• Mental suffering:- Pi could
no longer believe that his
brother, his father and mother
who nurtures him, were alive or
coming for him. He is crying
and distraught. He could not say
proper goodbye to Richard
Parker.
Physical suffering:-
• Pi:- pi become dehydrated and
suffering terribly.
• He is so parched and taste in his
mouth is unbearable.
• He feels that lack of water is
causing him to feel as if his
blood is thickening.

and water.

• As old man says in day four that “everything kills
everything else in some way.”
• Pi is vegetarian but afterward for the sake of living he
kills the fish.

7. Isolation
• Old man and sea:-
• The old man lives his life isolated from most people especially
during his time on the sea. This isolation defines who he is,
and emphasizes the unique nature of his character.
• But also a necessary element to his battle with the fish. Although
the old man accepts and admits help from others , it is alone that
he does battle with the marlin and must prove himself and his
capabilities.

8. Life of Pi • On the boat he experienced the struggle
of living day to day and it put his faith to
the test as he had to truly believe in God
and that he would help him. As time went
on and no help came it tested his
commitment to his faith.
• He prayed for his daily needs but the
larger question of faith was why God was
keeping him alive but not truly saving
him. His journey on the boat and his
isolation from the world taught him that
faith is not easy. God will not always give
you the help you want but he will always
give you the help you need.
