Achieving Network Deployment Flexibility with Mirantis OpenStackEric Zhaohui Ji
This is the deck presented for Intel Network Builder.
No longer do we live in a world where you can build your networks around expensive, proprietary pieces of hardware and software. Technology moves so fast that you need to be able to keep up, and that means changing your network on demand. But how can you achieve that kind of flexibility while still maintaining the crucial aspects of performance and reliability?
In this webinar we'll look at the network agility provided by OpenStack, which enables you to gain all of the advantages of software defined networking and Network Functions Virtualization without having to compromise on basic requirements. We'll discuss:
•How Mirantis OpenStack enables enterprise and telecom networking
•The features your OpenStack distribution needs to enable NFV
•Using DPDK and SR-IOV to enhance Virtual Network Function performance
•Achieving a Highly Available OpenStack control plane with Multi-rack deployment

Enterprise networks are now dealing with massive volumes of data, with a critical need to collect and analyze this data to respond faster and deliver insightful context. Traditional approaches, in which data is processed in remote servers, will no longer work. Data can burden the network unless some context is known. Edge computing can greatly reduce the data sent to the cloud or a remote server. Collecting and analyzing the data at the edge and making decisions locally rather than in centralized servers significantly reduces the latency and bandwidth of the network.
Powered by an x86 CPU, the application hosting solution on the Cisco Catalyst 9000 switching family provides the intelligence required at the edge. Native Docker engine support on the switches will enable users to build and bring their own applications without additional packaging. Cisco DNA Center will provide consistent workflows to manage the entire application lifecycle across multiple Cisco Catalyst 9000 switches through the App Hosting dashboard.

Application Visibility and Experience through Flexible NetflowCisco DevNet
The world of applications is changing rapidly in the enterprise; from the way applications are increasingly hosted in the cloud, the diverse nature of apps and to the way they are consumed by many devices. The need for organizations and network administrators is to focus on "Fast IT" - "Innovation in the Enterprise" is growing, which means having to spend less time on daily operations, maintenance and troubleshooting and more time on delivering business value with newer services. Cisco AVC with its NBAR2 technology is designed to detect applications and measure application performance through measuring round trip time, retransmission rates, jitter, delay, packet loss, MoS, URL statistics etc. Those details are transmitted using Flexible Netflow/IPFIX, so partners could leverage the data for application usage reporting, performance reporting and troubleshooting application issues to deliver best possible application experience.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
