An act that involves different activities which includes
traditional form of mutual aid and interventions to
provide an enabling and empowering both on the
part of the beneficiary and the volunteer, a powerful
means of bringing more people into the fold.

4. Volunteerism
Volunteerism is the practice of providing time and skills for the benefit
of other people and causes rather than for financial benefit.
Volunteerism can serve in various areas ranging from medical,
environmental, and educational support groups to child protection and
human rights advocacies. Volunteers are people willing to help others
or the community without being paid.
5. The Republic Act 9418 of the “Volunteer Act of 2007” states that it shall be the
policy of the State to promote the participation of the various sectors of the Filipino
society, and as necessary, international and foreign volunteer organizations in
public and civic affairs and adopt and strengthen the practice of volunteerism as a
strategy in order to attain national development and international understanding.
The inculcation of volunteerism as a way of life shall rekindle in every Filipino the
time-honored tradition of bayanihan to foster social justice, solidarity and
sustainable development. December 5 of every year as the National Volunteer
Day. President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed on April 10, 2007, Republic Act
9418 also known as the “Volunteer Act of 2007”.

9. Community Service
Community service is defined by the Higher Education Institution in
consultation with the local government, community-based organizations, and
non-community organizations as designed to improve the quality of life of the
community residents, particularly low-income individuals, or to solve problems
to their needs.
Community service is work done by a person or group of people that benefits
others. You do not get paid to perform community service, though sometimes
food and small gifts, like a t-shirt, are given to volunteers.
