SELF-DIRECTED LEARNING PLAN
The Self-Directed Learning Plan (SDLP) is a process and document to chronicle your accomplishments and learning steps through the MSN program and beyond as they relate to your professional goals.
The SDLP will help you to identify and target the array of competencies you need to reach your professional objectives and to help you organize your Kaplan MSN learning experience to suit your career objectives.
The SDLP will be a section of your Program Portfolio, so take some quality introspective time to consider strengths and areas of development relevant to your career objectives. Knowing your strengths and areas to develop, you can begin a plan to find out what you need to do to achieve your career goals. We encourage you to continue to reflect on the identified areas throughout the MSN program. If you feel strength or development area is no longer relevant, you may add another to take its place. At any time, you may also add additional areas.

Professional Goal (3-5 years) from now: My long-term goal (7-10 years) is to open my own practice offering primary care to patients across populations suffering from common to acute to chronic illnesses. In this case, my 3 to 5 years professional goals must fit in this plan. They include completing my MSN program, getting my NP licensure and finding suitable settings, preferably a busy hospital offering all-round NP services from which I can garner ample experience to enable me open my own practice. This implies not just hands on care, but leadership/managerial skills that would be critical in helping me direct healthcare services delivered in my practice.
Knowledge that prepares a graduate student for an advanced nursing role:
Knowledge of background in humanities and sciences, as it pertains to NP. This is upon recognizing that NPs prepared at graduate/master’s level should be reading to integrate genetics, organization sciences, biopsychosocial fields, public health and scientific findings derived from nursing to continually improve delivery of nursing care in various settings. Knowledge of system, as well as, organizational and personal leadership is critical to enable an NP direct safe, cost conscious and quality patient care at a personal and organizational level. Considering that NPs must deal with complex issues and deliver comprehensive care, knowledge of integrating and translating research into practice is needed to enable NPs use best-evidence practice to resolve dire patient and clinical settings problems. NPs must also have the knowledge of how healthcare technologies and informatics are used to enable them enhance communication and care to increase efficiency and effectiveness. Background
Ms. L is an 87-year-old African American woman who was diagnosed with vulvar cancer at the beginning of 2017. She is also HIV-positive. By the time Ms. L engaged in care, the cancer had proliferated quite quickly in the setting of a compromised immune system. Upon discovery of the Stage 4 cancer, doctors recommended a dose of radiation and chemotherapy. However, during the course of this episode Ms. L was struggling with substance use. During her hospitalization, she tested positive for a number of substances, including heroin and cocaine. As a result, care providers had many discussions about pain management and which pain medications could be given to her. She was not on methadone treatment maintenance at first, so she was self-medicating to address her pain. While Ms. L wanted to seek help for her addiction to substances, some of the traditional models were not appropriate given the magnitude of her physical issues. There were expectations that she would get into outpatient treatment but she did not follow through, primarily because it was difficult for her to tolerate being in groups for long periods. (Given the location of her cancer, she could not sit upright for long periods or on the bus for transportation.) Ultimately, Lawanda Williams, Director of Housing Services at Health Care for the Homeless in Baltimore, Maryland,.

Running head: APN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN
Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Professional Development Plan
Advance Practice Nurse (APN) Professional Development Plan
The role of an advanced practice nurse (APN) plays a vital part in the United States health care system. APN’s are highly trained registered nurses with advanced graduate-level education. Earning a masters degree or doctorate degree in nursing allows APN’s to apply advanced knowledge in decision-making for complex cases with a large degree of independence. There are 4 main practice roles of specialization within nursing. Whether a nurse practitioner (NP), clinical nurse specialist (CNS), certified nurse anesthetist (CRNA), or a certified nurse midwife (CNM), each play a crucial role in the future of health care. Although each role requires different training and skills, they are equally complex and require high levels of critical thinking, decision-making, and independence (Hanlon, 2015).
It is important for a NP to understand the different roles of an APN and utilize the knowledge and skills to develop a professional development plan (PDP). A PDP allows for self-analysis and leadership development by setting goals and personal objectives, and assessing the importance of being a leader. This paper will review the APN scope of practice in the state of Florida, provide a personalized assessment reflecting strengths, weaknesses, goals, and objectives, strategies for advancement of the profession, Curriculum vitae, and concluding with a summary of the essential components of the APN professional development plan.
Advance Practice Nurse Scope of Practice – State of Florida
APN practice is defined by the Nurse Practice Act and governed by the Board of Nursing. There are laws and regulations that may impact practice, for example, the location where one practice’s. NP’s are required to abide by each state’s guidelines that govern the role of advance practice nurses. The definition of the role and scope of practice guidelines for a NP vary from state to state. It is understandable that state definitions may convey confusion related to the role separation, competency, emphasis, approach, and variation of a CNP. As the number of advanced practice nurses and the tasks performed by these individuals continues to grow, the importance of duty clarity is essential. Ensuring a clear understanding of expectations is imperative for nursing to have an impact on the delivery of health care services.
The state of Florida defines the role of a CNP as “any person licensed in this state to practice professional nursing and certified in advanced or specialized nursing practice, including certified registered nurse anesthetists, certified nurse mid-wives, and nurse practitioners” (Buppert, 2015). To become certified as a NP in Florida, one must hold a valid registered nurse license with a Bachelors Degree in Science recognized by the Board of Nursing. Once enrolled in a NP.

