Analysis Of The Movie Butterfield Stars Essay
Butterfield stars as Bruno, a curious, stubborn eight year old whose family is relocated to the
countryside when his father receives a new job as a head member of the Nazi party, working for
the Auschwitz Birkenau concentration camp. Lonely and frustrated from having no one his
own age to talk to, Bruno explores past the limits of his backyard. He comes across a barbed
wire fence, with a young boy named Schmuel (played by Scanlon) on the other side wearing
what Bruno perceives to be striped pajamas. The two boys strike up a friendship through the
fence, with Bruno coming to visit Shmuel almost daily. Neither boy grasps that Schmuel is in a
death camp, and when Schmuel confesses to Bruno that he is Jewish, Bruno doesn t not seem to
understand why that matters. Curious as to what really lies on the other side of the fence, Bruno
and Schmuel plot for him to sneak into the camp, which leads to the demise of both of them. The
film is more emotion based rather than fact based, in an attempt to appeal to the audiences
symphonies rather than instruct them on a historical event. It has been criticized for its accuracy,
specifically pertaining to the ages of the boys. Many critics claim that boys as young as Schmuel
would never have been at Auschwitz, because all children too young to work were gassed upon
arrival. Others argue that the film is symbol of innocence, and the two boys reflect how children
are able to look past each other s differences easier than adults. Critics also

Nt1310 Unit 3 Assignment 1 Bridge
Bridge:
Bridge is a simple device that aids in interconnecting similar LAN s between local area networks
that use identical protocols for the physical and data link layers in accordance with the IEEE
802.3 standards. As the devices connected to the bridge use the same protocols, the amount of
processing required is minimal. Nowadays, routers are used more commonly to interconnect LAN
s as bridges are Layer 2 devices and pose almost no security while the router is a Layer 3 device and
offers better Data Security.
Routers:
Paraphrasing (Stallings, 2007) the function of routers is to get the packet to a destination network.
The router reads the header created by the Network Layer of the protocol stack on the source
computer. The router can be configured to filter by protocol, source... Show more content on

Switch:
According to (Burke, 2004),A switch is a multiport bridge. When a switch receives a frame (A
data packet with address and other protocol information embedded), it amplifies the signal, looks
at the MAC address to determine which port should retransmit the frame to get it to the intended
network device and sends it to that port. The switch can be configured to disconnect any attached
device, to discard frames intended for an attached device, to send frames with a specific hardware
address to another hardware address instead and to copy a frame to a mirror port which can send it
to an attached traffic monitor.
Network Interface Card:
Every Computer that connects to a network must have a Network Interface Card (NIC). Most new
Computers have them built into the motherboard. It has one or sometimes more RJ45 socket(s)
that connect to a modem. The older and deprecated version used to have RJ11 sockets to connect
to the network. Due to it being extremely vulnerable to phreaking and war dialing, it has now been

Harry Erskine Series Essay
The Harry Erskine series is a set of novels by renowned British horror novelist Graham
Masterton. Given that Graham dabs in so many other genres and has many other series under
his belt, the publication of the six novels in the series has been sporadic. That being said the bulk
of the novels have been published between 1976 and 2009. The lead character in the series is the
self styled psychic Harry Erskine. When we first come across the enigmatic Erskine, he is a
shaman earning his living through providing psychic reading to an assortment of old rich ladies in
New York City. Nonetheless, given the high demand for his services, he frequently travels to other
cities on the Eastern seaboard such as Miami. Harry Erskine had been skeptical of the... Show more

one of the best fiction novels that you could ever read. Masterton creates a brilliant supernatural
threat, lovable, memorable characters, and fantastic pacing that provides an ever increasing sense
of dread. The novels provide some good descriptions where you just need them and are vague

most frightening of North American demons. With such a formidable foe, you are left wondering

Andromeda Constellation
The constellation of Andromeda is pretty interesting. Not only does it share it s name with the
galaxy closest to the Milky Way, it is also one of the 48 constellations listed by the Greco Roman
astronomer, Ptolemy. It is said that this constellation is ten times the size of Crux, the smallest
constellation, and a little over half the size of Hydra, the largest constellation. The brightest of
Andromeda s stars, Alpha Andromedae a binary star is also shared by the constellation Pegasus.
Andromeda is best viewed in the month of November, North of the 40В° South latitude. The story

