The Bronze And Iron Age Essay
Classics Essay
Question: 1 What Can Homer tell us about the Bronze and Iron Age
The Bronze and Iron Ages were 2 of the main periods in Greek History and Homer can tell us a lot
about them. The Bronze Age was all about mixing copper with tin or arsenic to bronze hence it is
called the Bronze Age. The Iron Age was when the whole of the east Mediterranean was in crisis. In
central Anatolia, the collapse of the Hitties opened the gates to invaders who overran the country.
Firstly, let s talk about Homer a lot of the works that he wrote were set in the Bronze Age and Iron
Age. Homer is the first known European poet and of such importance to the Greeks. Homer became
the basis for Greek education and is still widely read in high schools and universities today. He is the
best primary source for knowing what the Greeks were thinking in the eighth century B.C. as they
fought each other and sailed across dangerous seas to found new city states in alien lands. Greeks
believe that that heroic society described by Homer flourished at a time corresponding to the 13th or
early 12th century in our chronology. Homers greatest works are the Iliad and Odyssey. The both tell
the story of heroes trying to survive their way through war and other things. Here is just an example of
Homer s poetry He cast on the fire bronze which is weariness, and tin with it and valuable gold and
silver and thereafter set forth upon its standard the great anvil, and gripped . The poems of Illiad depict

The Revolt Of The Fens
The Revolt in the Fens was lead by Hereward and had been strengthened by refugees from the
harrowing of Northumberland, including Earl Mokar. During this same time Osbjorn was taken bribes
that had weakened the army. However, even while his brother, Jarl Osbjorn could be bought off, but
King Swein of Denmark and his new fleet was not offered this same deal and was preparing for battle.
During this his brother Jarl Osbjorn and his fleet had been bought off, King Swein of Denmark and his
new fleet had not. What happened during 1070 and 1071 could be consider fact as it could legend. It is
know that William made two different attempts both unsuccessful, either in person or through a
lieutenant to take Isle Ely where Hereward and his forces were based. We also know that Hereward
did not fear to pay for his Danish allies. Hereward paid the Danish to sack the Peterborough and its
Cathedral, which was now controlled by the Norman Bishop. What it is still up to debate is how thing
exact happenings, nor the sequence of events. Eventually Swein, maybe seeing himself in a no win
situation, gave the offer to be paid off. The Normans soon took Ely after the betrayal of the local
monks secret causeways though the Fens that would allow an army to access the isle. Although Ely
fell in 1071, Hereward escaped and, with loyal followers, remained a nuisance to king William for
many more years to come. In 1072 another thorn in William side came form the scots with their

There are many technology that would had help Christopher Columbus with his journey to Asia,

the main three technology would had help Christopher Columbus with his journey to Asia are global
positioning system, the Concorde, and a submarine. If Columbus had a global positioning system,
GPS, sea navigation would be much easier, considering the use of satellite technology to hone into the
exact location of the Americas. This would ease the travels and judge which currents to ride on. If
Columbus had a GPS he could had type in Asia and would had been much easier. A GPS would had
probably made the trip to Asia easy and faster. If they had a GPS they would had probably had less
stroms. If Columbus had a GPS he would had never want to the Bahamas. A global positioning system
would had been the best technology for the trip to Asia. Also, with the addition of GPS, Columbus
could easily locate any destination and determine the amount of time needed to get there. With this
knowledge, he could settle many more lands than just America. Columbus could gain control of any
unclaimed territory. Columbus could have made his journey much easier by turning it into a flight
instead of a voyage. The Concorde is the fastest passenger plane in the world, reaching an astonishing
700 miles an hour. This plane could easily carry all of Columbus s crew. This would also shorten the
trip down to around three hours at most and provide a much more comfortable ride. As this plane
relied on jet fuel, there would also be the invention of today s modern aircraft, which would not only
affect the people in Portugal, but in other civilizations too, such as the peoples of Britain, the Dutch,
and the Spaniards. With the addition of a plane there also led to a place where all materials could be
easily kept safe and did not leak. On the Santà Maria, food was easily perishable. Because of the high
pressure surrounding the plane and less oxygen, food did not perish easily. Planes also came at another
advantage, and that was the emptiness of the sky at the time. No other planes were present, so air

