3. DID YOU ? Some of the 1 st Antarctic explorers thought that the penguins were fish so they called them that. The largest living species of penguins is the Emperor penguin adults average 1.1m tall and weigh 35kg or more. The smallest living species of penguins is the Fairy penguin (also known as the Little Blue Penguin) which is about40cm tall and weigh 1kg. Penguins are sea birds that cannot fly. They have a heavier skeleton than most birds, waterproof feathers and specialized glands that extract and excess salt. Their feathers keep them warm and they sometimes over-heat. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/penguin http://www.asoc.org/general/penguin.htm
4. PENGUIN All of the species live in the Southern hemisphere. Many live at the South Pole on Antarctica. But some don't live in such cold places. They are found on the coasts of South America, Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the Galapagos Islands. The Emperor penguin is the only species that breeds and nests in Antarctica through the frigid winter.