Describe How The Design Of Respiratory System Facilitates...
DESCRIBE HOW THE DESIGN OF RESPIRATORY SYSTEM FACILITATES GAS
EXCHANGE?
SID:
Process of respiration involves supply of oxygen to blood cells (oxygen intake) and excretion of
carbon dioxide and other waste (CO2 excretion). Purified blood is carried to all parts of the body
by blood vessels in order to achieve gaseous exchange at cell level. This process is carried out
through a complex system called Respiratory System. Organs which comprise respiratory system
include mouth, nasal passage, glottis, trachea, larynx, pharynx, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli and
last but not the least lungs.
In the following lines, we ll discuss in details how the structures of respiratory system accomplish
exchange of gases.
The upper respiratory tract comprises those organs that bring the air in and lower respiratory tract
comprises those parts that process the air. Upper respiratory tract starts from the nose and the
mouth. They enable the air to enter through external nares (nostrils). Behind the nostrils there are
little shelves of bone called nasal conchae (superior, middle and inferior). They divide the nasal
cavity into thin passages called meatuses. (Jahangir, 2015). Surface areas of nasal conchae creates
turbulence, forcing the air to get bounced in the nasal cavity and increase the surface area of these
cavities, thus allowing the mucus to trap the dirt, bacteria and enable only warm, clean and moist
air as it passes down to the lungs. (Rogers, 2012)

Compare And Contrast Spencer And Social Darwinism
Social Darwinism is a belief, popular in the late Victorian era in England, America, and elsewhere,
which states that the strongest or fittest should survive and flourish in society, while the weak and
unfit should be allowed to die. The theory was chiefly expounded by Herbert Spencer, whose
ethical philosophies always held an elitist view and received a boost from the application of
Darwinian ideas such as adaptation and natural selection.
Spencer and Social Darwinism
Herbert Spencer, the father of Social Darwinism as an ethical theory, was thinking in terms of
elitist, might makes right sorts of views long before Darwin published his theory. However,
Spencer quickly adapted Darwinian ideas to his own ethical theories. The concept of adaptation ...

In fact, the early Social Darwinists, who regarded the theory as a logical extension of laissez faire
capitalism, would have been appalled at the use of the concept to promote state run eugenics
programs.
Though its moral basis is now generally opposed, Social Darwinism did have some favorable
effects. Belief in Social Darwinism tended to discourage wanton handouts to the poor, favoring
instead providing resources for the fittest of all walks of life to use, or choosing specific, genuinely
deserving people as recipients of help and support. Some major capitalists, such as Andrew
Carnegie, combined philanthropy with Social Darwinism; he used his vast fortune to set up
hundreds of libraries and other public institutions, including a university, for the benefit of those
who would choose to avail themselves of such resources. He opposed direct and indiscriminate
handouts to the poor because he felt that this favored the undeserving and the deserving person

Anger In Speak
Laurie Halse Anderosn has written a book which is considered as a trauma novel speak .
Usually anger is a phase that begins with madness and ends with regret, but in this book anger
will be tackled in different way, Melinda s anger starts with silence and ends with speaking. In
other words it s starts with fear and ends with triumph over self. Over the course of the novel
silence struggling with anger is leading to speak. Anderson incorporated all themes in anger
direction with different techniques such as flashback, allusion, symbolism, and fragmentation.
The story started in an ambiguous atmosphere ,as readers don t know what happened to Melinda
she refused to speak she only wants to live in her isolation. some people in their depression tries
to speak, and others chooses to keep themselves silent and get stressed when they are given a
heavy workload, like why me ? ,as they are too weak or shame to face the world around them
,and this exactly what happened to Melinda in this novel .People experiencing passive anger
may not even realize they are angry, because passive angry maybe repressed, it can be hard to
recognize. In this long term, these suppressed angry feelings can easily be a main reasson for
psychological suffering. As readers can only notice that she carried a folded story that will be

`` Cows, Pigs, Wars, And Witches By Marvin Harris
Cows, Pigs, Wars, and Witches by Marvin Harris divulges into some difference and components
of culture around the world. He answers question as to why individuals perform and act the way
they do in relation to culture. He looks at sexual hierarchies among Yanomamo culture as well as
the Hindu s respect for cows in India.
The Savage male chapter of the book attempts to explain human sexual hierarchies. There are two
are categorical areas that divide the theories; unmodifiable instincts and adaptiveness of lifestyles.
Harris expectation if sexual hierarchies were only decided by anatomy and cultural capacities are
that women would be the dominant gender because women are able to give birth. There is an
expectation they would modified or remove forces that may be harmful to them, and that the
populations of males would be smaller and feel more gratitude to the women. Their communities
would consist of polyandry. The men would desire sexual favor from the women and be inferior of
the women.
Friedrich Engels believes that at one time this type of system did occur but the men decided to band
together and over through the women. Harris doesn t believe this has actually occurred because
there are no examples throughout society. The closest representation of this idea is present through
10 to 15 percent of the societies across the world participating in matrilineality. Although these
societies showcase matrilineality the women are not in control of the family affairs, a male from