I would like to welcome the faculty and course members to this presentation of a topic that I am passionate about as a current faculty member. This project will explain in detail the need for a standardized placement tool for academic settings and hospitals to use.
2
Current difficulty placing students in the clinical setting
Limited sites for faculty led/preceptor led clinical
Disorganized Process of placement of students
Current placement is done individually by each site and it time intensive
Current process shows favoritism
Summary of Practicum Project Topic
As a former student I have felt the pains of placement for students in the clinical setting. As a faculty member I have been exposed to the difficulties that placing students has placed on the colleges and faculty, and the hospitals that host students. The difficulties are in the following areas:
Lack of qualified faculty willing to be flexible in unique clinical times (weekends/nights)
Poor communication between the school/hospital
Time extensive placement for current process ( School sends a request, hospitals wait for requests from all colleges before approving, placement approvals/denial sent back to college). This process can take up to months for a response.
Due to the poor communication sites are limited as managers don’t respond timely so sites go without students on site
The faculty from each college and placement coordinators from each hospital all meet monthly to discuss process. At this meeting it was discovered that one hospital places favoritism to the college associated with them and also the technical college as they have tenure with them. This makes fair placement an issue.
In the Greater Green Bay Healthcare Alliance meeting I presented the proposed topic for approval on April 8, 2016. The above listed issues were discussed and all members agreed to provide data to make placement a standardized process. All faculty and placement coordinators agree to provide all data available to create a useful tool that can be used by all members for student clinical placement.

Project Goals
Gather all necessary information to create an effective standardized placement tool
Create a standardized student placement tool
Presentation approved by the Greater Green Bay Health Care Alliance
Successful completion of this course to better prepare me for this advanced degree in nursing
The project goals that I have set for this project are related to the creation of a standardized tool that can be useful for academic setting and healthcare facilities to use to place students in the clinical setting. As listed in the introduction the current process lacks organization, standardiz.

Nursing Career Planning
Individual career planning is essential in the transitional journey from being a student to becoming a professional in your chosen career. I can imagine that it will be challenging as a nursing student to transition from school to the practice setting, but with perseverance, guidance and mentoring from fellow nurses and nurse managers my professional development will be successful. In this paper, I will discuss how I will transition as a nursing student into the nursing profession in my home state of Florida and outline my goals for lifelong learning, career development and advancement. Additionally, the paper will discuss how I will aim to achieve balance including the stressors and challenges that I may encounter in both my professional and personal life.
Transition To Nursing Profession
Each qualified and registered nurse needs to assume an essential part in the nursing profession. Individual responsibility and due ingenuity is principal. Along these lines, one ought to arrange as needs be for self-awareness and improvement lifelong learning by taking part in testing undertakings and reports that will make somebody progress in his profession. I will have a consistent professional improvement that will be indicated by expert inputs and occupation examinations directed at the work environment every year. I will involve myself in challenging activities and undertakings to help me in developing and building up the professional skills and knowledge (Feldman, 2003, p. 38). At last, in all the professional practices and viewpoints, I ought to be guided by the rule of genuineness and integrity as per the nursing codes. I ought to work decently with no inclinations and have an interest in feedback, as this is the thing that shows me areas of weakness and strengths for professional development (Drucker and Institute, 2013, p. 13). I will be guided entirely by the nursing code of practice, ethical codes and work standards as outlined by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
I have to take into consideration the advancement of nursing as a profession to only my personal development. In each angle, I ought to further my studies so that I can do research in specific areas that will add the fund of knowledge in nursing and improve evidenced-based practice in the clinical settings. Every one of the components where I feel that I am knowledgeable and skilled I should record it as a strength and for weaknesses I will indicate them as areas for improvement. As a nurse I need to collaborate with others since I cannot work alone to improve the profession but also it will provide me with a chance to comprehend themselves b ...