Creating A Sustainable Terrestrial Ecosystem Within A...
Mesocosm Lab
Exploration
Research Question:
With the plants chosen, is it possible to create a sustainable terrestrial ecosystem within a sealed glass
jar?
Background Information
The purpose of this experiment is to become familiar with how an ecosystem works, and discover the
most sustainable kind of ecosystem. Based on knowing how an ecosystem works, predictions have
been made that state if a terrestrial mesocosm is sealed for four weeks with plants inside, it can
continue to live and thrive sealed from the outside environment because the plants will gain their
moisture from the humidity left in the sealed jar. The plants will use photosynthesis and carbon
dioxide in order to transform the carbon dioxide into oxygen and water.
A mesocosm is any outdoors experimental system that examines the natural environment that is
brought under controlled conditions. It is used to model a larger ecosystem. (Oxford Journals)
Mesocosms help scientists as they allow a more accurate prediction of previously unpredictable
events. (What is a Mesocosm) Mesocosms give scientists the opportunity to investigate the reaction of
organisms to environmental change and have been used in experimental ecology since the early 20th
century. They have been used for almost over a 100 years, but just recently became significant as a
way of investigating certain ecological ideas. Mesocosms became more significant due to the study of
climate change, since the late 90s. Through mesocosms, scientists are

Humanitarian Assistance In Guatemala
Despite significant developments in the health of the population, Guatemala continues to experience
an abundance of health related issues such as communicable diseases, sever undernutrition and
maternal mortality, in addition to an increase of non communicable diseases and injuries due to factors
such as violence or vehicle collisions (World Health Organizations, 2014). The United States and
Guatemala are on a continuing partnership with the initiative to support Guatemala by improving the
level of food security, preventing HIV/AIDS, eliminating the impact of climate change, promoting
health, and educational changes (Davis, 2016). From March to May 2016, the U.S. Army Southern

policy in the Western Hemisphere emphasizes a high precedence on human rights, social inclusion,
and economic opportunity (Guatemalan Relations). In 1992, the National Military Strategy was
created to with the intent of forward presence, which means that regardless of the lack of threat, the
U.S endures to have commitments to their foreign allies during peace time (Sutton, 1992). One of the
essential roles for the US Armed forces in forward presence missions is humanitarian assistance.
Humanitarian nation assistance is defined by the type of support provided to support a nation to
promote its own viable development and progress of receptive organizations. The intent of
humanitarian nation assistance is to help provide long term stability, diverse governments, sustainable
economies, and development for systematic amendments. The nation assistance developments are
conducted at the request of the host nation and are included in the U.S. ambassador s entire country
plan. Afflicted by poverty and minimal health care resources, Guatemala is a nation in Central
America with significant high disease burden prevalence. At the request of the Guatemalan
government, the U.S Department of Defense agreed to conduct humanitarian assistance in Guatemala
by identifying the need to improve food security, nutrition, health, and education of their local
population to build a stable nation. In response to Guatemalan government request, the US
Ambassador identifies the most necessitated areas, which is generally a rural, underprivileged area
that is need of humanitarian assistance. Both countries agreed to work alongside of each other through
the Beyond the Horizon mission, which would provide humanitarian aid through construction
developments and medical care events. The Army South Command invested $10 million dollars
throughout the mission, and Guatemala invested about $130,500 (Guatemalan Armed Forces, 2016).

The Importance Of Wildfires In The United States
Imagine a single ember from a cigarette causing one million acres to burn in the United States alone!
Because of the intensity of these fires, and the amount of acres burned, the United States is now
approximately seven billion dollars more debt. Casualties and injuries occur with wildfires along with
seventy three percent of the houses and buildings in the vicinity being charred or destroyed. Wildfires
are a very under acknowledged natural disaster that is often under estimated. Wildfires can often rage
on for day, weeks, months, even years. Every year, nearly 35,000 emergency services risk their lives
fighting fires, and of that 35,000 people, 65 of the firefighters died. With all of these deaths, what can

the arts in Italian Renaissance Essay
The Italian Renaissance was a very difficult time period in European history. The
arts were flourishing, while the city states in Italy fought bloody battles with each other
and within themselves. Bribery and murder were not uncommon tools for men to use
when they wanted power. Meanwhile those same rulers patronized the arts a great deal
and they would commission the best artistic minds of the time to build, design and paint
their palaces and churches and later on their own portraits and everyday paraphernalia.
In the beginning of Renaissance the artists, as well as the princes, were mostly
interested in religious themes, mostly from the New Testament. They all believed that if

By the 16th century the profession of the artist was becoming fashionable. In the
15th century it was still unheard of the artists mingling with the powerful and the rich.
There were very few masters, who were considered brilliant, so there was practically no
competition between them. One person could paint the same monastery or church for
years, adding just a little personal variation to the story and the style of the painting. It
was becoming fashionable for an artist to not only do his work at a royal court but also be
associated with that court. Many city states claimed ownership of the brilliant minds that
worked there. Also, individualism was becoming an important aspect of people s lives.
Any individual who exhibited some sort of talent could easily find a sponsor among rich
neighbors . Mantegna was a shepherd in Padua until someone discovered him and he
became a court painter at Mantua. Monetary rewards were also very important to artists.
Rivalry between the artists challenged them to go to new and better levels and the more
money they received the harder they tried. Many artists, such as Bruneleleschi, Uccello or
Piero della Franesca started experimenting with perspective. After that many lesser
known artists started emulating them and