The Compound Effect By Darren Hardy

Dr. Carl Wysocki
Book Summary
June 11, 2017
The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy This was a very good and intriguing book to read
throughout the past couple weeks. I thought that Darren Hardy made handling money and life very
simple and easy unlike other books. I Thought for my summary of the book that I would share
some of his great ideas he presented in the book with his wisdom.
Success and failure are the results of the choices that we make everyday. Part of the compound
effect is making the right decision over and over again for a long period of time in order to be
consistently successful. Its all about making the right decision which can be hard at times because

every decision, no matter how slight, alters the trajectory of your life (pg.23).
Another great thing I took from this book is to track the habits that you want to change. This is
something that I can apply to my whole life especially the financial part of it. I fid myself
spending my money way to fast and wondering how it disappeared so quickly. In the book it says
to make sure you record everything that you buy so you can make improvements on what you are
doing with your money. Tracking is a simple exercise. It works because it brings moment to
moment awareness to the actions you take in the area of your life you want to improve (pg. 38).
Another great part about this book is when he talks about riding the momentum of success. Its
important that when you find success that you go back to what got you there and work just as
hard as you did before and you will begin to ride this wave or rhythm of success. Achievers
People who get into a successful rhythm continue busting their butts and end up achieving more
and more (pg.94). I think that one of the most important parts of the book is when talks about
developing a routine. A routine is everything, its what you do everyday in order to be successful
and find success in life. Developing a routine develops great habits in every part of

What Is A Story To Write A Short Story
LITTLE WILL PENNY sat behind a dustbin in an alley just off a quiet commercial street
somewhere in London listening to the sounds of the holidays. Christmas music floated above the
din of traffic. A rotund old man in whiskers, glasses and a long red coat rang a bell in front of a
candy shop. Kids pulled their mums and dads along the sidewalks searching for treasures in toy
stores. Twinkling lights spread muted color into the gloom of the alley.
Will had neither mum nor dad, nor toys, nor candy, nor anyone to give such things to a homeless
boy. He had no part in the holidays, so he didn t join in the festivities. It was good that Christmas
brought joy to the shoppers out on the street for a few days. But for him, it only made that vague
hollow in his heart even more empty. As far as he was concerned, Christmas was for other people.
Will had never celebrated Christmas because he never had a real home. All he knew of his parents
came from a neighbor couple who raised him. To hear them tell it, Will was lucky they took him in.
According to his foster parents, neither his mum nor his dad wanted him. His mother abandoned
him when he was still an infant. To be blunt, she threw him into the snow, out in the alley behind
their hut.
His father was worse. He was a dark wizard, crazy, and dangerous. Instead of a wand, he carried a
bronze dagger that had a mind of its own. They frequently got into bar fights, and eventually they
killed someone. The Police searched for

techniques of waste heat recovery Essay
Techniques of Waste Heat Recovery
Waste heat recovery is being more used more and more often today as it is becoming more
effective, due to increasing energy prices, technological developments and a decrease in equipment
costs. Heat recovery can be classified into three main strategies: recycling energy back into the
process, recovering the energy for other onsite use and using it to generate electricity in combined
heat and power systems. Once the system has been made as efficient as possible before using
waste heat recovery, passive strategies are used. These have no significant input for operation
except for auxiliary equipment such as pumps and fans. The last case is active strategies, which

It is capable of operating at 300ВєC with around 70% heat recovery capability. They are used
where cross contamination between gas streams must be prevented in applications such as ovens
and steam boilers.
Run around coil exchangers
These are quite similar in principle to the heat pipe exchanger. The heat from the hot fluid is
transferred to the colder fluid via an intermediate fluid. One coil of this closed loop is installed in
the hot stream; the other in the cold stream and the circulation is maintained by means of a pump.
This application is used when the hot and cold fluids are located far away from each other and not
easily accessible.
Economizers
Used in boiler systems an economizer is used to pre heat the boiler water or combustion air using
the flue gas, in low to medium temperatures. These are used in domestic cases as well as in large
factories. They can increase the net thermal efficiency of a boiler by up to 15%.
Waste heat recovery boilers
They are ordinary water tube boilers in which the hot exhaust gases pass over a number of parallel
tubes containing water. The water is vaporized in the tubes and collected in a steam drum from
which it is drawn out for use as heating or processing steam.
Shell and tube heat exchangers

paths must be sealed to contain the pressures of the respective fluids. The shell contains the tube

