This document compares augmented reality technologies ARKit from Apple and ARCore from Google. It discusses the history and types of augmented reality, as well as the technical details and capabilities of ARKit and ARCore. Key differences noted are that ARKit provides better hardware/software integration and more reliable tracking, while ARCore enables better mapping and more reliable recovery. The future of augmented reality is seen to include standardized 6DOF tracking, 3D scene reconstruction and understanding, cloud support and multi-user experiences.