Six Decisions That Will Change Your Life
Six Decisions that Will Change Your Life: Mature
John 4:7 15
This week is the third week of our sermon series that accompanies our small group series based on
Tom Berlin s book 6 Decisions That Will Change Your Life. While we all make many decisions each
day, these are 6 monumental decisions of our Christian journey. The first week we heard about the
Decision to Follow, and last week it was the Decision for a New Life. This week we will discover
what it means to make the Decision to Mature. Let us pray and begin. Prayer. Our scripture reading
this morning opens with a Samaritan woman, Jesus, and a well. When this woman approaches the
well, Jesus asks for her to give him a drink. At this request the woman is taken aback. It was
unprecedented for a Jewish man to be asking her for anything. First of all, this woman was a
Samaritan. The Samaritans and the Jews schismed after disagreeing on the proper place of worship. A
feud that even scripture felt the need to clarify by explaining in verse 9 Jews do not share things in
common with Samaritans. Second, she was meeting Jesus at the well alone. Which alludes to her
being unclean, or impure, in some way that would prevent her from getting water when all of the other
women do. Jesus approaching HER at all is startling to her, if not utterly confusing. Yet still, Jesus
persists, saying if you only knew who I am and the gift that is before you. If you only knew, then you
would ask for a drink and be given living water. And the

Occipital Lobe Case Study
1. The occipital lobe is responsible for allowing visual stimulus to be understood by the mammals
experiencing it. It can be argued that by lesioning the occipital lobe within the pigeon, she is impairing
the lobe and therefore, the pigeon would be unable to determine a moving stimulus. In turn, one could
say that the occipital lobe does play a role in motion detection, as motion detection is visually
observed. However, this experiment doesn t necessarily draw one solid conclusion for whether or not
the occipital lobe is responsible for motion detection. There are many pathways within the brain that
are interconnected and complex. It seems too black and white to conclude that the occipital lobe is the
main region of the brain responsible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One method that could be used to expand on her research could be to try the stereotaxic apparatus. A
lesion within the occipital lobe could be created with this method on several different types of
mammals. This would be highly important to test. The experiment had only been tested on a pigeon.
The brain of the pigeon has a different structure than the brain of other mammals. In order to make a
fair conclusion, more mammals with different brain structures should be considered. This method
would also allow for more testing control within the specific brain region, leading me to believe that
the results would be more accurate due to the mapping of the stereotaxic atlas. Another testing method
to consider could be the use of a scanning electron microscope. This microscope would create a highly
detailed three dimensional image of the brain. Allowing for the investigator to perceive more accurate
result depictions through the changing results of the images within different mammal brain structures.
First, the investigator could take an image of the brain with the microscope before the lesion was
created, and then proceed to take a picture after the lesion was created. The occipital lobe could be
examined more in depth through fine

Habitat Mitigation Case Study
4. In what ways do stakeholders involved in habitat mitigation interact? The major stakeholders
involved in habitat mitigation include non governmental organization and specifically, non profit
environmental organizations, the government and governmental organizations, and the public. Non
profit organizations often rely on the public as a workforce source. For Friends of the Alameda
Wildlife Reserve, the public plays a key role in monitoring. Monitoring is an essential aspect of
habitat mitigation. During the breeding season, it is important to know what risks California least terns

Because government organizations are the stakeholders with the majority of power, they play a pivotal
role in conservation efforts. The site at Alameda Point has been greatly influenced by the government
and government organizations. The United States Navy, which owned the property at Alameda Point
until 1992, had participated in tern conservation. However, the Navy hindered the efforts to make the
site into a wildlife refuge, by refusing to transfer the site to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The
transfer refusal was mainly about site contaminants, which the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service did not
want to accept responsibility for due to the fact that the Navy has a much larger budget than the Fish
and Wildlife Service. The Navy later solicited the Department of Veterans Affairs, who needed
modernized services for veterans in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the transfer occurred in June of
2014. This resulted in 512 acres being set aside as a wildlife reserve, but without the protection that a
national wildlife refuge entails (Feeney, pers comm, 2015). Although government organizations may
serve to hinder conservation efforts, they can also play a major role in collaborating with non profit
organizations. In the South Bay seventy five percent of the land that Snowy Plovers inhabit are owned
and operated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and twenty percent is owned and

Long s Journey Into Night

interactions with one another, helps the reader decipher the main conflicts and resolutions of the story.
In the plays Long Days Journey into Night by Eugene O neill and Death of a Salesman by Arthur
Miller, father son relationships are perceived as a messy affair, full of unrealistic expectations,
disappointment, resentment, and regret. These two plays portray the worst in the relationship between
father and son. Both plays show how painful events can cause family members to harbor resentment

