Types of Sentences Notes
Sentences are made up of independent and dependent clauses. There are four different types of
sentences: simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex. The type of each sentence
depends on how many independent and dependent clauses are in it.
Sentence Type

Made up of:

Simple

1 Independent Clause + NO Dependent Clauses

Compound

2 Independent Clauses joined by a conjunction or a semi-colon + NO
Dependent Clauses
1 Independent Clause + 1 or more Dependent Clauses

Complex
CompoundComplex

2 Independent Clauses + 1 or more Dependent Clauses
