I. Background of the Company / Company Profile
The Forest Lodge hotel is located inside Camp John Hay and it
took 10 years to built and provided 208-room for guest. They features a
log cabin design that inspires togetherness, bonding and the traditional
Baguio hospitality. The Forest Lodge hotel is open to everyone and
provide the both worlds: living spaces that are big on comfort and an
outdoor environment that offers various excitement activities.
II. Practicum Program
As a trainee at The Forest Lodge, I am attending the internship 6
days in a week from 8 AM to 5:00 PM.My assigned duty everyday was to
check all printers from different department such as HR, Reservation
office, Executive working-place, Housekeeping and Finance
Department. As a trainee it is important to refill the ink tank and clean
print head of printer. I am also required to do daily speedtest from
Lobby up to 5th
floor of the hotel and made a report.
Moreover, assisting the employees and guests regarding the wifi
connections, troubleshooting and hardware maintenance. For the
upcoming events in the hotel we are required to design a poster using
photoshop. Furthermore, answering the telephone professionally is one
of our important task.
With my co-interns, we are given a special topic which is the wifi
heat-map. We are required to determine what floor and room has the
strongest and weakest wifi signal.
III. Technical and Soft Skills Learned
I completed 325 hours of internship at the Forest Lodge Hotel and I
have learned alot of technical and soft skills.
For technical skills I have learned the connection of shared printer and
how to map the connection of printer using the IP address of the host.
I am able to understand the different kinds of access point that are
implemented in the hotel. I have also experienced and learned more
about the appropriate way of cleaning a CPU since we are assigned to
make an inventory of each CPU after cleaning it.
As a Network Security student I had a hard time designing posters
using photoshop but with the help of my our supervisors and my
co-interns I have overcome this problem.
The main task that I have accomplished with my co-interns was the
wifi-heat map of the hotel, we determined which floor and room has
the highest wifi signal.
Images that I have accomplished:
 Photoshop
 Inventory of workstations
 Internet Speed Test
 Inventory of access point Implemented in the Hotel
 WiFi Heat-Map
Soft Skills
The most important lesson that I have learned is to be a punctual
person. I have also enhance my communication skills by asking
questions when the instructions is not clear enough. I have realized and
gave importance of teamwork with respect in the workplace because
the task wouldn’t be successfully finished without different ideas and
solutions.
IV. Recommendations for further improvement of the Company’s
Internship Program.(if any)
My recommendation for further improvement of The Forest Lodge
Internship program would be the MIS office must be transfer to other
area since the MIS office is near at the engineering working place and
its stockroom, this causes breathing solvent paints fumes for too long
and lead to sickness.
V. Advise to future interns
To the future Interns, as a trainee be professional in the workplace
and always respect everyone. If you do not understand the instruction
clearly be brave enough to ask questions because it will lead you to the
right path as an intern. It’s okay to make mistakes as long as you learn
from it. As a trainee you should know how to deal with different situation
and incase of any help ask your supervisors. Moreover, enjoy your
on-the-job training and always be willing to do new thing.