Analysis Of The Book Wonderland, And Its Sequel
In analyzing Lewis Carroll s works Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, and its sequel, Through the
Looking Glass, studying the the illustrations is of as great importance as examining the text that
they depict. From the first sentence of Wonderland, Carroll exhibits a concern for illustrations and
their role regarding storytelling in writing, what is the use of a book , thought Alice, without
pictures, (Carroll 7). As Carroll seems to have intended, the words which comprise Wonderland and
Looking Glass are only a one facet in the reader s interpretation of the two works. Equally important
as the written text to the experience of Wonderland and Looking Glass House is illustration, and by
extension different artists interpretations of these fantastical worlds. Interpreting the Alice stories
through illustration first was Carroll himself, further increasing the interest of the relation between
image and text as well as the question of the importance of pictures to their stories. Evidently
Carroll intended the text of Alice s adventures to be accompanied with images for readers, even
initially putting in the time and effort himself to ensure their illustration, demonstrating the great
concern he had for the relationship between the text of a story and its visual depiction. However,
for the first official publication of Wonderland, Carroll enlisted artist John Tenniel to create entirely
new illustrations for the story. These new illustrations by Tenniel have become iconic

Four Key Theories Of Organisational Culture
Organisational culture is the shared values, beliefs, assumptions and morals which govern the
behaviour of people in an organisation. This paper is focused on providing insight on four key
theories of organisational culture and the analysis on the differences and similarities exists between
the theories. This paper also aims at elaborating the importance and usefulness of these theories for
individuals and line managers.
Organisation Culture
Organisational Culture refers to a system where the employees of an organisation share same
assumptions, values, beliefs and certain practices (Lee, et al., 2008).These shared values bears
important implications on the employees as they provide guidelines for dressing, individual attitude
and actions that are related to their job performances. Every organisation maintains and builds its
own culture in order to provide guidelines to its employees for their behaviour and for maintaining
and sustaining status quo (Milne, 2007).
Analysis of the Theories
Researchers have adopted various frameworks to define the organisational cultures. The models
that have been developed by some researchers to describe various indicators of organisational
culture are as follows. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

High Flow Oxygen Therapy
The project aim was to propose the adaptation of a humidification device to offer comfort to
patients who are on high flow oxygen therapy; and to provide in service trainings to clinical staff.
Fisher Paykel humidifiers were chosen in the proposal as the company provides excellent support

nurses.
As a clinical facilitator, I provide learning opportunities to staff and nursing students at St Vincent s

Does The Shape Of The Roof Of A Car Affect How Far A Model...
Different shapes can affect how far a car can travel based on the how the air flows around it. The
question of the experiment is Does the shape of the roof of the car affect how far a model car
can travel? The hypothesis of the experiment is if the roof s shape is changed, then it will affect
how far the car can travel. The shape of the roof is the independent variable and the distance
traveled is the dependent variable. The control variables are the size of the wheels, where is the
car is launched from, and the same place to be launched from. The experimental groups are a car
with a pyramid shape as a roof shape, a cube shape, and a hemisphere shape. The control group is
a car with a flat surface as a roof. To start testing for this experiment some materials needed are
some LEGOв„ў bricks, and a ruler to measure the distance traveled. To collect the data run the
control car 10 times. Then do the same for the cubed, pyramid, and hemisphere shaped roofs.

Organizational Politics
The word politics is taken in a negative sense in most of the situations. Despite of this widely
held belief, politics can be found everywhere right from home to the organization or the country

which are limited. Intentionally or unintentionally, everybody plays politics in one or the other
way to serve their purpose and it proves to be helpful for someone while considered as dirty by
others who are not benefitted by it. But probably it cannot be avoided as the politics comes in

recent crisis, the consideration of becoming European Union s member for its benefits has been the
main focus for many countries. As the incident of WWII proclaimed the shattered of European
economy, many country s economic system could not recovered on their own. Many evidences
were obtained and analyzed from countries that became members during EU enlargement. The EU
on average would gain around 1вЃ„2 percent of real GDP over a six year period. However, the
impact is quite different in the separate EU member states (Breuss 2001). Even though the
problems are varies among different countries, whether they are stabled or are in the process of
development, researches have shown that the benefits providing to EU members cause major rises
in the economy. And the process of becoming EU member is effortless compared to the
overwhelming benefits that they received. Therefore the main argument of this paper is: can
growth and productivity be different when a country decides whether or not to join the EU? The
delay in the process of widening and deepening are due to the insufficient resources and unmet
conditions of smaller countries. By understanding the benefits of becoming EU member, those
countries would be more aware of what they are lacking. Utilizing the EU benefits would increase

marks important stylistic differences: initially Angelou focuses on conveying the experiences of the
class as a whole, whereas after paragraph 6 she focuses on her own experiences, through which
several contrasts can be drawn. Rhetorically, these contrasts signify that identical rhetorical
strategies will have completely different connotations. For example, Angelou s classmates whose

