The Modern Olympic Games were founded in 1896 in Athens by Pierre de Coubertin, who established the International Olympic Committee with a goal of promoting international friendship through sporting competition. The Youth Olympic Games were launched in 2010 as a multi-sport event for young athletes aged 14 to 18 to emphasize sports, culture and education.
