I. Background of the Company / Company Profile
The Forest Lodge at Camp John Hay is open to the whole gang, the entire
family and even corporate denizens who long to escape to city and let their hair
down and have the best fun in Baguio on the biggest and hottest deal!
Located inside the Camp John Hay, The Forest Lodge offers the best of both
words: living spaces that are big on comfort and an outdoor environment that
offers numerous fun activities. The Forest Lodge gives guest a choice of
accommodations: The Superior Rooms, Deluxe Rooms, and One-Bedroom Suites.
Spacious rooms with windows open to more views of the surrounding pine forest
and gardens. Free Wi-Fi services are available at the lobby for those who still
want to get in touch with family, friends and business associates while on a
holiday.
The Forest Lodge offers some superb treats at The Twist. The new cafe has
relaxed and friendly feel for casual dining. Well-known culinary artist, Chef Billy
King, has whipped up a menu of delicious snacks, quick-but-hefty short order
items and tempting pastries.
While at The Forest Lodge, guest can enjoy some retail therapy at the Mile High
situated in front of the hotel. Restaurants and cafes offer anything from authentic
Italians treats to Filipino all-time favorites. The Baguio-Ayaland Techno Hub, on
the other hand, invites visitors to its selection of charming cafes and specialty
restaurants for quiet meals and snacks.
II. Practicum Program
As an intern at The Forest Lodge, I am attending my internship program
from 8:00 in the morning until 5:00 in the afternoon. I am assigned to the MIS
Department of the company, we are assigned to be the technical support. They
give the interns some task to do depending on the activity of the company
I am also assigned to do network related tasks like cabling and
troubleshooting. Fixing printers in the different departments, configuring access
points and checking the internet connection. If there is a technical problem in a
department, I together with my co-interns, go to the department where there is
a problem and try to fix it.
III. Technical and Soft Skills Learned
Technical Skills
The technical skills that I learned are troubleshooting networks, configuring
access points and router, cabling, probing Ethernet cables. These training
enhanced my knowledge as a Network Security. I also learned about installation
of hardware like access points and switch, and also fixing of wirings.
As an intern, I am mainly tasked to be an IT Support and Maintenance
especially when there is a technical problem in the hotel. I also do a WiFi Assist, if
the guest of the hotel cannot connect their mobile phones or laptops in to the
internet, I will put the correct IP Address of the internet and after that, the login
page of the WiFi will appear. For laptops, first I’ll check if the it’s connected to
the WiFi but if no internet then I’ll do the same procedure in the mobile phone,
but if the WiFi is disabled or cannot connect, I will ask if the guest if it’s company
laptop so I can disable the DHCP of the laptop.
Another skills that I learned in my internship program is how to use
Photoshop and creating websites using HTML and CSS. Our supervisors asked us
to make some advertisements, posters and TV signage using Photoshop and
creating webpage depending on what event of the hotel.
Lastly, our Supervisor asked us to do a project called Wi-Fi Heatmap where
we will identify the strength of the access points each floor of the hotel.
 TV SIGNAGE FOR NBA FINALS AND FASHION SHOW
 Facebook Advertisements
 WEBSITES
 CABLING
Wi-Fi HEATMAP
Soft Skills
My experience in my internship program trained me how to be flexible in
any work or task given to me, don’t be scared when the given task is not familiar
to you because your supervisor will guide and help you and for sure you will learn
something new. I learned that asking question is very important especially in a
situation where the instructions are not clear enough. I learned how to
communicate with my supervisor and especially to my co-interns. The most
important lesson I learned in my internship is treating everybody with the same
respect and don’t forget to enjoy while doing work.
IV. Recommendations for further improvement of the Company’s Internship
Program.(if any)
The Forest Lodge is a good company. The employees are treating us
professionally. However, there is no workstation for interns; this causes the interns
the need to bring their own laptops, which is too hassle. I highly recommend that
this company must provide more workstation. Overall, The Forest Lodge at Camp
John Hay is a nice place to get an internship experience because there are lot
of knowledge to be acquired there.
V. Advise to future interns
As an IT trainee, they must be always ready to every problem
encountered by the company, they must be humble enough to accept their
wrong doings and learn from their mistakes so that it won’t happen again, and
they must also know how to interact with different kinds of people in the
workplace because every people has its own attitude. I also advise them to
manage their time wisely, because every time counts and its an opportunity to
learn many things. Moreover, practice professionalism during the internship
program.