This is a factor that causes discord between even the most harmonious families. At one point in Long
Days Journey into Night, Tyrone angrily shouts, You ve both flouted the faith you were born and

destruction! (Act II. Scene II) Tyrone displays his bitterness throughout the novel for the fact that his

argument occurs in Death of a Salesman when Willy Loman is angry at his son Biff for not wanting to

what their sons should become in life and what their beliefs should be, unfortunately, however, their
sons don t agree with their ideas for them and if anything it pushes them farther away. The theme of
conflicting ideas as to what the American dream is is also presented in Death of a Salesman. Willy

Political Hegemony In Canada
Political hegemony, a process by which the state exercises its power at a variety of levels, is
particularly important when studying women and gender because the construction of the state is
dependent upon its ability to integrate and control its citizens. In Sisters or Strangers? the collection of
essays explores numerous ways in which the British and then Canadian state integrated and controlled
its diverse population. Using three chapters, Sisterhood versus Discrimination: Being a Black African
Francophone Immigrant Woman in Montreal and Toronto by Gertrude Mianda, Jell O Salads, One
Stop Shopping, and Maria the Homemaker: The Gender Politics of Food by Franca Iacovetta and
Valerie J. Korinek, and Turning Strangers into Sisters? Missionaries and Colonization in Upper
Canada by Cecilia Morgan, in addition to class discussions, I will address who the state is interested in
controlling, how they go about doing this, how the concept of gender is employed within this process,
and how women have resisted these hegemonic processes.
Firstly, Gertrude Mianda s chapter examines black immigrant African women s experiences in relation
to gender norms and the domestic sphere in Canada. Within this chapter, Mianda notes how the state
utilized a number of strategies in controlling these black immigrant women. For instance, the
percentages of African immigrants to Canada has increased over the decades (Mianda 268), and, [l]ike

Manetho s Legitimacy Of Thutmose III
The understanding of Egyptian history has been greatly influenced by the work of Manetho, a
historian and priest who lived in Egypt around 300 BC who organized the country s history. He
created 30 Dynasties to divide history under the ruling pharaohs and their related royal families. The
most influential and important period of Egyptian history is labeled the New Kingdom, covering the

Competition heated up as department stores, particularly J.C. Penny Corporation, Inc. and specialty
apparel stores improved their performances. According to the article of Funding Universe, Kohl s was
faced with fierce competition in California from stores such as, Mervyns and Macy West. Some
analysts contended the big push into the Golden State had distracted management, and indeed the
company suffered from excess inventory, forcing it to discount heavily, which dented profits. Some

Statistics And Its Impact On The Quality Of Data
Statistics is defined as a branch of mathematics used to analyze, explain summarize as well as
interpret what we observe in order to make sense or meaning of our observations. Every day in life we
encounter information that originates from diverse forms and ways. This means that to make this
information to have sense, there is the need to use statistics. However, due to its focus and empirical
on applications, statistics is classically considered a distinctive mathematical science rather than a
branch of mathematics (Chance et al, 2005). Thus, some tasks a statistician use are less mathematical;
for instance, making sure data collection is carried out in a manner that yields valid conclusions,
reporting results, or coding data in ways understandable to the users. Statistics is known to improve
the quality of data by fashioning specific survey samples and experiment designs. It also offers tools
used to predict and forecasting the use of data as well as statistical models. It is applicable in many
academic fields that include business, government, social and natural sciences.
Descriptive statistics are entirely used to describe the sample under study. They are used basically to
describe the fundamental characteristics of a given data. They offer simple summaries concerning the
measures and the samples. When utilized together with simple graphics study, they form the heart of
practically each quantitative study of data. This means that descriptive statistics utilized both

Descriptive Essay On A Summer Camp
Bill come on time to go! Tom s mom screamed. Every summer Tom has to go to summer camp. His
parents are traveling all the time because of work. Bill really doesn t like to go, he s not the athletic
type. Tom does not have a lot of friends and keeps to himself. As bill walks down the stairs to the car
he feels a little overwhelmed. Bill has gone to the camp three summers in a row and feels weirded out
when he s near the woods. The camp counselors don t like it when kids go to the woods by
themselves, apparently kids have disappeared but the counselors don t talk about it too much.
The car ride there is long. To get there you have to go far from town. You could see huge trees
swaying back and forth as you pass by, it s a little creepy. Bill arrived to the eerie camp, he saw all the
kids with their parents trying to check in and get to know the grounds. The car came to a stop and Bill
and his mom got out the car. It was a long ride there so it took Bill a minute to stretch out. Bill and his
mom walk up to the front desk, there was a young man at the desk looked like he was not in a good
mood. The man began to speak Hello and welcome to camp, do you need a room? the man said
angrily. Um yes please. Bill s mom said, but Bill zoend out the rest of the conversation. Bill I have to

and left.
Bill walked through the huge camp and looked for his room number. Bill has been at the camp
multiply times so it was not hard to find. 122 must be mine room Bill said out loud. The room was not
in the best condition, moss was on the outside and the grass was a little dead. Bill walk up slowly to
the door and knocked three times, Hello is anyone home. You usually get a room mate. Come in! the
other person yelled from inside. Great, Bill was hoping no one would be home. Bill opened the
creaking door slowly. When he entered he saw a boy around 14 his age sitting on one of the two beds.
Hi my names Tom, what s your name? The boy said. I m Bill. Bill does not have friends and he keeps

