As professional engineers, our first and foremost responsibility in responding to an emergency is protecting life safety. That is often easier said than done, however, when you throw politics, breaking news, active and unstable landslides and people’s homes into the mix. From managing communications, knowing when to declare a state of emergency, shutting down roads, and yellow- and red-tagging houses, there’s a lot both engineers and public works officials need to consider when it comes to emergency response. This presentation by GeoEngineers Principal Geotechnical Engineer J. Gordon, PE, explores these different considerations and what you might want to think about ahead of time when it comes to emergency response services.

Onset Bay Center Community Update - March 2018
The Buzzards Bay Coalition and Town of Wareham received a $350,000 grant to rehabilitate the historic Onset Bathhouse to serve as the headquarters for the Onset Bay Center. Renovations will include reconstructing the second level as a classroom and gathering space, and adding boat storage below. Construction is expected to begin after Labor Day 2018 with the goal of opening in summer 2019.

In recent years, Westport residents noticed that the salt marsh islands in the Westport Rivers, particularly in the West Branch, were disappearing rapidly. - Other related research includes continuous monitoring of multiple bogs to better understand nutrients in floods and storms. This will provide improved data for watershed models.

A wound is a break in the integrity of the skin or tissues, which may be associated with disruption of the structure and function.
Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.

Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges.
