As a student at Walden University with the full intention of
becoming one of the best in the field of psychiatric/mental

and a mentor to me during my MSN program as she has always
been. She is very educated and loves to teach.

Spinal Cord Injury unit. I always go to him for advices and
always point me in the right direction. Lee explained to me all
the details to me step by step on how to become a Nurse
practitioner. Lee is going to be a great help and mentor.

very important. I have chosen these academic and professional

in general or my specialty in particular.

Introduction
Despite the American working system seemingly becoming
complex to most of its working-class citizens, there are still
ways of maintaining a competitive advantage in the workplace.
An article by Bradley University explains that the transition to
or from an MSN program can be one of the toughest events to
individuals who are not perfectly prepared. The article
highlights that an individual must be both psychologically and
emotionally ready to encounter such challenges through a
thorough academic background.
Academic Resource/Strategy 1
Being always on top of assignments.
One must be able to possess educational strategies such as being
always on top of assignments. This aspect is most helpful in
that environment where there is stiff competition, and people
are majorly scrambling for the limited resources available.
Being on top of the assignments given will not only make me be
in favor of the seniors and the supervisors, but it will also
create some sense of seriousness in the eyes of the supervisors
and the seniors.
Academic Resource/Strategy 2
The second strategy is the element of schedule creation.
Coming up with a schedule ahead of the stipulated time for the
exercise can be a perfect head start for people who have
challenges in starting or keeping up with the exercise. A
schedule will not only act as a reminder but will also ensure
that I am always ahead of time.
Academic Resource/Strategy 3
The third strategy is to focus on self-care.
Self-care is a very important strategy when someone is keen on
advancing a career more so since it involves much of holistic
development both mentally and emotionally.
Professional Resource/Strategy 1
The first professional resource that might be helpful is the vast
knowledge and access to the nursing research database
(CINAHL Plus with Full Text, Medline).
These are database that is equipped with the necessary and
relevant information that is helpful towards the advancement of
the career in nursing.
Professional Resource/Strategy 2
The second important resource is the attendance of the annual
conference.
Some of the notable annual conferences include the AANP
Specialty and Leadership Conference, the National Student
Nurses Association Annual Conference, and the American
Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Professional Resource/Strategy 3
The third resource is board review courses.
These are courses that may prove helpful in building a
competent long-term legacy in the nursing field. Some of these
board review courses include Advanced Practice Education
Associates (Hollier), Core Concepts Anesthesia Review, and
Marye Dorsey Kellerman’s Necessary NP Review.
How can one use these resources?
The mentioned resources can be used to the advancement of a
career in MSN through various aspects. For instance, knowledge
and access to the nursing database can be beneficial in being
updated with whatever the field has been up to on a periodical
basis. This aspect helps to ensure that I keep in line with the
required changes. Attendance of annual nursing conferences can
be helpful in building my networks and gaining more knowledge
and information while engaging in board review courses can be
used as a platform for my career advancement through being
ahead of fellow nurses.
Conclusion
As an aspiring or a practicing nurse, it very important for me to
be up to date with some of the possible professional resources
in the field. These are the components that are highly effective
in ensuring that I am competent in the field through frequent
updates and follow-ups. Every aspiring MSN nurse in the
country should be able to at least observe any of the mentioned
academic strategies or be in full practice of the professional
resources mentioned. This is because of the competitive nature
of the nursing field, where being ahead is the key to success.

Week 3 | Part 3: Strategies to Promote Academic Integrity and
Professional Ethics
I have analyzed the relationship between academic integrity and
writing, as well as the relationship between professional
practices and scholarly ethics. I have also identified strategies I
intend to pursue to maintain integrity and ethics of my academic
work while a student of the MSN program, as well as my
professional work as a nurse throughout my career. The results
of these efforts are shared below.

