4. An elderly Japanese man and his giant African pet tortoise
Bon-Chan have become an Internet sensation after pictures of
them walking around parts of downtown Tokyo went viral.
When the tortoise is not enjoying a walk, he lives in a wooden
enclosure designed by the owner himself and chomps on
vegetables and fruits, including carrots, lettuce and apples.
Bon-chan, also named Master Roshi in reference to a
character from the popular Japanese cartoon series Dragon
Ball Z, has not been weighed in a while but the owner thinks
that his pet is probably around 70 kilograms. The Japanese
holiday O-bon inspired the name Bon-chan which were taking
place around the time when the tortoise was bought by the
owner’s wife.
5. One very hot day, when a carabao went into the river to bathe,
he met a shell and they began talking together. "You are very
slow," said the carabao to the shell. "Oh, no," replied the shell. "I
can beat you in a race." "Then let us try and see," said the
carabao. So they went out on the bank and started to run. After
the carabao had gone a long distance he stopped and called,
"Shell!" And another shell lying by the river answered, "Here I
am!" Then the carabao, thinking that it was the same shell with
which he was racing, ran on. By and by he stopped again and
called, "Shell!" And another shell answered, "Here I am!" The
carabao was surprised that the shell could keep up with him. But
he ran on and on, and every time he stopped to call, another
shell answered him. But he was determined that the shell should
not beat him, so he ran until he dropped dead.
6. FACT & OPINION
•A fact is a statement that can be verified. It can
be proven to be true or false through objective
evidence.
•An opinion is a statement that expresses a
feeling, an attitude, a value judgment, or a
belief. It is a statement that is neither true nor
false. Or it may feel true for some, but false for
others.

8. Other tips on fact and opinion:
•Opinions may sometimes look like facts
because of professional or technical-
sounding words:
Example: State funded and accredited
schools are far superior to private institutions.
• A false fact is still a fact:
Example: A majority of experts agree that
smoking daily can improve your health.
9. • Predictions are opinions because they cannot be
verified right now: Ex. By the year 2025, Americans
will have socialized medicine.
•Value (or judgment) words often represent opinions:
Ex. Antonio Banderas is the most handsome actor in
the movie Interview with the Vampire.
• The word “should” usually signals an opinion:
Ex. Government regulation of our private lives should
be halted immediately.
