Major Concepts
Metaparadigm
King's theory is based on the nursing metaparadigm, which
includes four key concepts:
Person: The patient and nurse are central to the theory.
Environment: The social and physical context in which nursing care
occurs.
Health: The goal of nursing is to promote and
maintain the patient's health.
Nursing: Nursing involves facilitating goal attainment
through interpersonal interactions.
CONCEPTUAL MODEL

THEORY
The Theory of Goal Attainment was developed by Imogene King in
the early 1960s. It describes a dynamic, interpersonal relationship in
which a patient grows and develops to attain certain life goals. The
theory explains that factors which can affect the attainment of goals
are roles, stress, space, and time.

IImogene King's clinical practice
approach emphasizes the importance of
establishing effective nurse-patient
relationships, clear communication, and
mutual goal-setting to promote patient
well-being and achieve healthcare goals.

It is defines as a set of parts that are interconnected with each
other to serve a purpose.
It also has inputs, outputs and control and feedback processes

it represents the condition of the life processes identified on
three levels as integrated, compensatory, and compromised
It is constantly changing and is made up of focal, contextual,
and residual stimuli where it shows a person’s range of stimuli
where they respond with ordinary adaptive responses
Adaptation Level
are broad areas of concern relating to the ability to adapt
This is described to be the difficulties that are seen when a
person is unable to adapt positively.
Adaptation problems are not seen as nursing diagnoses but as
areas of concern for the nurse related to adapting
person/group.

Roy defines Nursing to be a science and practice that
applies adaptive abilities and enhances person and
environmental transformation.
Person
are holistic adaptive systems that have feeling and
thinking capacities that adjust effectively to changes in the
environment and affects the said environment.
Health
is a state or process of a person being able to properly
adapt physiologically,pyschologically and how their social
integrity is an unimpaired condition that leads to
completeness or unity.
Environment
are conditions ,circumstances ,and influences around the
person that affect them in a little or big, and positive or
negative way. They are inputs to the person as an
adaptive system and are categorized as focal ,contextual
,and residual stimuli.

Major Concepts
fundamental unit of living and nonliving where it is infinite and
pandimensional. Human field and environmental field are both
irreducible and each environmental field is specific to its given
human field. They change continuously.
Energy Field
Energy fields are infinite, open ,and integral to one another and
is a continuous process.
Universe of Open Systems
are what helps distinguish energy fields of each individual. They
reveal themselves in manifestations like a disease, illness, or
well being. They are unique to each individual.
Pattern
is a domain or timeless reality that is nonlinear and spaceless