Part 1: Writing Sample: The Connection Between Academic and
Professional Integrity
In the space below write a 2- 3-paragraph analysis that includes
the following:

Academic writing and academic integrity remain to be two
important terms that correlate in any given set up, which
involves both professional and academic prospects. But what is
the actual connection between these two terms? Academic
integrity, just from the name, is all about the general
observation of ethics when it comes to matters to do with
academic work. This aspect can be observed in various aspects,
which involves individuals coming up with means of protecting
the actual cause of academic prospects. Bauer College of
Business (2019) expounds that academic integrity is all about
doing the right thing even when there is no one on the lookout
in an academic set-up. They say that it is all about upholding all
the values associated with academic prospects and achievement,
such as honesty and truthfulness. Academic writing, on the
other hand, is the actual observance of academic integrity and
requirements in a piece of writing. This may involve observing
certain written codes and values that must be used to write an
academic piece while observing academic integrity. These two
components correlate in the aspect that for one to successfully
achieve academic writing, he or she must have practiced
academic integrity. One cannot achieve the writing part without
the integrity part.
What is the relation between professional practices and
scholarly ethics? In a medical set-up, professional practices can
be interpreted to mean those attributes that define people
formally observe when inter4acting with fellow workers in a
professional set-up. Scholarly ethics is the aspect of observing
academically approved interactive methods to explain or outline
a concept within a professional set-up. Mackenzie (2017)
outlines that for a successful prospect in any typical
professional condition, one must observe scholarly ethics to
achieve professional practices.
Grammarly and SafeAssign are essential tools in the process of
writing that need to be used for one to be able to come up with
quality and original work. SafeAssign tools can point out the
mistakes made by highlighting them. However, Grammarly can
point out the level of plagiarism and give a comprehensive
report of the research paper that is ready for submission. The
word counts in the paper can also be seen. While using
Grammarly, a student can fix spelling, punctuation, grammar
mistakes, and sentence structures. The presence of these tools
makes it easier for students to submit a high-quality original
paper.
PART 2: Strategies for Maintaining Integrity of Work
Expand on your thoughts from Part 1 by:
· Clearly identifying and accurately describing strategies you
intend to pursue to maintain integrity and ethics of your 1)
academic work while a student of the MSN program, and 2)
professional work as a nurse throughout your career.
· Include a clearly developed review of resources and
approaches you propose to use as a student and a professional.
As a student of MSN program, certain strategies are necessary
to maintain integrity both in the profession and in the outside
world. Dworkowitz (2013) outlines that one can observe
strategies such as sticking to one’s values. The idea of having
values is very important in the maintenance of work integrity.
This involves aspects such as observing the idea of working on
deadlines on time and having a good relationship with everyone
within the workplace. Sticking to one’s value can also be
beneficial in ensuring that one does not succumb to unnecessary
pressures since one will be able to conduct his or her affairs
within the stipulated timeframe. Secondly, one can avoid moral
complexities that may be experienced within a professional set
up, such as in the MSN. Moral complexities can easily confuse
individuals into making tough decisions that may ruin a
professional prospect, and in this case, the element of simplicity
may be key to ease such complications.
In nursing practice, integrity in the workplace can further be
achieved through various other aspects. For instance, a nurse
can choose to maintain social and emotional contact with the
patients to improve the wellbeing of the patients. This will
promote an ethical relationship with the patients, which is an
important part of professional ethics. Secondly, one can choose
to observe integrity by overcoming certain barriers that are
associated with the various daily work schedule. This can
include aspects such as sticking to the planned schedule and not
involving various attributes that might not be beneficial to
achieving an open discussion platform within the institution. An
effective professional strategy in the nursing platform should
further be enhanced with a perfect working mechanism in the
workplace that involves coming up with plans that will ease the
tension in the working environment.

Just like any other professional health practice, mental health
care is a vital part in the health care system which requires
practitioners to be well equipped. The general idea of coming
up with a well strategy to be used by mental health care givers
is to ensure that each and every aspect of the patients is well
taken care of. Additionally, it is also important to look into the
welfare of the mental care givers through considering various
aspects of their working environment which may involve
looking into the various aspects that affects their work directly.
In identifying another peer-reviewed research, it is important to
consider two strategies. The first strategy is on whether it is
specific on the roles required to be performed by mental care
givers. Does it look into what the IPEs will be required to do in
the event that there is need to make the care givers be updated
with the necessary requirements. Secondly, is that the article
must be in line with some of the laid down procedures and
requirements of mental health care givers within the required
jurisdiction. Is the guideline provided friendly to what majority
of the mental health personnel familiar with? With a perfect
strategy it is likely that a caregiver or a student will be in line
with the necessary provisions towards what it takes in ensuring
that mental health practitioners are in line with what is
generally required. Ideally, mental health resources should be
adequate in addressing some of the necessary improvements
within the scope of the sector.
One of the sources intended to be used is by Elis (2018) which
highlights Psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner student
preceptorship: Perspectives on the clinical training. It is an
important choice of resource because it prepares students on
some of the major issues and challenges that are necessary in
the implementation of mental health care and care giving across
all spheres of nursing. Other key resources will include findings
on how the nurse’s attitude is likely to affect the working
mechanism and the output while the other resource will be on
why is it that urgent to come up with means of improving
mental health care and how are the mental healthcare
practitioners likely to survive with an improvement in the
sector.