Study Plan
Throughout my educational career, I strived to prioritize my time and committed to learning the course curriculum's content in depth to succeed in my career and understand the decisions and impact in adequately diagnosing and treating patients accurately as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP). The purpose of this paper is to analyze my strength, weakness, and study plan for the certification exam.
As the academic requirements for the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) are coming close to a conclusion, there are steps to take before entering the workforce as a PMHNP after graduation from school (Park, Athey, Pericak, Pulcini, & Greene, 2018). the steps to be acknowledged as a nurse practitioner can be stressful and challenging because of the entry-level competency-based examination. The exam tests clinical knowledge to uphold the highest standards for certification of nurse practitioners (NPS), which is set by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program's (AANPCP) (Meadows, & Schumann, 2014). Moreover, to meet the requirements, it appropriate to study diligently by having a study plan, including knowing your strength and weakness (Wheeler 2014).
My strength will be reflecting on the practicum experiences and focusing on ways to study for other certification exams and feelings about what happened during those exams, which will guide me. Through that, I will know what I will do to make sure the oncoming certification exam will succeed on the first attempt. Furthermore, analyzing what I have learned in class and the practice test question results is another strength that can make me pass the upcoming exam. Through practice test question results, I was able to view my weakness, which will help me know which concepts to put more emphasis on. Also, joining some discussion groups and exam reviews which are going will make me excel.
Some things are essential when preparing a study plan so that one can excel in the certification exam. I will require personally to be prepared, for instance, being sure that I have adequate sleep and rest; Studies have shown that lack of sleep can significantly impact our cognitive state of mind (Spira, Chen-Edinboro, Wu, & Yaffe, 2014). I must rest adequately to help me focus and attain information and make sure that I grasp all the valuable contents for the certification exam, creating a timetable that I will follow to put the necessary weights in all topics. The study plan will be personalized to make sure that I am meeting the requirements, which will help me to schedule my time for learning at least four -hour session daily in which that I will focus on at least two to three topics, including treatments to make sure that I do not get bored in the process.
One of my primary goals is to be competent in the areas required to pass the certification exam and pass my certification exam on the first attempt. To ac ...

This also goes for knowledge of advocacy and healthy policy to be able to engage themselves in policy development at organizational and political level to advance NP practice, ...

Case study: Patient-Centered Care: Case Studies on End of Life in elderly
Background

To ac ...

Organizational BehaviorDisney Animation - John LasseterThe case focu.docxhopeaustin33688
Organizational BehaviorDisney Animation - John LasseterThe case focuses on John Lasseter, who currently is the creative head of Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios, both of which are owned by The Walt Disney Company. The case chronicles Lasseter’s interests in animation from a young age, the relationship he developed with the Disney organization, his developing interest in computer-animation and consequent demise at Disney Studios, his subsequent award-winning success with computer animation at Pixar Studios, and his recent ascension to creative head of Disney’s Animation Studio as part of the Pixar-Disney merger. The case provides a marvelous illustration of the many types of interpersonal power ¾ reward, coercive, legitimate, referent, and expert that exist within an organization. The case also shows how power can be used to promote the well-being of the organization and its members or to benefit specific people’s interests at the expense of others’ interests. Herein, the two faces of power positive and negative come into play. Another linkage between the chapter material and the case occurs in the form of concerns about the ethical versus unethical use of power. Finally, the case can be used to explore the concepts of organizational politics and political behavior in organizations. Organizational politics often has a negative connotation, and some of the case facts lend themselves to reinforcing this negative connotation.Power and Politics in the Fall and Rise of John LasseterJohn Lasseter grew up in a family heavily involved in artistic expression. Lasseter was drawn to cartoons as a youngster. As a freshman in high school he read a book entitled The Art of Animation. The book, about the making of the Disney animated film Sleeping Beauty, proved to be a revelation for Lasseter. He discovered that people could earn a living by developing cartoons. He started writing letters to The Walt Disney Company Studios regarding his interest in creating cartoons. Studio representatives, who corresponded with Lasseter many times, told him to get a great art education, after which they would teach him animation. When Disney started a Character Animation Program at the California Institute of Arts film school, Lasseter enrolled in the program after encouragement from the studio. Classes were taught by extremely talented Disney animators who also shared stories about working with Walt Disney himself. During summer breaks, jobs at Disneyland further fueled Lasseter’s passion for working as an animator for Disney Studios. Full of excitement, Lasseter joined the Disney animation staff in 1979 after graduation. However, he soon met with disappointment.According to Lasseter, “[t]he animation studio wasn’t being run by these great Disney artists like our teachers at Cal Arts, but by lesser artists and businesspeople who rose through attrition as the grand old men retired.” Lasseter was told, “[y]ou put in your time for 20 years and do what you’r.