The Australian Government developed a national nutrition policy in 2012 2013 to encourage
citizens to lead healthy lives and reduce nutrition related diseases (National Health and Medical
Research Council [NHMRC], 2013) such as obesity, diabetes and coronary heart disease. Good
nutrition equates to a healthy life, a study into the global burden of disease reported that 15% of
global disease was caused by lack of nutrition, in Australia in 2003, 2.1% of the burden of disease
was attributed to lack of consumption of fruit and vegetable (NHMRC, 2013). The Australian
dietary guidelines states, evidence shows that a diet high in nutritional quality consistent with
national dietary guidelines reduces the risk of death and disease (NHMRC, 2013). Nutrition is such
an important aspect of our lives that it is now taught in our schools and forms part of most
educational policies such as the Melbourne Declaration, National Quality Standards and also in the
Australian Curriculum. The Melbourne Declaration states that it is important all students develop a
sense of self awareness and self worth that allows them to make decisions in relation to their
physical well being and are provided with knowledge and understanding that allows them to
establish and maintain healthy lives (MEECYA, 2009), providing students with information in
relation to the importance of nutrition will ensure these goals are met. Vince Whitman (2001, cited
in Sorhaindo Feinstein 2006 ) stated at the 1990 World Conference on Education for All: Meeting

important factor in the development both physically mentally and behaviourally for school aged

The Problem of Poverty in Famine, Affluence, and Morality...
Peter Singer is often regarded as one of the most productive and influential philosophers of modern
times. He is well known for his discussions of the acute social, economic, and political issues,
including poverty and famines. In his Famine, Affluence, and Morality , Singer (1972) discusses
the problem of povertyand hunger, as well as the way this problem is treated in the developed
world. Singer believes that charity is inseparable from morality, and no distinction can be drawn
between charity and duty. The philosopher offers possible objections to his proposition and relevant
arguments to justify his viewpoint. The modern world does not support Singer s view, treating

Singer (1972) is convinced that affluent societies should give away within the limits that do not
slow down their economic and social growth. Here, the concept of marginal utility comes into
play. According to Singer (1972), marginal utility is the level, at which, by giving more, I would
cause as much suffering to myself or my dependents as I would relieve by my gift (p. 241). In
other words, it is a fragile boundary between being a moral person and a person, who makes his
dependents suffer for the sake of saving some distant communities from poverty. Marginal utility is
a measure of balance, which implies that bad things are prevented without causing other bad things
to happen. Singer (1972) does not say that affluent societies should limit themselves to marginal
utility, but they should avoid causing something significantly bad to their families. Certainly, the
world presented by Singer (1972) differs considerably from the real order of things. In the real
world, charity is not considered as a moral duty. Rather, it is a voluntary act of generosity, which is
subject to public approval and praise. This position favors many society members, who can use
charity as an instrument of manipulation to achieve their own purposes. Meanwhile, a consensus is
emerging that charity is a negative phenomenon, which does not allow changing the situation from
within. According to BBC (n.d.), charity deals with the symptoms, rather than causes, of poverty
and famines. It

Theme Of Love In City Lights
I.The one theme that connects all the films we have watched in this class is an overall theme of
love this love presents itself in many different ways. In City Lights, the love between The tramp
and the blind girl, in Central Station it is the love between two strangers, Dora and Josue, The
Namesake has the lovein an arranged marriage, Children of Heaven, the love between a brother and
sister, and The Kite Runner has love between two best friends that transcends the generations. All of
these movies have very different sets of characters, plots, settings, and cultures but the one theme
connecting them all is love. This love presents itself in many different ways, but the love is present
all the same.
City Lights by Charlie Chaplin took place right here in the United States and started off the
semester with a traditional view of love as a culture we often view falling in love with someone
as the ideal what everyone wants. We especially want someone to love us for who we are, not
the money or things that we have. In City Lights, the Tramp inadvertently tricks the blind girl
into thinking that he has a lot of money. However despite this deception, he loves her, he wants
to do what is best for her, even if it gets him in trouble or sends her away from him. He tries
working hard to get her what she needs a cure for her blindness. Working hard does not work out
for him, and he goes to great lengths to get the money for her, including the boxing match and
asking the millionaire for help. He does this because he loves her deeply and he wants what is best
for her. The movie ends with her being able to see and still accepting him despite the fact that he is
not a millionaire. This film portrays the great American love story putting the other person first, and
loving them despite their circumstances.
Central Station from Brazil by Walter Salles depicts a different kind of love. This movie could
have been about Josue, and the love with his mother or his brothers at the end when he finds them
instead it is about the love between him and Dora, an old, sad woman with no relation to him.
Throughout the film, Dora always tries to do what she thinks is best for Josue. It is misguided at
first, when she sells him to

Gulf Oil Crisis Essay
On April 10, 2011, an oilrig in the Gulf of Mexico exploded. This explosion killed 11
crewmembers and caused the rig to sink to the bottom of the ocean. This caused an estimated
180 185 million gallons of oil to flow into the gulf. It wasn t until July 15, 2010 until the oil was
contained and stopped flowing. The Gulf was virtually covered in crude oil. There were many
effects from this spill and many of them were environmental. Animals had to swim through this
oil and birds that landed in it were no longer able to fly because of the heavy oil on their wings.