to exhaust their potential. However, it is imperative that one has

I have a strong background in sports, where I played soccer on
the Campus Team. When time allows, I play soccer with friends
at a local club. In addition, I find fishing a relaxing pastime,

nerves and to ready them for my 12-hour shifts on weekdays.
When not playing soccer or fishing, I enjoy fictional thrillers
with a warm cup of green tea.

Step 3: Alignment with Social Change
.
One of the University’s commitments is to produce graduates
whose purpose is higher geared towards transforming the lives
of the patients under whose care they fall. In line with this
quest for social change, my primary professional development
goal is to complete the MSN program with a specialization in
Psychiatry. According to Hodgkinson, Godoy, Beers, and Lewin
(2016), many children in low-income areas experience mental
health problems but lack proper access to necessary care.
Therefore, I would like to help change this situation once I
attain my professional development goal. This way, I will be
fulfilling one of the University’s social change objectives.
Conclusion
An excellent professional development plan enables registered
nurses to have clear objectives and a defined line of trajectory.
As such, one can easily make adjustments as demands change.
This professional development plan lays out my future that is
built on my experience. Ultimately, it should guide me to the
attainment of set goals.

Week 6 | Part 6: Finalizing the Plan
I have considered various options for my nursing specialty,
including a close look at my selected (or currently preferred)
specialty and second-preferred specialty. I have also developed
a justification of my selected (or preferred) specialty. Lastly, I
have examined one professional organization related to my
selected or preferred specialty and considered how I can become
a member of this organization.

  • 7. Despite the American working system seemingly becoming complex to most of its working-class citizens, there are still ways of maintaining a competitive advantage in the workplace. An article by Bradley University explains that the transition to or from an MSN program can be one of the toughest events to individuals who are not perfectly prepared. The article highlights that an individual must be both psychologically and emotionally ready to encounter such challenges through a thorough academic background. Academic Resource/Strategy 1 Being always on top of assignments. One must be able to possess educational strategies such as being always on top of assignments. This aspect is most helpful in that environment where there is stiff competition, and people are majorly scrambling for the limited resources available. Being on top of the assignments given will not only make me be in favor of the seniors and the supervisors, but it will also create some sense of seriousness in the eyes of the supervisors and the seniors. Academic Resource/Strategy 2 The second strategy is the element of schedule creation. Coming up with a schedule ahead of the stipulated time for the exercise can be a perfect head start for people who have challenges in starting or keeping up with the exercise. A schedule will not only act as a reminder but will also ensure that I am always ahead of time. Academic Resource/Strategy 3 The third strategy is to focus on self-care. Self-care is a very important strategy when someone is keen on advancing a career more so since it involves much of holistic

