“Understanding How to Distribute Your Book”
Authors will learn how to navigate the book supply chain. Terms such as wholesaler, distributor, e-retailer, and print on demand (POD) will be defined. Learn the value of the International Standard Book Number (ISBN) and how to submit your title data to specific publishing outlets that will assist in the distribution of your book. Key takeaways will be expert insights into how each player (wholesaler, retailer, distributor, e-book conversion house, and self publishing service provider) within the supply chain assists the self-publisher in getting a book to readers. Terminology that outlines each publishing standard like e-book production, POD, short run, and ePub will also be covered. A comprehensive glossary of terms will be distributed to attendees that includes brief definitions of the terms discussed throughout the presentation.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2. Introduction
There are some popular business in Dhaka City ,selling
old books is one of them. Old books selling business is
most popular and profitable in Nilkhet.
Nilkhet serves as a multipurpose destination, where a
student from any campus of the country is likely to
find the basic necessities needed for school and
university. Starting from small items like stationery to
absolute essentials like books is available here.
3. Background
Old book business in Nilkhet began
immediately after Independence, when four
young booksellers started selling second-hand
books and magazines on the pavement outside
the Balaka cinema hall.
Within years, that small business has become
large profitable business.
Because of its proximity to Dhaka University
and BUET as well as several Universities and
major colleges such as Dhaka College and
Eden College. The Nilkhet market has also
become a major source of academic material
for the city’s students.
4. Background
The market has long been the center of the second-
hand book trade in Dhaka.
It contains several dozen shops that deal in used books
and magazines, especially English-language material
published in the West.
Foreign books, journals and comics that are either
unavailable elsewhere or only available new at a
prohibitive price.
Ownership of shops that were once upon a time sold at
Tk 400,now advance of 10 lakhs needs to be given and
rent of Tk 30000 per month.
5. Textbooks of all levels (from primary to tertiary) and for all disciplines may be
purchased at Nilkhet. It is known to have the largest collection of books for
students belonging to almost all sections. Since, Bangladesh is a country
consisting of three separate education streams, namely, Bangla, English and
Madrasa medium, books for each category are required round the year. And
what better place to find them other than in Nilkhet, where there are different
'alleys' dedicated to different sections of education.
It also has many shops that provide auxiliary services for students, such as
photocopying, word-processing and book-binding. Indeed, “photocopying at
Nilkhet” is a common rite of passage for nearly all students.
6. SWOT analysis is an analytical method
which is used to identify and categorize
significant internal (Strengths and
Weaknesses) and external (Opportunities
and Threats) factors faced either in a
particular arena, such as an organization, or
a territory, such as a region, nation, or city.
It provides information that is helpful in
matching the firms' resources and
capabilities to the competitive environment
in which it operates and is therefore an
important contribution to the strategic
planning process.
7. Strength
1 Monopoly business ,Market leader.
2 No competitor exists.
3 Competence high.
4 Greater Customer base .
5 Location Advantage
6 Costs of running the business low.
7.Vertical integration,e.g.printing
and selling.
Weakness
1 Variable prices.
2 Customers have to bargain a lot.
3Original books are not available.
4 Low Quality Printed books.
5 Rent cost is high .
6 Unable to finance needed to improve the
market structure.
Opportunities
1Employment opportunity in book selling
business.
2Contribute income to the economy.
3 Adequate supply of books to the students.

illegally, which may be threat in the future if

lightens accidently then many books get
“SWOT ANALYSIS of Old Book Business of Nilkhet”
8. Findings
Everyday many students come to Nilkhet to get books,
handouts and notes to be photocopied, they cannot do without
Nilkhet.
The Nilkhet book market, being a cluster of shops, makes it
beneficial to the stores in a unique way. Often one shop owner
provides another shop keeper with a book he is looking for
according to the customer's demand.
A lot of books especially old ones are donated by students to the
shopkeepers or sold to them at very reasonable rates.
Recently the problem of frequent load shedding and his
incapacity to find alternative electricity supply has resulted in
loss.
9. Findings
Most of the footpath sellers who vend books on the
pavements of Nilkhet seem to earn the most profit
since they do not really need much to set up their
stacks of books, and they usually sell pirated books of
low print quality, and are able to cater to the large
number of students who usually have limited cash in
their hands.
There are also many shops that make fake certificates
and documents according to customers' instruction.
Although the entrepreneurs confirmed that such shops
exist, they deny knowing their exact location.
The presence of vertical integration in the form of
countless printing, publishing and specialized book
binding houses significantly enhances the
sustainability of this book selling business.
10. Conclusion
However ,despite its popularity there are many threats and weakness that
owners of book shops should try to avoid ,especially issuing certificates ,selling
books illegally by avoiding patent and copyrights which may be a major
threat in the future.
They should try to improve the interior market place and improve the structure
to avoid accidents caused due to fire and reduce congestion.
They should match strengths and opportunities which they have especially
greater competitiveness and market base to become more successful in the
future and continue their business for the foreseeable future.
