This document summarizes the ecoReleve open source project in response to the biodiversity crisis. It notes that biodiversity data is complex with many dimensions including space, time, biology, and that great communities of biologists and developers have created ideas and open source software like FOSS4B to help. The ecoReleve project uses open data and open source software to allow scientists, field workers, and data administrators to collaborate to define protocols, collect biodiversity data in the field using mobile apps, and analyze the data. It provides demos of the Pocket eReleve mobile app and ecoReleve online data exploration and mapping tools.