Leadership, ethics and organizational failure in a post-colonial context: a case study of genocide in Rwanda.
Introduction
Groups, teams and states are major characteristics of organizational life. It is believed that majority of the organization’s practices need a lot of coordination through working as a team and a group. The leadership of an organization is important in terms of the development of the goals and objectives. Leaders within an organization are responsible for developing the goals and objectives of the organization. In most cases, the success of an organization is usually attributed to the leaders of the organization. The genocide in Rwanda was instigated by the hostility between the Hutu and Tutsi as a result of polarization of the two ethnic groups by the colonial era. The colonization process favored one group over the other. It is believed that the leadership of Rwanda at the time played a major role. Leadership in every country plays a major role in the unity of the nation and in fostering peace and co-existence between different ethnic groups. Therefore the leadership of Rwanda at the time failed to quell the existence of animosity between the Hutu and the Tutsi leading to the experience of genocide that led to mass killings. The paper aims at discussing leadership, ethics and organizational failure in a post-colonial context with a case study of genocide in Rwanda. Main emphasis is laid on organizational failure that instigated the genocide and in particular the correlation between the key leaders and geo-political relations (Scott, 1998).
Leadership traits and concepts
Leadership is considered as the ability to influence the followers towards the achievement of set goals and objectives. Leadership is closely related to management which is aimed at ensuring compliance from the organizational members. The trait theory of leadership is important in terms of defining leadership. The characteristics of the leader can be used for the determination of their leadership styles. According to the behavioral theories of leadership, the specific behaviors of the leaders differentiate the leaders from the non leaders. According to the traits theory of leadership, social, physical, personality or intellectual traits can be used for the purpose of differentiating the leaders from the non leaders. According to the theory, the leader is also supposed to be qualified and open. The contingency theory on the other hand analyzes the environment in which the leader operates. Situational leadership theory examines the ability of the followers to readily accept the instructions of the leaders. There are also various styles of leadership and it plays an important role in determining the potential of the leaders. The charismatic leaders usually portray unconventional behaviors and usually understand. On the other.