Fig. 1 A Pelican cannot fly because its wings are covered in oil, from AP File (Charlie Riedel, 2010)
There is no way to estimate exactly how many animals actually died because some animals sink
to the bottom once dead or are eaten by predators and other animals. However, as of November 1,
2010, 6104 birds, 609 sea turtles, and 100 mammals were found dead (Fish and Wildlife
Collection Report). Even though the oil has stopped flowing animals are still being affected and
are still dying. Recent news shows that, an abnormally high number of stillborn and infant
bottlenose dolphins have washed up on shore (Krech, 2010). This tally, since January 1st, is at
67 dolphins, 24 being newborns or stillborn. These dolphins could be a very grim sign of what is to
come due to the oil spill. Overall there are no good effects on wildlife from the oil spill. The
wildlife is largely affected, but this is because their habitat is affected even more. The Gulf of
Mexico ecosystem spans 600,000 square miles (Robinson, 2010). An estimate made on April
30th put the oil spread as covering 3,850 square miles (CBS, 2010). The oil made the water slick

Law Of The Seas Memo
Law of the Seas Memo
Marine Langreney
History
The freedom of the seas doctrine was created in the 17th century as a means to control rights over
ocean space. The doctrine assigned national rights to areas controlled by limited belts, with the
remaining being assigned as a public space, free to all nations. By the mid 20th century, technology
became more advanced and the ocean s resources became vulnerable to the innovations. Rising
conflicts occurred over ocean reserves, from decreasing fish stocks to pollution left by long
distance boats and oil tankers. Tension was rising from Navies of powerful nations, and were
now competing for control over these resources. There was a clear demand for power and
presence over marine resources. Oceans were becoming a new area of conflict, and the freedom of
the seas doctrine was too outdated to keep up with these new troubles.
It wasn t until 1945, when President Harry Truman extended sovereignty over the entire
continental shelf extended from the United States, that other countries took note and followed.
This was the first instance where the freedom of seas was being challenged, and his success lead
to many countries claiming similar territories. Argentina was the first country to follow, and
claimed its own continental shelf along with the one that lay above. Chile, Peru and Ecuador
followed, but had claimed a zone of 200 miles. This came out of fear for their decreasing fish

Paper Towel Absorbency Experiment
I believe that Walmart brand paper towels are just as absorbent as Bounty brand paper towels.
All paper towels are made from paper pulp that is woven to create a large sheet. Because all
paper towels are made from the same material I believe that the Walmart brand will absorb just as
much liquid as the other brands. I will prove my hypothesisthrough a scientific experiment
comparing three brands of paper towels. I chose three brands with three very different price
points. Am I paying more money per roll for a higher quality towel or are all paper towels made the
same, therefore will absorb equal amounts of liquid. I will put each paper towelbrand through an
absorbency test 4 times to get an average amount of liquid absorbed. I am... Show more content on

If the towels are different sizes trim them to the smallest size. 3. Fill a liquid measuring cup with
100mils of water. 4. Submerge the first brand of paper towel into water and start the stopwatch.
At 20 seconds remove the paper towel from the water and squeeze the paper towel into the
second liquid measuring cup. 5. Record how much water was squeezed from the paper towel. 6.
Repeat with each brand of towel and record the data. Repeat each set of trials at least four times for
consistency of data. 7. Find the average amount of liquid absorbed by each brand of towel and plot
in a bar graph.
My experimental design is set up in such a way that anyone can replicate this experiment with the
same brands of towels and get the same results. My plan keeps the trials as fair as possible by
cutting the towels down to the same size so only the thickness of each towel comes into play. It is
important to conduct multiple trials to insure the data is consistent.
The Dependent variable for this study is the amount of water absorbed by the paper towels. This
will be measured in milliliters. The independent variable for this study is different brands of paper
towels. The controlled variables will be the amount of water the paper towels are given to absorb,
the size of the paper towels at the beginning of the experiment, and using the same measuring
instruments in each trial. I will reduce the threat to internal validity by conducting the experiments
in the

