PROJECT INFORMATION
The proposed industrial development is a fashion store located at 21, Coker
road, Ilupeju, Lagos.
The structure is a story building which consist of the ground floor where the
reception, Admin office, showroom, stores and the first floor where we have
the production room, changing room, CEO office etc.
The site area consist of the main building, gate house, generator house, water
supply system and drainage system.
The structure is powered by the power holding company substation (PHCN)
at Ikeja and has a stand by Mikano generator to supply electricity in the
absence of supply of electricity from the PHCN.
The building compound has a car parking space, the building is constructed
on a 24m by 36m plot of land occupying a building foot print of 244.24 sqm.
The proposed building is for industrial use
The design report is prepared to give a clear and
detailed description of all Mechanical and Electrical
systems to meet required standards.
The number of employed staffs are 15; 6 tailors, a
cleaner, a receptionist, 4 admin/sales staffs, 2
persons in charge of storage rooms and a dispatch
rider
The average number of expected visitors per day is
10,
This analysis helps to design the best electrical and
mechanical systems and layouts that best suit the
building considering the purpose of the building and
number of users
PROPOSED
LOCATION
LOCATION: 21, COKER ROAD, ILUPEJU, LAGOS STATE.

ELECTRICAL DESIGN
THE ELECTRICAL DESIGN INCLUDES:
1. LIGHTING FIXTURES CONNECTED TO SWITCH
2. POWER CIRCUIT AND OUTLETS
3. POWER PANEL AND ELECTRICAL METER
4. SERVICE CABLE SUPPLY PATH
Lighting design- The lumen design method was use to determine the lighting layout that will provide the required
illuminance in each room. Its mostly use for interior lighting calculation
Power circuit- the design of the power circuit is base on the anticipated appliance loadings applying the ring
circuit consideration
Air conditioning circuit- the design adopted was the Rule of thumb method of design.
Using reference method B of table 402 A (enclosed) 1 two –core cable, with or without protective conductor single
phase a.c or d.c method of design was use in determining the cable size required for each circuit.
ELECTRICAL UTILITY DESIGN
Mode of supply- underground supply from the electrical supply authority to electrical pole of three phase 4 wire
from a secondary distribution transformer.
Supply type system to the building- Three phase meter 4 wire of 415v supply to the whole building from a three
phase 4 wire from a secondary distribution transformer.
Supply system to each floor of the building- Single phase 3 wires of 220v supply to each floor.
Supply system to site surrounding- Single phase 3 wires of 220v supply to anything away from the building eg
water pump, gatehouse, building perimeter.
Earthing system used- TT system.
Frequency- 50Hz
Distribution board- Type 100A TPN 5 way MCB Distribution board to each floor and external surroundings

Water supply system adopted is an Indirect system of supply
This is a system of water supply where water is fed from the mains usually controlled by a valve to
the overhead tank and then supplies water to different floors by gravity.
Submersible pump capacity for borehole design-1.0 hp Crompton 7STG water pump. Assumed flow
rate- 5GPM
Surface pump capacity for overhead tank design-1.5 hp City pump. Assumed flow rate- 5GPS
Average users of water per day- 25 persons
Daily water supply- 1500 liters/day
Time take to fill tank- 7minutes
Supply pipe used- PPR pipe (polypropylene random polymer)
Drainage pipe used- PVC pipe(polyvinylchloride)
Capacity of soak away- 6.68m^3
Method of design- Effective design area and rainfall intensity method
Capacity of septic tank- average waste flow- gallon/day= 336 gallons.
Method of design- Estimated daily waste flow method. A separate drainage system was adopted for
waste discharge
PIPE REFERENCE AND FITTINGS
PLUMBING SYSTEM
WATER SYSTEM
THE SUPPLY LINE (PIPE) WAS
CALCULATED BY ADOPTING THE
STRAIGHTFORWARD SYSTEMATIC
METHOD BASED ON TABULATION USING
PARAMETERS SUCH AS:
• LOADING UNIT
• FLOW RATE
• PIPE LENGTH (EQUIVALENT/ACTUAL )
• HEAD (TOTAL/AVAILABLE/RESIDUAL)
PROPOSED INDUSTRIAL BUILDING FOR A FASHION STORE
SEWAGE TREATMENT
SEPTIC TANK WAS ADOPTED AS SEWAGE
TREATMENT STRUCTURE FOR THE
BUILDING.
FACTORS THAT SWAYED SELECTION OF
SEPTIC TANK INCLUDE:
1. LOWER COST OF CONSTRUCTION AND
MAINTENANCE.
2. ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
Water supply system and drainage system pipe size chart
For water supply distribution, pipe is selected base on the typical supply pipe diameter(imperial)

CONCLUSION
DURING THE TIME I WAS WORKING ON
THE REPORT, I HAD A BETTER
UNDERSTANDING OF HOW BUILDING
SERVICES ARE ANALYZED AND
DESIGNED, AND THE NECESSITY TO HAVE
A WELL CALCULATED LAYOUT TO
OPTIMIZE THE USE OF THE BUILDING.

Building services mechanical design Water supply system adopted is an Indirect system of supply This is a system of water supply where water is fed from the mains usually controlled by a valve to the overhead tank and then supplies water to different floors by gravity. Submersible pump capacity for borehole design-1.0 hp Crompton 7STG water pump. Assumed flow rate- 5GPM Surface pump capacity for overhead tank design-1.5 hp City pump. Assumed flow rate- 5GPS Average users of water per day- 25 persons Daily water supply- 1500 liters/day Time take to fill tank- 7minutes Supply pipe used- PPR pipe (polypropylene random polymer) Drainage pipe used- PVC pipe(polyvinylchloride) Capacity of soak away- 6.68m^3 Method of design- Effective design area and rainfall intensity method Capacity of septic tank- average waste flow- gallon/day= 336 gallons. Method of design- Estimated daily waste flow method. A separate drainage system was adopted for waste discharge

  • 20. WATER SYSTEM THE SUPPLY LINE (PIPE) WAS CALCULATED BY ADOPTING THE STRAIGHTFORWARD SYSTEMATIC METHOD BASED ON TABULATION USING PARAMETERS SUCH AS: • LOADING UNIT • FLOW RATE • PIPE LENGTH (EQUIVALENT/ACTUAL ) • HEAD (TOTAL/AVAILABLE/RESIDUAL)
  • 21. PROPOSED INDUSTRIAL BUILDING FOR A FASHION STORE SEWAGE TREATMENT SEPTIC TANK WAS ADOPTED AS SEWAGE TREATMENT STRUCTURE FOR THE BUILDING. FACTORS THAT SWAYED SELECTION OF SEPTIC TANK INCLUDE: 1. LOWER COST OF CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE. 2. ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