Hypocrisy In Tom Sawyer Finn
Even if twain is cutting in his dismissive attitude toward abstract social causes that involve hypocrisy,
he sees it as an inevitable and condonable aspect of life in a community. Adults fail to follow through
on their word regarding the several adventures Tom undertakes that involve his leaving the village. In
running away to Jackson s Island, getting lost in the cave, and tracking down Injun Joe s treasure, Tom
and his friends break serious rules, yet in each case the villagers welcome the children home again
without punishing them. The adults can hardly be condemned for their hypocrisy in desiring the
children s safety, which underscores Twain s belief in the ultimate goodness of community. The

Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Beard
Growing a beard is something every boy looks forward to. The prospect of standing in front of a
mirror and trimming it into whatever shape you like is priceless. But not everyone ends up with a
smoothly shaven face. For some people, shaving becomes a daily nightmare. There are several ways
you can trim your beard. You could either use a simple pair of scissors, a regular razor or a beard
trimmer. With scissors, you will take more time and might end up with an uneven looking beard. And
if you opt for a razor, you are at high risk of getting razor burns or cuts. If you are looking for a
perfectly clean trim, then a trimming machine is the best choice. Simply because with it, you will
never suffer razor burn or cuts and nicks. There are lots of beard trimmers out there but none is better
than the Panasonic ER224S.
Panasonic ER224S review
Shaving is a huge deal. So it s nice to see that someone out there is thinking about our beard problems.
I haven t had a chance to put it to the test but if you take a look at some online reviews of those who

user reviews.

If more than 65% of the reviews are positive, then you have nothing to worry about. The Panasonic
beard trimmer had a 7.5 rating which is pretty good. As for the delicate guide comb, there is a way you
could avoid damaging your trimmer. If you want to remove the guard, then set the trimmer to its
maximum comb setting then take it off. You will use less force and reduce risk of breaking. Some of

Assessment
For a social worker using the behavior modification model the client system is emphasized.
Behavioral modification in general concentrates on the client s identified behaviors that are of interest
to change. The mezzo system is an area of focus seeing that the targeted behavior could be a response
to the environment and other surroundings. The immediate conditions (reinforcements in the
environment) contribute to the current situation (maladaptive behavior). If the behavior is abnormal
and is negatively effecting client functioning it is important to further explore. Although, past history
can play a part in determining current factors involved in the behavior (Behavior Modification, n.d.).
As mentioned previously client functioning is of concern for behavior modification during assessment.
Additionally, client functioning in context or clients functioning in each situation is another area of
focus. When does, the targeted behavior occur and when does it not is of interest when beginning the
assessment. Along with that the social worker is curious to know if there is a specific pattern that is
tied to the behavior. Within each environment, how the client behaves and how the client is influenced
is a emphasized during assessment. A detailed data collection of the behavior is needed, such as
frequency, duration, and intensity (Sheafor Horejsi, 2012). To do this the social worker could use self
reports, role playing, and information from family and friends

The Russian Revolution was caused by many things. Some of the reasons are poverty, hunger, and
hard labor. Some reasons may look more important than others, but I believe these reasons are just as
important as any other reason. Poverty, hunger, and hard labor are big reasons why there was Russian
Revolution. Poverty was a big part of the Russian Revolution. According to Document 1, ... peasants
do not have enough allotment land, and cannot during the year feed themselves, clothe themselves,

Comparing Dantes Inferno And Chaucer s Canterbury Tales
Dante s Inferno and Chaucer s Canterbury Tales are both tremendously significant literary works that
are still relevant to this present day. Dante s Inferno depicts one pilgrim being led into the depths of
Hell at the hands of a guide named Virgil. As the two descend into Hell, it becomes apparent that
Dante has strong religious opinions that influence his placement of several individuals into the various
levels of Hell. One thing he makes obvious in his works is that hypocrisy and fraudulence are
revolting characteristics. This piece of literature has the tone of darkness and warnings. Because Dante
was exiled from his native country of Florence by people who possessed these characteristics, it only
seems fair that these people have their own special places in Hell. Chaucer s Canterbury Tales,
however, tells many pilgrim s tales as a means to pass time during their voyage to Canterbury. The tale
has a lighter tone to it, yet still has some of the same views and convictions as Dante s; such as the
disapproval of hypocrites and the drawing attention to fraudulent religious figures. Chaucer s tale has
a slightly more entertaining means of delivering a message while ... Show more content on

