This document summarizes a research proposal on the role of defence diplomacy in realizing an East African security community. The study aims to evaluate the relationship between defence diplomacy and regional security, analyze how defence diplomacy has actualized aspirations of the African Peace and Security Architecture, and assess the role of defence diplomacy in realizing an East African security community. A mixed methods research design is adopted involving surveys of defence attaches and participants in exchange training programs. The hypotheses are that there is a positive correlation between defence diplomacy and regional security, defence diplomacy has contributed to African Peace and Security Architecture goals, and adopting defence diplomacy among East African states will enhance security community realization.