Taking a Look at Body Art
Research Assignment (Body Art) Body painting is a certain form of art that continued with humans
through the ancient times to the modern day times, where artists use the human body as canvasses
to show beauty like no other style of artwork can. African, European, Asia, and Australian tribes
have shown records that body paintingwas used. The tribes were using pigments from plant leaves
and fruits to decorate themselves because body art was an important part of their lives. Body art
would represent qualities of the people, goals for life, gods, and many war themes. The first full
body paintingarose in 1933 of a naked model in Chicago. Body painting spread out during the
1960 s when hippies began the movement in the United States. It is important to clarify that
body painting is not just applied to nude bodies, but also can be applied to pieces of skin. Alexa
Meade is a very skilful artist and has a certain style and view of body painting herself. Alexa was
born and raised in 1986 in Washington, D.C. In 2009, Meade graduated from Vassar College in
Poughkeepsie, NY majoring in political science. Meade received her bachelor s degree, but never
attended art school. Meade was forced to teach herself how to paint, which started at the age of 15.
When interviewed, Meade stated, I didn t have to think of painting as this thing on canvas, because
I didn t have any practice doing that. I just saw paint as something that can be used in space. When
just beginning, Meade s studio

  • 3. Analysis Of The Movie Butterfield Stars Essay Butterfield stars as Bruno, a curious, stubborn eight year old whose family is relocated to the countryside when his father receives a new job as a head member of the Nazi party, working for the Auschwitz Birkenau concentration camp. Lonely and frustrated from having no one his own age to talk to, Bruno explores past the limits of his backyard. He comes across a barbed wire fence, with a young boy named Schmuel (played by Scanlon) on the other side wearing what Bruno perceives to be striped pajamas. The two boys strike up a friendship through the fence, with Bruno coming to visit Shmuel almost daily. Neither boy grasps that Schmuel is in a death camp, and when Schmuel confesses to Bruno that he is Jewish, Bruno doesn t not seem to understand why that matters. Curious as to what really lies on the other side of the fence, Bruno and Schmuel plot for him to sneak into the camp, which leads to the demise of both of them. The film is more emotion based rather than fact based, in an attempt to appeal to the audiences symphonies rather than instruct them on a historical event. It has been criticized for its accuracy, specifically pertaining to the ages of the boys. Many critics claim that boys as young as Schmuel would never have been at Auschwitz, because all children too young to work were gassed upon arrival. Others argue that the film is symbol of innocence, and the two boys reflect how children are able to look past each other s differences easier than adults. Critics also ... • 4. Nt1310 Unit 3 Assignment 1 Bridge Bridge: Bridge is a simple device that aids in interconnecting similar LAN s between local area networks that use identical protocols for the physical and data link layers in accordance with the IEEE 802.3 standards. As the devices connected to the bridge use the same protocols, the amount of processing required is minimal. Nowadays, routers are used more commonly to interconnect LAN s as bridges are Layer 2 devices and pose almost no security while the router is a Layer 3 device and offers better Data Security. Routers: Paraphrasing (Stallings, 2007) the function of routers is to get the packet to a destination network. The router reads the header created by the Network Layer of the protocol stack on the source computer. The router can be configured to filter by protocol, source... • 8. Describe How The Design Of Respiratory System Facilitates... DESCRIBE HOW THE DESIGN OF RESPIRATORY SYSTEM FACILITATES GAS EXCHANGE? SID: Process of respiration involves supply of oxygen to blood cells (oxygen intake) and excretion of carbon dioxide and other waste (CO2 excretion). Purified blood is carried to all parts of the body by blood vessels in order to achieve gaseous exchange at cell level. This process is carried out through a complex system called Respiratory System. Organs which comprise respiratory system include mouth, nasal passage, glottis, trachea, larynx, pharynx, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli and last but not the least lungs. In the following lines, we ll discuss in details how the structures of respiratory system accomplish exchange of gases. The upper respiratory tract comprises those organs that bring the air in and lower respiratory tract comprises those parts that process the air. Upper respiratory tract starts from the nose and the mouth. They enable the air to enter through external nares (nostrils). Behind the nostrils there are little shelves of bone called nasal conchae (superior, middle and inferior). They divide the nasal cavity into thin passages called meatuses. (Jahangir, 2015). Surface areas of nasal conchae creates turbulence, forcing the air to get bounced in the nasal cavity and increase the surface area of these cavities, thus allowing the mucus to trap the dirt, bacteria and enable only warm, clean and moist air as it passes down to the lungs. Intentionally or unintentionally, everybody plays politics in one or the other way to serve their purpose and it proves to be helpful for someone while considered as dirty by others who are not benefitted by it. As the incident of WWII proclaimed the shattered of European economy, many country s economic system could not recovered on their own. Many evidences were obtained and analyzed from countries that became members during EU enlargement. The EU on average would gain around 1вЃ„2 percent of real GDP over a six year period. Even though the problems are varies among different countries, whether they are stabled or are in the process of development, researches have shown that the benefits providing to EU members cause major rises in the economy. And the process of becoming EU member is effortless compared to the overwhelming benefits that they received. Therefore the main argument of this paper is: can growth and productivity be different when a country decides whether or not to join the EU? The delay in the process of widening and deepening