Professional Resource/Strategy 1 The first professional resource that might be helpful is the vast knowledge and access to the nursing research database (CINAHL Plus with Full Text, Medline). These are database that is equipped with the necessary and relevant information that is helpful towards the advancement of the career in nursing. Professional Resource/Strategy 2 The second important resource is the attendance of the annual conference. Some of the notable annual conferences include the AANP Specialty and Leadership Conference, the National Student Nurses Association Annual Conference, and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Professional Resource/Strategy 3 The third resource is board review courses. These are courses that may prove helpful in building a competent long-term legacy in the nursing field. Some of these board review courses include Advanced Practice Education Associates (Hollier), Core Concepts Anesthesia Review, and Marye Dorsey Kellerman’s Necessary NP Review. How can one use these resources? The mentioned resources can be used to the advancement of a career in MSN through various aspects. For instance, knowledge and access to the nursing database can be beneficial in being updated with whatever the field has been up to on a periodical basis. This aspect helps to ensure that I keep in line with the required changes. Attendance of annual nursing conferences can be helpful in building my networks and gaining more knowledge and information while engaging in board review courses can be
  • 9. used as a platform for my career advancement through being ahead of fellow nurses. Conclusion As an aspiring or a practicing nurse, it very important for me to be up to date with some of the possible professional resources in the field. These are the components that are highly effective in ensuring that I am competent in the field through frequent updates and follow-ups. Every aspiring MSN nurse in the country should be able to at least observe any of the mentioned academic strategies or be in full practice of the professional resources mentioned. Academic integrity, just from the name, is all about the general observation of ethics when it comes to matters to do with academic work. This aspect can be observed in various aspects, which involves individuals coming up with means of protecting the actual cause of academic prospects. These two components correlate in the aspect that for one to successfully achieve academic writing, he or she must have practiced academic integrity. One cannot achieve the writing part without the integrity part. What is the relation between professional practices and scholarly ethics? In a medical set-up, professional practices can be interpreted to mean those attributes that define people formally observe when inter4acting with fellow workers in a professional set-up. Scholarly ethics is the aspect of observing academically approved interactive methods to explain or outline a concept within a professional set-up. Mackenzie (2017) outlines that for a successful prospect in any typical professional condition, one must observe scholarly ethics to achieve professional practices. Grammarly and SafeAssign are essential tools in the process of writing that need to be used for one to be able to come up with quality and original work. SafeAssign tools can point out the mistakes made by highlighting them. However, Grammarly can point out the level of plagiarism and give a comprehensive
  • 12. report of the research paper that is ready for submission. The word counts in the paper can also be seen. While using Grammarly, a student can fix spelling, punctuation, grammar mistakes, and sentence structures. The presence of these tools makes it easier for students to submit a high-quality original paper. PART 2: Strategies for Maintaining Integrity of Work Expand on your thoughts from Part 1 by: · Clearly identifying and accurately describing strategies you intend to pursue to maintain integrity and ethics of your 1) academic work while a student of the MSN program, and 2) professional work as a nurse throughout your career. · Include a clearly developed review of resources and approaches you propose to use as a student and a professional. As a student of MSN program, certain strategies are necessary to maintain integrity both in the profession and in the outside world. Dworkowitz (2013) outlines that one can observe strategies such as sticking to one’s values. The idea of having values is very important in the maintenance of work integrity. This involves aspects such as observing the idea of working on deadlines on time and having a good relationship with everyone within the workplace. Sticking to one’s value can also be beneficial in ensuring that one does not succumb to unnecessary pressures since one will be able to conduct his or her affairs within the stipulated timeframe. Secondly, one can avoid moral complexities that may be experienced within a professional set up, such as in the MSN. Moral complexities can easily confuse individuals into making tough decisions that may ruin a professional prospect, and in this case, the element of simplicity may be key to ease such complications.
  • 13. In nursing practice, integrity in the workplace can further be achieved through various other aspects. For instance, a nurse can choose to maintain social and emotional contact with the patients to improve the wellbeing of the patients. This will promote an ethical relationship with the patients, which is an important part of professional ethics. Secondly, one can choose to observe integrity by overcoming certain barriers that are associated with the various daily work schedule. This can include aspects such as sticking to the planned schedule and not involving various attributes that might not be beneficial to achieving an open discussion platform within the institution. An effective professional strategy in the nursing platform should further be enhanced with a perfect working mechanism in the workplace that involves coming up with plans that will ease the tension in the working environment. Just like any other professional health practice, mental health care is a vital part in the health care system which requires practitioners to be well equipped. The general idea of coming up with a well strategy to be used by mental health care givers is to ensure that each and every aspect of the patients is well taken care of. Additionally, it is also important to look into the welfare of the mental care givers through considering various aspects of their working environment which may involve looking into the various aspects that affects their work directly. In identifying another peer-reviewed research, it is important to consider two strategies. The first strategy is on whether it is specific on the roles required to be performed by mental care givers. Does it look into what the IPEs will be required to do in the event that there is need to make the care givers be updated with the necessary requirements. Secondly, is that the article must be in line with some of the laid down procedures and requirements of mental health care givers within the required jurisdiction. Is the guideline provided friendly to what majority of the mental health personnel familiar with?