Introduction
7. Despite the American working system seemingly becoming
complex to most of its working-class citizens, there are still
ways of maintaining a competitive advantage in the workplace.
An article by Bradley University explains that the transition to
or from an MSN program can be one of the toughest events to
individuals who are not perfectly prepared. The article
highlights that an individual must be both psychologically and
emotionally ready to encounter such challenges through a
thorough academic background.
Academic Resource/Strategy 1
Being always on top of assignments.
One must be able to possess educational strategies such as being
always on top of assignments. This aspect is most helpful in
that environment where there is stiff competition, and people
are majorly scrambling for the limited resources available.
Being on top of the assignments given will not only make me be
in favor of the seniors and the supervisors, but it will also
create some sense of seriousness in the eyes of the supervisors
and the seniors.
Academic Resource/Strategy 2
The second strategy is the element of schedule creation.
Coming up with a schedule ahead of the stipulated time for the
exercise can be a perfect head start for people who have
challenges in starting or keeping up with the exercise. A
schedule will not only act as a reminder but will also ensure
that I am always ahead of time.
Academic Resource/Strategy 3
The third strategy is to focus on self-care.
Self-care is a very important strategy when someone is keen on
advancing a career more so since it involves much of holistic
8. development both mentally and emotionally.
Professional Resource/Strategy 1
The first professional resource that might be helpful is the vast
knowledge and access to the nursing research database
(CINAHL Plus with Full Text, Medline).
These are database that is equipped with the necessary and
relevant information that is helpful towards the advancement of
the career in nursing.
Professional Resource/Strategy 2
The second important resource is the attendance of the annual
conference.
Some of the notable annual conferences include the AANP
Specialty and Leadership Conference, the National Student
Nurses Association Annual Conference, and the American
Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Professional Resource/Strategy 3
The third resource is board review courses.
These are courses that may prove helpful in building a
competent long-term legacy in the nursing field. Some of these
board review courses include Advanced Practice Education
Associates (Hollier), Core Concepts Anesthesia Review, and
Marye Dorsey Kellerman’s Necessary NP Review.
How can one use these resources?
The mentioned resources can be used to the advancement of a
career in MSN through various aspects. For instance, knowledge
and access to the nursing database can be beneficial in being
updated with whatever the field has been up to on a periodical
basis. This aspect helps to ensure that I keep in line with the
required changes. Attendance of annual nursing conferences can
be helpful in building my networks and gaining more knowledge
and information while engaging in board review courses can be
9. used as a platform for my career advancement through being
ahead of fellow nurses.
Conclusion
As an aspiring or a practicing nurse, it very important for me to
be up to date with some of the possible professional resources
in the field. These are the components that are highly effective
in ensuring that I am competent in the field through frequent
updates and follow-ups. Every aspiring MSN nurse in the
country should be able to at least observe any of the mentioned
academic strategies or be in full practice of the professional
resources mentioned. This is because of the competitive nature
of the nursing field, where being ahead is the key to success.

Week 3 | Part 3: Strategies to Promote Academic Integrity and
Professional Ethics
I have analyzed the relationship between academic integrity and
writing, as well as the relationship between professional
practices and scholarly ethics. I have also identified strategies I
intend to pursue to maintain integrity and ethics of my academic
10. work while a student of the MSN program, as well as my
professional work as a nurse throughout my career. The results
of these efforts are shared below.
Directions: In the space below craft your analysis/writing
sample, including Part 1 (The Connection Between Academic
and Professional Integrity) and Part 2 (Strategies for
Maintaining Integrity of Work). Utilize headings formatted in
proper APA throughout each Part to clearly identify key topic
area requirements.
Remember to include an introduction paragraph which contains
a clear and comprehensive purpose statement which delineates
all required criteria, and end the assignment Part with a
conclusion paragraph.
Part 1: Writing Sample: The Connection Between Academic and
Professional Integrity
In the space below write a 2- 3-paragraph analysis that includes
the following:
· Clearly and accurately explains in detail the relationship
between academic integrity and writing.
· Clearly and accurately explains in detail the relationship
between professional practices and scholarly ethics.
· Accurately cite at least 2 resources that fully support your
arguments, being sure to use proper APA formatting.
· Use Grammarly and SafeAssign to improve the product.
· Clearly and accurately describe in detail how Grammarly,
SafeAssign, and paraphrasing contributes to academic integrity.
Include sufficient evidence that Grammarly and SafeAssign
were utilized to improve responses.
Academic writing and academic integrity remain to be two
11. important terms that correlate in any given set up, which
involves both professional and academic prospects. But what is
the actual connection between these two terms? Academic
integrity, just from the name, is all about the general
observation of ethics when it comes to matters to do with
academic work. This aspect can be observed in various aspects,
which involves individuals coming up with means of protecting
the actual cause of academic prospects. Bauer College of
Business (2019) expounds that academic integrity is all about
doing the right thing even when there is no one on the lookout
in an academic set-up. They say that it is all about upholding all
the values associated with academic prospects and achievement,
such as honesty and truthfulness. Academic writing, on the
other hand, is the actual observance of academic integrity and
requirements in a piece of writing. This may involve observing
certain written codes and values that must be used to write an
academic piece while observing academic integrity. These two
components correlate in the aspect that for one to successfully
achieve academic writing, he or she must have practiced
academic integrity. One cannot achieve the writing part without
the integrity part.
What is the relation between professional practices and
scholarly ethics? In a medical set-up, professional practices can
be interpreted to mean those attributes that define people
formally observe when inter4acting with fellow workers in a
professional set-up. Scholarly ethics is the aspect of observing
academically approved interactive methods to explain or outline
a concept within a professional set-up. Mackenzie (2017)
outlines that for a successful prospect in any typical
professional condition, one must observe scholarly ethics to
achieve professional practices.
Grammarly and SafeAssign are essential tools in the process of
writing that need to be used for one to be able to come up with
quality and original work. SafeAssign tools can point out the
mistakes made by highlighting them. However, Grammarly can
point out the level of plagiarism and give a comprehensive
12. report of the research paper that is ready for submission. The
word counts in the paper can also be seen. While using
Grammarly, a student can fix spelling, punctuation, grammar
mistakes, and sentence structures. The presence of these tools
makes it easier for students to submit a high-quality original
paper.
PART 2: Strategies for Maintaining Integrity of Work
Expand on your thoughts from Part 1 by:
· Clearly identifying and accurately describing strategies you
intend to pursue to maintain integrity and ethics of your 1)
academic work while a student of the MSN program, and 2)
professional work as a nurse throughout your career.
· Include a clearly developed review of resources and
approaches you propose to use as a student and a professional.
As a student of MSN program, certain strategies are necessary
to maintain integrity both in the profession and in the outside
world. Dworkowitz (2013) outlines that one can observe
strategies such as sticking to one’s values. The idea of having
values is very important in the maintenance of work integrity.
This involves aspects such as observing the idea of working on
deadlines on time and having a good relationship with everyone
within the workplace. Sticking to one’s value can also be
beneficial in ensuring that one does not succumb to unnecessary
pressures since one will be able to conduct his or her affairs
within the stipulated timeframe. Secondly, one can avoid moral
complexities that may be experienced within a professional set
up, such as in the MSN. Moral complexities can easily confuse
individuals into making tough decisions that may ruin a
professional prospect, and in this case, the element of simplicity
may be key to ease such complications.
13. In nursing practice, integrity in the workplace can further be
achieved through various other aspects. For instance, a nurse
can choose to maintain social and emotional contact with the
patients to improve the wellbeing of the patients. This will
promote an ethical relationship with the patients, which is an
important part of professional ethics. Secondly, one can choose
to observe integrity by overcoming certain barriers that are
associated with the various daily work schedule. This can
include aspects such as sticking to the planned schedule and not
involving various attributes that might not be beneficial to
achieving an open discussion platform within the institution. An
effective professional strategy in the nursing platform should
further be enhanced with a perfect working mechanism in the
workplace that involves coming up with plans that will ease the
tension in the working environment.

