A noun is a word that names a person, place, thing, or idea.
A common noun is a general name for a person, place or thing.
A proper noun names a specific person, place or thing and is ALWAYS capitalized.

There are FOUR different kinds of nouns: Concrete (common), Proper, Abstract,
Collective.
1. Concrete (common) nouns are nouns that can be touched, heard, seen, smelled

or tasted. Ex: blueberry, dog, feather, thunder, chocolate, rainbow.
On the path we spotted a large, slithery snake.
2. Abstract nouns are nouns that name an idea, feeling, quality, or characteristic.

Ex: freedom, beauty, humor, greed, happiness, fear.
I had a dream that all slaves received their freedom.
3. Proper Nouns are nouns that name a specific person place or thing, and are

ALWAYS capitalized.
4. A Collective Noun is a word that names a group of people or things. Ex:

committee, team, family, group, class, trio, flock, herd, murder, pack
Our family gathered around the campfire and listened to the pack of wolves howl.
