsheet of tables in e-mail, you use a list and list views to easily share and update the same data. Instead of manually performing routine business processes, you are using workflows to streamline regular tasks. Gradually, you are moving key project, content, and process information from individual e-mail accounts, personal computers, network drives, and sticky notes to SharePoint Products 2013 so that your teams and business can collaborate much more effectively.
But, is there more? Yes there is, and it’s called SharePoint Composites.
SharePoint Composites enable you to rapidly create solutions by assembling, connecting, and configuring the basic building blocks of functionality available in SharePoint Products 2013, and in many cases, Microsoft Office 2013. A SharePoint Composite combines data, documents, and business process in a useful, productive way.
Think of a SharePoint Composite like a wood composite: Pre-engineered layers merged together to provide a solution that is practical, inexpensive, easy to maintain, and good for your environment
In most cases, these solutions do not require code. Now there’s nothing wrong with writing code. But here’s a motto you might live by from now on: “Let’s not write code until we have to write code.”
In short, a SharePoint Composite is a “do-it-yourself” business solution. A SharePoint Composite could be as simple as a custom Web Page that uses a site list and several connected Web Parts to track mileage in a small business. Or, a SharePoint Composite could be as sophisticated as a corporate-wide absence reporting system connected to a Human Resource database by using Business Connectivity Services. A SharePoint Composite bears close resemblance to the often-used term, “mashup”. A mashup is a quick Web application that incorporates data into a simple, visual, and interactive solution. However, the term “composite” emphasizes the breadth and depth of solutions you can build on the SharePoint Products 2013 platform.

Sharepoint 2013-site-mailboxes-overcome-the-limitationsJames Fox
The White Paper focuses SharePoint 2013 Site Mailboxes, looking at their benefits, limitations and how they can be extended to overcome some of their limitations.
The White Paper address the following of Site Mailboxes/Team Mailboxes:
- Capture email attributes when saving to a Site Mailbox
- Tag Content with custom metadata
- Save to Site Mailboxes from Windows Explorer & Office applications
- Access SharePoint capabilities from within a Site Mailbox in Outlook 2013
- Manage email attachments with Site Mailboxes
SharePoint 2013 Site Mailboxes - Overcoming the LimitationsDavid J Rosenthal
Since the inception of Microsoft SharePoint, integrating email and providing an intuitive means for an end user to interact with SharePoint from within Microsoft Outlook has been missing.
Are Site Mailboxes in SharePoint 2013 the answer to solving this problem?
Microsoft SharePoint 2013 has introduced a new concept called Site Mailboxes to help address Microsoft Outlook integration and broaden the enterprise content management (ECM) capability of SharePoint. Site Mailboxes provide for better management and compliance of content with the ability to define retention policies at a site level, encompassing both SharePoint and Exchange content. In addition to Site Mailboxes, SharePoint 2013 also offers significant enhancements to eDiscovery and the introduction of an eDiscovery Centre.
In this whitepaper, we’ll look at what SharePoint 2013 Site Mailboxes are and the benefits they offer from the perspective of end users, records management and the IT Department. Secondly, we’ll identify limitations of Site Mailboxes and present three approaches for implementing solutions to meet your business requirements.
Finally, the whitepaper will look at how the limitations of Site Mailboxes can be overcome by extending and complementing Site Mailboxes with OnePlaceMail. Therefore, leveraging the benefits provided by both Site Mailboxes and OnePlaceMail to broaden the solutions you can deliver on the SharePoint platform.

Protect your hybrid workforce across the attack chainDavid J Rosenthal
Security is one of the most important considerations for SMBs. In fact, 77% of SMBs in a recent survey consider security a top feature when purchasing new PCs.1
Last year alone, 67% of SMBs experienced a security breach that cost, on average, 3.3% of their revenue.1 That’s a big risk to both profitability and reputation, and it shows how critical strong security protections are for businesses.
The good news is that 69% of SMBs in a recent survey agreed that new Windows 10 Pro devices offered better security and data protection than older devices.1
Research shows that modern devices help business owners by preventing identity attacks, minimizing phishing, and reducing the risk of malware attacks. These are all common ways that bad actors steal business data, steal personal information, or hold our devices hostage in exchange for huge amounts of ransom money.
And with modern PCs, most security functions can happen in the cloud, without interrupting worker productivity.

The Java ecosystem is very broad, with different technologies including Java SE, Java EE/Jakarta EE, Spring, numerous application servers, and other frameworks. Wherever you are in Java, Azure supports your workload and process with an abundance of choice – from IaaS to fully managed services. You can run any application architecture, from monoliths, to containerized monoliths, all the way to completely microservices based apps.
We see three broad patterns for running Java applications in the cloud, depending on how much control or productivity you need.
The first is lift and shift with Virtual Machines:
Virtual machines provide the most flexibility, control and visibility while moving to the cloud, especially for initial lift and shift of Java workloads. Azure provides a variety of Java focused VM images and solutions templates in the Azure Marketplace to get you up and running quickly.
The second is modernization using containers:
Containers provide portability, flexibility, scalability, manageability, repeatability, and predictability.
Azure provides best of breed support for Docker and Kubernetes, especially through the Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Azure Red Hat OpenShift.
Finally, Azure has the most managed hosting options for Java applications of any major cloud platform with fully managed PaaS for Spring, Tomcat, and JBoss EAP:
Managed services offer ease-of-use, ease-of-management, productivity, and lower total cost of ownership.
You can focus on building your applications, not managing infrastructure.
All of this is supported by managed databases and DevOps tooling:
Use fully managed SQL and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, Cosmos DB, and SQL.
Keep using the tools you love, with plugins for IntelliJ and Eclipse, integrations with a variety of DevOps tools like Maven, Gradle, Jenkins, and GitHub.
Get comprehensive protection across all your platforms and clouds
Protect your organization from threats across devices, identities, apps, data and clouds. Get unmatched visibility into your multiplatform environment that unifies Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) and Extended Detection and Response (XDR). Simplify your security stack with Azure Sentinel and Microsoft Defender.
Protect your business with a universal identity platform
The Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) enterprise identity service provides single sign-on and multi-factor authentication to help protect your users from 99.9 percent of cybersecurity attacks.
Gartner named Microsoft a leader in Magic Quadrant 2020 for Access Management
Single sign-on simplifies access to your apps from anywhere
Conditional Access and multi-factor authentication help protect and govern access
A single identity platform lets you engage with internal and external users more securely
Developer tools make it easy to integrate identity into your apps and services
Connect your workforce
Whether people are on-site or remote, give them seamless access to all their apps so they can stay productive from anywhere. Automate workflows for user lifecycle and provisioning. Save time and resources with self-service management.
Choose from thousands of SaaS apps
Simplify single sign-on. Azure AD supports thousands of pre-integrated software as a service (SaaS) applications.
Protect and govern access
Safeguard user credentials by enforcing strong authentication and conditional access policies. Efficiently manage your identities by ensuring that the right people have the right access to the right resources.
Engage with your customers and partners
Secure and manage customers and partners beyond your organizational boundaries, with one identity solution. Customize user journeys and simplify authentication with social identity and more.
Integrate identity into your apps
Accelerate adoption of your application in the enterprise by supporting single sign-on and user provisioning. Reduce sign-in friction and automate the creation, removal, and maintenance of user accounts.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