Analysis Of The Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock
The Love Song of T.S Eliot
In The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock the reader can clearly understand that T.S Eliot is
straightforward as one can get within a poem. In the beginning of the poem, one can infer that
Prufrock is being used as a facade to convey Eliot s inner self who is an introvert that doesn t quite fit
in with the modern day society. Prufrock sees his personal life as a burden that he cannot mend while
he tries to conform into the middle class society that everyone views as pristine. Meanwhile, being
scrutinized by others he has also deemed himself as weak and unworthy of life. We are choosing to
shed light on Eliot s inadequate personal life and on how others perceive him as well as how he
perceives himself, within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In college Eliot met the love of his life and he soon married Vivien Haigh Wood. This would make
Eliot a new person in the way he would write and view the world. He self trained himself to make his
writing more modern in efforts to reach a bigger crowd (Bush). These efforts would eventually pay off
with writings like Ulysses, The Wasteland, and The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. These writings
would give T.S Eliot the strength to quit his job in a local bank and live off the success of his writings.
Eliot used his life struggles as his inspiration to create his successful writings just like how he used it
to create Prufrock in The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock . T.S Eliot uses his poem as an outlet to
express what he has experienced throughout his personal life through Prufrock. In his poem, he makes
the character, Prufrock, becomes very judgmental on himself since Eliot has encountered many self
degrading life lessons. Prufrock believes that his worthlessness terminates his chances of any woman
falling in love him and which is the cause of his hesitance to approach women. Eliot is the same way
since he got his heartbroken by his first wife, Vivienne Haigh wood Eliot. Eliot s habitable
tentativeness has always restrained him from being with a woman and what Vivienne does to him
proves why he was and now always will be skeptical to be with a woman. A man by the name of

A Comparison Between King Lear and Oedipus
King Lear Comparison
A tragedy is not only an imitation of life in general but an imitation of an action, as Aristotle defined
his ideas in the Poetics, which presents Oedipus as an ultimate tragic hero. There is a obvious link
between the two characters in that blindness both literal and metaphorical is a strong theme in the
stories.
Issues of self recognition and self knowledge are significant for Oedipus as well as King Lear. For
Aristotle, Reversal, Recognition and Suffering are key elements in a complex tragedy. The human
instinct to seek knowledge of and to know an individual s character is essential to understand their
actions (Aristotle, 1 49). King Lear and King Oedipus find that self recognition and self knowledge ...

Thebes high esteem for Oedipus is shown through the Chorus until the bitter end of the play. In the
beginning of the play King Oedipus is a person of vast self assurance. This character attribute is
demonstrated in his willingness to take the full responsibility for dealing with the crisis, the plague.
King Oedipus feels certain that he will also manage this crisis as he has done before with the riddle of
the sphinx. He feels so self assure that he even thinks he is able to trick the oracle and the gods by
simply fleeing Corinth. But this is a big miscalculation as the play shows. The outline in the story of
Oedipus s self discovery begins when he starts to solve the second riddle, the riddle of Laius death.
During this solving Oedipus character changes from an honour man to a fearful, condemned man by
his tragic fate in the end. The changing of the character is accompanied by the changing of the riddle:
the question Who is the murderer of Laius? changes to Who am I? Aristotle in his Poetics discusses
this reversal when he speaks of a change of the action into the opposite (Aristotle, 18). As the tragedy
moves on, finding the truth for Oedipus becomes an obsession. The dispute between Teiresias and
Oedipus demonstrates that Oedipus does not even take the possibility of involvement in something
bad into consideration. Teiresias, after he has been provoked,

Guilt In Macbeth And The Tell-Tale Heart
Guilt is a feeling that everyone is familiar with. The intensity and shame that comes with guilt is
stronger than anything a person can consciously convey. In the play The Tragedy of Macbeth by
William Shakespeare and in the short story The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe, guilt plays an
exceedingly big role in the life of two main characters; Lady Macbeth and the narrator. No matter
what is done, guilt is impossible to avoid, and will engulf the state of mind leading to an inexorable
downfall. Firstly, the two characters are in denial after the crime they committed, and they try to
comfort themselves by not accepting the truth. Secondly, they are extremely paranoid and they start to

Role Of Political Parties In America
Jamaica, is a member of the British Commonwealth, and has a bicameral parliamentary legislative

and the sixty member elected House of Representatives. The judicial branch is defined by the supreme
court and several layers of lower courts. The two major parties are the People s National Party (PNP);
which would be the democratic party in America, and the Jamaica Labor Party (JLP), which would be
the republican party. Then there are many unions that govern the politicians. They include: trade

