2. Assessment and Intervention
Using HUD Community Development Block Grant funds
through the City of Omaha, OHKA completed 22 homes
in the Prospect Village Neighborhood. We
also began receiving referrals from Aetna Better Health
of Nebraska and Omaha Children's Hospital for our
Project AIR to serve children diagnosed with asthma.
This year, OHKA received grant awards from both the
Peter Kiewit Foundation and United Way of the
Midlands to support our Assessment and Intervention
programs.
Education and Outreach
Through OHKA's EPA grant-funded Grassroots Latino
Environmental Education (GLEE) program, we have
partnered with 6 organizations to recruit 38 community
health workers to train in Healthy Homes. In 2015, OHKA
also trained 210 people to become EPA certified.
Collective Impact
OHKA and the City of Omaha were awarded a
HUD grant to make 135 houses lead-safe and healthy
over the course of three years. OHKA and Together have
also started a project called "From Habitable to Healthy"
to ensure that Together's clients have Healthy Homes.
Policy Solutions
In 2015, OHKA educated the Nebraska State Legislature
to help pass Senator Sara Howard's Carbon Monoxide
Safety Act which will require CO detectors in all dwellings
in the state starting in 2017.
