Each manager will apply the observation – analyze –
improve method to understand their processes in
greater detail to uncover improvement opportunities
including latent safety & quality risks.
“Here’s what we need
from you…”
Managers will participate in the coaching process to
learn the skill and then train their team members.
Directors will monitor engagement.
How Observe-Analyze-Improve works
Basic Step (Outline only)
The Rapid Lean Coach partners with the selected manager who will acquire this
skill.
The Coach and manager select a target process in the area that can use
improvement.
We identify the scope and then walk the process to identify the major steps in the
process. We agree on why you want to observe this process and exactly what you
want to get out of it.
It helps to make a rough process map to use as a guide to know what is coming
next during the observation and serves as a place to document your observations.
Review together the “How to observe a process” sequence of steps.
• Go to the floor and record the observations
• Analyze the observations looking for trends, determine impacts and then
prioritize what should be worked on
• Create the appropriate improvement plans
We will cover:
1.“Purposeful presence on the floor” questions
2.Identify the 7 Wastes, latent safety & quality issues and the “hard” work.
3.Work flow interrupters