  • 2. The Bronze And Iron Age Essay Classics Essay Question: 1 What Can Homer tell us about the Bronze and Iron Age The Bronze and Iron Ages were 2 of the main periods in Greek History and Homer can tell us a lot about them. The Bronze Age was all about mixing copper with tin or arsenic to bronze hence it is called the Bronze Age. The Iron Age was when the whole of the east Mediterranean was in crisis. In central Anatolia, the collapse of the Hitties opened the gates to invaders who overran the country. Firstly, let s talk about Homer a lot of the works that he wrote were set in the Bronze Age and Iron Age. Homer is the first known European poet and of such importance to the Greeks. Homer became the basis for Greek education and is still widely read in high schools and universities today. He is the best primary source for knowing what the Greeks were thinking in the eighth century B.C. as they fought each other and sailed across dangerous seas to found new city states in alien lands. Greeks believe that that heroic society described by Homer flourished at a time corresponding to the 13th or early 12th century in our chronology. Homers greatest works are the Iliad and Odyssey. The both tell the story of heroes trying to survive their way through war and other things. Here is just an example of Homer s poetry He cast on the fire bronze which is weariness, and tin with it and valuable gold and silver and thereafter set forth upon its standard the great anvil, and gripped . During this his brother Jarl Osbjorn and his fleet had been bought off, King Swein of Denmark and his new fleet had not. What happened during 1070 and 1071 could be consider fact as it could legend. It is know that William made two different attempts both unsuccessful, either in person or through a lieutenant to take Isle Ely where Hereward and his forces were based. We also know that Hereward did not fear to pay for his Danish allies. Hereward paid the Danish to sack the Peterborough and its Cathedral, which was now controlled by the Norman Bishop. What it is still up to debate is how thing exact happenings, nor the sequence of events. Eventually Swein, maybe seeing himself in a no win situation, gave the offer to be paid off. The Normans soon took Ely after the betrayal of the local monks secret causeways though the Fens that would allow an army to access the isle. If Columbus had a global positioning system, GPS, sea navigation would be much easier, considering the use of satellite technology to hone into the exact location of the Americas. This would ease the travels and judge which currents to ride on. If Columbus had a GPS he could had type in Asia and would had been much easier. A GPS would had probably made the trip to Asia easy and faster. If they had a GPS they would had probably had less stroms. If Columbus had a GPS he would had never want to the Bahamas. A global positioning system would had been the best technology for the trip to Asia. Also, with the addition of GPS, Columbus could easily locate any destination and determine the amount of time needed to get there. With this knowledge, he could settle many more lands than just America. Columbus could gain control of any unclaimed territory. Columbus could have made his journey much easier by turning it into a flight instead of a voyage. The Concorde is the fastest passenger plane in the world, reaching an astonishing 700 miles an hour. This plane could easily carry all of Columbus s crew. This would also shorten the trip down to around three hours at most and provide a much more comfortable ride. As this plane relied on jet fuel, there would also be the invention of today s modern aircraft, which would not only affect the people in Portugal, but in other civilizations too, such as the peoples of Britain, the Dutch, and the Spaniards. With the addition of a plane there also led to a place where all materials could be easily kept safe and did not leak. On the Santà Maria, food was easily perishable. Because of the high pressure surrounding the plane and less oxygen, food did not perish easily. Planes also came at another advantage, and that was the emptiness of the sky at the time. No other planes were present, so air travel would be optimal for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Creating A Sustainable Terrestrial Ecosystem Within A... Mesocosm Lab Exploration Research Question: With the plants chosen, is it possible to create a sustainable terrestrial ecosystem within a sealed glass jar? Background Information The purpose of this experiment is to become familiar with how an ecosystem works, and discover the most sustainable kind of ecosystem. Based on knowing how an ecosystem works, predictions have been made that state if a terrestrial mesocosm is sealed for four weeks with plants inside, it can continue to live and thrive sealed from the outside environment because the plants will gain their moisture from the humidity left in the sealed jar. The plants will use photosynthesis and carbon dioxide in order to transform the carbon dioxide into oxygen and water. A mesocosm is any outdoors experimental system that examines the natural environment that is brought under controlled conditions. It is used to model a larger ecosystem. (Oxford Journals) Mesocosms help scientists as they allow a more accurate prediction of previously unpredictable events. (What is a Mesocosm) Mesocosms give scientists the opportunity to investigate the reaction of organisms to environmental change and have been used in experimental ecology since the early 20th century. They have been used for almost over a 100 years, but just recently became significant as a way of investigating certain ecological ideas. Mesocosms became more significant due to the study of climate change, since the late 90s. Through mesocosms, scientists are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The arts were flourishing, while the city states in Italy fought bloody battles with each other and within themselves. Meanwhile those same rulers patronized the arts a great deal and they would commission the best artistic minds of the time to build, design and paint their palaces and churches and later on their own portraits and everyday paraphernalia. There were very few masters, who were considered brilliant, so there was practically no competition between them. One person could paint the same monastery or church for years, adding just a little