The article is relevant towards giving the details on individual
wishing to pursue psychiatric mental health practitioning. This
aspect is because it provides detailed and substantial elements
that the practice encounters in a technical scope.
Step 2: Summary of Analysis
· Write a 2- to 3-paragraph summary that you will add to your
Academic Success and Professional Development Plan that
includes the following:
· Clearly and accurately describe in detail your approach to
16. identifying and analyzing peer-reviewed research.
· Clearly identify and accurately describe in detail at least two
strategies that you would use that you found to be effective in
finding peer-reviewed research.
· Provide a complete, detailed, and specific synthesis of at least
one resource you intend to use in the future to find peer-
reviewed research.
· Integrate at least one outside resource and 2-3 course specific
resources to fully support your summary.
Just like any other professional health practice, mental health
care is a vital part in the health care system which requires
practitioners to be well equipped. The general idea of coming
up with a well strategy to be used by mental health care givers
is to ensure that each and every aspect of the patients is well
taken care of. Additionally, it is also important to look into the
welfare of the mental care givers through considering various
aspects of their working environment which may involve
looking into the various aspects that affects their work directly.
In identifying another peer-reviewed research, it is important to
consider two strategies. The first strategy is on whether it is
specific on the roles required to be performed by mental care
givers. Does it look into what the IPEs will be required to do in
the event that there is need to make the care givers be updated
with the necessary requirements. Secondly, is that the article
must be in line with some of the laid down procedures and
requirements of mental health care givers within the required
jurisdiction. Is the guideline provided friendly to what majority
of the mental health personnel familiar with? With a perfect
strategy it is likely that a caregiver or a student will be in line
with the necessary provisions towards what it takes in ensuring
that mental health practitioners are in line with what is
generally required. Ideally, mental health resources should be
adequate in addressing some of the necessary improvements
within the scope of the sector.
One of the sources intended to be used is by Elis (2018) which
17. highlights Psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner student
preceptorship: Perspectives on the clinical training. It is an
important choice of resource because it prepares students on
some of the major issues and challenges that are necessary in
the implementation of mental health care and care giving across
all spheres of nursing. Other key resources will include findings
on how the nurse’s attitude is likely to affect the working
mechanism and the output while the other resource will be on
why is it that urgent to come up with means of improving
mental health care and how are the mental healthcare
practitioners likely to survive with an improvement in the
sector.