are due to the insufficient resources and unmet conditions of smaller countries. By understanding the benefits of becoming EU member, those countries would be more aware of what they are lacking. Utilizing the EU benefits would increase ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Singer (1972) is convinced that affluent societies should give away within the limits that do not slow down their economic and social growth. Here, the concept of marginal utility comes into play. According to Singer (1972), marginal utility is the level, at which, by giving more, I would cause as much suffering to myself or my dependents as I would relieve by my gift (p. 241). In other words, it is a fragile boundary between being a moral person and a person, who makes his dependents suffer for the sake of saving some distant communities from poverty. Marginal utility is a measure of balance, which implies that bad things are prevented without causing other bad things to happen. Singer (1972) does not say that affluent societies should limit themselves to marginal utility, but they should avoid causing something significantly bad to their families. Certainly, the world presented by Singer (1972) differs considerably from the real order of things. In the real world, charity is not considered as a moral duty. Rather, it is a voluntary act of generosity, which is subject to public approval and praise. This position favors many society members, who can use charity as an instrument of manipulation to achieve their own purposes. Meanwhile, a consensus is emerging that charity is a negative phenomenon, which does not allow changing the situation from within. • 40. Theme Of Love In City Lights I.The one theme that connects all the films we have watched in this class is an overall theme of love this love presents itself in many different ways. In City Lights, the love between The tramp and the blind girl, in Central Station it is the love between two strangers, Dora and Josue, The Namesake has the lovein an arranged marriage, Children of Heaven, the love between a brother and sister, and The Kite Runner has love between two best friends that transcends the generations. All of these movies have very different sets of characters, plots, settings, and cultures but the one theme connecting them all is love. This love presents itself in many different ways, but the love is present all the same. City Lights by Charlie Chaplin took place right here in the United States and started off the semester with a traditional view of love as a culture we often view falling in love with someone as the ideal what everyone wants. We especially want someone to love us for who we are, not the money or things that we have. In City Lights, the Tramp inadvertently tricks the blind girl into thinking that he has a lot of money. However despite this deception, he loves her, he wants to do what is best for her, even if it gets him in trouble or sends her away from him. He tries working hard to get her what she needs a cure for her blindness. Working hard does not work out for him, and he goes to great lengths to get the money for her, including the boxing match and asking the millionaire for help. He does this because he loves her deeply and he wants what is best for her. The movie ends with her being able to see and still accepting him despite the fact that he is not a millionaire. This film portrays the great American love story putting the other person first, and loving them despite their circumstances. Central Station from Brazil by Walter Salles depicts a different kind of love. This movie could have been about Josue, and the love with his mother or his brothers at the end when he finds them instead it is about the love between him and Dora, an old, sad woman with no relation to him. Fig. 1 A Pelican cannot fly because its wings are covered in oil, from AP File (Charlie Riedel, 2010) There is no way to estimate exactly how many animals actually died because some animals sink to the bottom once dead or are eaten by predators and other animals. However, as of November 1, 2010, 6104 birds, 609 sea turtles, and 100 mammals were found dead (Fish and Wildlife Collection Report). Even though the oil has stopped flowing animals are still being affected and are still dying. Recent news shows that, an abnormally high number of stillborn and infant bottlenose dolphins have washed up on shore (Krech, 2010). This tally, since January 1st, is at 67 dolphins, 24 being newborns or stillborn. These dolphins could be a very grim sign of what is to come due to the oil spill. • 42. Law Of The Seas Memo Law of the Seas Memo Marine Langreney History The freedom of the seas doctrine was created in the 17th century as a means to control rights over ocean space. The doctrine assigned national rights to areas controlled by limited belts, with the remaining being assigned as a public space, free to all nations. By the mid 20th century, technology became more advanced and the ocean s resources became vulnerable to the innovations. Rising conflicts occurred over ocean reserves, from decreasing fish stocks to pollution left by long distance boats and oil tankers. Tension was rising from Navies of powerful nations, and were now competing for control over these resources. There was a clear demand for power and presence over marine resources. Oceans were becoming a new area of conflict, and the freedom of the seas doctrine was too outdated to keep up with these new troubles. It wasn t until 1945, when President Harry Truman extended sovereignty over the entire continental shelf extended from the United States, that other countries took note and followed. This was the first instance where the freedom of seas was being challenged, and his success lead to many countries claiming similar territories. Taking a Look at Body Art Research Assignment (Body Art) Body painting is a certain form of art that continued with humans through the ancient times to the modern day times, where artists use the human body as canvasses to show beauty like no other style of artwork can. African, European, Asia, and Australian tribes have shown records that body paintingwas used. The tribes were using pigments from plant leaves and fruits to decorate themselves because body art was an important part of their lives. Body art would represent qualities of the people, goals for life, gods, and many war themes. The first full body paintingarose in 1933 of a naked model in Chicago.