personal variation to the story and the style of the painting. It was becoming fashionable for an artist to not only do his work at a royal court but also be associated with that court. Many city states claimed ownership of the brilliant minds that worked there. • 11. Six Decisions That Will Change Your Life Six Decisions that Will Change Your Life: Mature John 4:7 15 This week is the third week of our sermon series that accompanies our small group series based on Tom Berlin s book 6 Decisions That Will Change Your Life. While we all make many decisions each day, these are 6 monumental decisions of our Christian journey. The first week we heard about the Decision to Follow, and last week it was the Decision for a New Life. This week we will discover what it means to make the Decision to Mature. Let us pray and begin. Prayer. Our scripture reading this morning opens with a Samaritan woman, Jesus, and a well. When this woman approaches the well, Jesus asks for her to give him a drink. At this request the woman is taken aback. It was unprecedented for a Jewish man to be asking her for anything. First of all, this woman was a Samaritan. The Samaritans and the Jews schismed after disagreeing on the proper place of worship. A feud that even scripture felt the need to clarify by explaining in verse 9 Jews do not share things in common with Samaritans. Second, she was meeting Jesus at the well alone. Which alludes to her being unclean, or impure, in some way that would prevent her from getting water when all of the other women do. Jesus approaching HER at all is startling to her, if not utterly confusing. Yet still, Jesus persists, saying if you only knew who I am and the gift that is before you. If you only knew, then you would ask for a drink and be given living water. And the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It can be argued that by lesioning the occipital lobe within the pigeon, she is impairing the lobe and therefore, the pigeon would be unable to determine a moving stimulus. In turn, one could say that the occipital lobe does play a role in motion detection, as motion detection is visually observed. However, this experiment doesn t necessarily draw one solid conclusion for whether or not the occipital lobe is responsible for motion detection. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One method that could be used to expand on her research could be to try the stereotaxic apparatus. A lesion within the occipital lobe could be created with this method on several different types of mammals. This would be highly important to test. The experiment had only been tested on a pigeon. The brain of the pigeon has a different structure than the brain of other mammals. In order to make a fair conclusion, more mammals with different brain structures should be considered. This method would also allow for more testing control within the specific brain region, leading me to believe that the results would be more accurate due to the mapping of the stereotaxic atlas. Another testing method to consider could be the use of a scanning electron microscope. This microscope would create a highly detailed three dimensional image of the brain. Allowing for the investigator to perceive more accurate result depictions through the changing results of the images within different mammal brain structures. First, the investigator could take an image of the brain with the microscope before the lesion was created, and then proceed to take a picture after the lesion was created. Because government organizations are the stakeholders with the majority of power, they play a pivotal role in conservation efforts. The site at Alameda Point has been greatly influenced by the government and government organizations. The United States Navy, which owned the property at Alameda Point until 1992, had participated in tern conservation. However, the Navy hindered the efforts to make the site into a wildlife refuge, by refusing to transfer the site to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The transfer refusal was mainly about site contaminants, which the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service did not want to accept responsibility for due to the fact that the Navy has a much larger budget than the Fish and Wildlife Service. The Navy later solicited the Department of Veterans Affairs, who needed modernized services for veterans in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the transfer occurred in June of 2014. This resulted in 512 acres being set aside as a wildlife reserve, but without the protection that a national wildlife refuge entails (Feeney, pers comm, 2015). Political Hegemony In Canada Political hegemony, a process by which the state exercises its power at a variety of levels, is particularly important when studying women and gender because the construction of the state is dependent upon its ability to integrate and control its citizens. In Sisters or Strangers? the collection of essays explores numerous ways in which the British and then Canadian state integrated and controlled its diverse population. Using three chapters, Sisterhood versus Discrimination: Being a Black African Francophone Immigrant Woman in Montreal and Toronto by Gertrude Mianda, Jell O Salads, One Stop Shopping, and Maria the Homemaker: The Gender Politics of Food by Franca Iacovetta and Valerie J. Missionaries and Colonization in Upper Canada by Cecilia Morgan, in addition to class discussions, I will address who the state is interested in controlling, how they go about doing this, how the concept of gender is employed within this process, and how women have resisted these hegemonic processes. Firstly, Gertrude Mianda s chapter examines black immigrant African women s experiences in relation to gender norms and the domestic sphere in Canada. Within this chapter, Mianda notes how the state utilized a number of strategies in controlling these black immigrant women. For instance, the percentages of African immigrants to Canada has increased over the decades (Mianda 268), and, [l]ike most permanent migrants, Africans who establish themselves ... Comparing Dantes Inferno And Chaucer s Canterbury Tales Dante s Inferno and Chaucer s Canterbury Tales are both tremendously significant literary works that are still relevant to this present day. Dante s Inferno depicts one pilgrim being led into the depths of Hell at the hands of a guide named Virgil.