18. Week 5 | Part 5: Professional Development
I have developed a curriculum vitae to capture my academic and
professional accomplishments to date. I have also developed a
statement identifying one or more professional development
goals, and a statement proposing how I might align one or more
of these professional development goals with the University’s
emphasis on social change.
The results of my efforts are below.
Directions: Complete Step 1 by developing (or copying and
pasting) a curriculum vitae (CV) in the space provided.
Complete Step 2 by clearly identifying and accurately stating in
detail your professional development goals. Complete Step 3 by
clearly and accurately stating in detail how to accurately and
appropriately align one or more of your professional
development goals with the University’s emphasis on social
change.
Remember to include an introduction paragraph which contains
a clear and comprehensive purpose statement which delineates
all required criteria, and end the assignment Part with a
conclusion paragraph.
Introduction
Professional development is essential for nurses who would like
to exhaust their potential. However, it is imperative that one has
a clear professional development plan to point the way. This
part of the assignment entails my professional development plan
that should light my way to professional fulfillment.
19. Step 1: Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Use the space below to create a fully developed and accurate
curriculum vitae (CV) based on your current education and
professional background. Alternatively, you may write this in a
separate document and copy/paste the results below.
NOTE: If needed there are a variety of online resources
available with tips and samples of graduate nurse CVs.

Hobbies and Interests
I have a strong background in sports, where I played soccer on
the Campus Team. When time allows, I play soccer with friends
at a local club. In addition, I find fishing a relaxing pastime,
which I undertake at least once a week. It helps me to cool the
nerves and to ready them for my 12-hour shifts on weekdays.
When not playing soccer or fishing, I enjoy fictional thrillers
with a warm cup of green tea.
Step 2: Professional Development Goals
To complete the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program
with a specialization in Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
To acquire advanced nursing knowledge and skills in
psychology.
Step 3: Alignment with Social Change
.
One of the University’s commitments is to produce graduates
whose purpose is higher geared towards transforming the lives
of the patients under whose care they fall. In line with this
21. quest for social change, my primary professional development
goal is to complete the MSN program with a specialization in
Psychiatry. According to Hodgkinson, Godoy, Beers, and Lewin
(2016), many children in low-income areas experience mental
health problems but lack proper access to necessary care.
Therefore, I would like to help change this situation once I
attain my professional development goal. This way, I will be
fulfilling one of the University’s social change objectives.
Conclusion
An excellent professional development plan enables registered
nurses to have clear objectives and a defined line of trajectory.
As such, one can easily make adjustments as demands change.
This professional development plan lays out my future that is
built on my experience. Ultimately, it should guide me to the
attainment of set goals.

Week 6 | Part 6: Finalizing the Plan
I have considered various options for my nursing specialty,
including a close look at my selected (or currently preferred)
specialty and second-preferred specialty. I have also developed
a justification of my selected (or preferred) specialty. Lastly, I
have examined one professional organization related to my
selected or preferred specialty and considered how I can become
a member of this organization.
The results of my efforts are below.
Directions: Complete Step 1 by writing 2-3 paragraphs in the
space below comparing the nursing specialty you have selected
– or the one you prefer if your choice is still under
22. consideration - to your second preference. Identify each
specialty and describe the focus and the role that graduates are
prepared for. Identify any other differentiators you feel are
significant, especially those that helped or may help you reach a
decision.
Complete Step 2 by writing a paragraph identifying and
justifying your reasons for choosing your MSN specialization.
Be sure to incorporate any feedback you received from
colleagues in this week’s Discussion Forum.
Complete Step 3 by examining and identifying one professional
organization related to your selected or preferred specialty.
Explain how you can become a member of this organization.
Remember to include an introduction paragraph which contains
a clear and comprehensive purpose statement which delineates
all required criteria, and end the assignment Part with a
conclusion paragraph.
