The document discusses how social pressure can make us feel anxious about public performances even if we are skilled, as was the case with the author learning piano in private but not wanting others to know. It also explores how unexpected positive feedback can boost confidence more than we realize, as the author experienced after giving speeches. The key point is that feelings of confidence or lack thereof are often more internally generated than based on our actual abilities or the reactions of others.
Get Rid Of Approach Anxiety Once And For AllGeorge Hutton
Most guys are incredibly nervous when approaching girls due to assumptions they make about a girl's looks and personality without talking to her. This document recommends having "deal breakers" like smoking, religion, or political views, and talking to girls just long enough to discover these deal breakers and disqualify the girl in your mind without rejection. Doing this with 10-20 girls will help realize there is more to girls than looks and destroy feelings of needing to qualify to a "perfect" girl, making future approaches less anxiety-inducing.

It provides examples of common limiting beliefs, such as that making money is hard or public speaking is scary, which people often just accept as true without testing them. The document suggests that while accepting beliefs from others helped with survival in the past, it can now be problematic if the beliefs are not actually true and limit us from achieving our goals. It encourages the reader to reflect on what limiting beliefs they may have accepted without questioning.

Two high school friends went to explore some unfinished houses late at night. While walking through the skeleton frames of the homes, they saw a dark shape in the distance and imagined it was a mean dog, frightening them. Instead of investigating, they convinced themselves it was safer to return to watching videos at a friend's house, avoiding the unknown risk. The document argues that we often imagine the unknown as something scary and choose known safety over facing uncertainty, but embracing risk is necessary to achieve meaningful things in life like relationships, success, and fulfillment.

The Real Sherlock Holmes - The Mini Monographs With Ben CardallMX Publishing
Ben Cardall is the UK's leading deductionist. In this presentation he gives some insghts into deduction taken from his bestselling book 'The Monographs'.
The document discusses putting up "informational firewalls" or barriers to avoid exposing one's true self and inner experiences out of fear of rejection. It suggests that living with a prolonged sense of adolescence and evading exposure of one's life experiences can be like quicksand, leading to immobility. However, choosing growth both within and without through critical self-evaluation can lead to a more positive, useful and joyful life. It advises not worrying about the unknown future but rather trusting that life will provide opportunities for growth.
Here are three key reasons why this newsletter scam works:
1. Selection bias - The newsletter only publicizes the correct predictions and hides all the incorrect ones. With hundreds of stocks, a few will inevitably move as predicted by chance.
2. Small sample size - Six predictions in a row could easily happen by chance given the large number of stocks. More predictions are needed to establish a valid pattern.
3. Regression to the mean - Extreme stock movements in one period will tend to be followed by a reversal in the next period just through normal fluctuation. This is exploited to create false predictions.
Rather than being impressed, one should be skeptical of any claims of predictive powers without transparent disclosure of all predictions made. Chance

This document provides a collection of quotes and reflections from SXSWi 2015. Some key insights include:
- SXSWi is still a unique gathering for tech innovators but the increasing popularity has brought more noise and excess.
- The event inspires optimism and leaves attendees feeling motivated and inspired, if overwhelmed by the volume of content and people.
- New technologies are changing how media is consumed, such as more people watching YouTube than TV.
- Data is increasingly valuable for both businesses and healthcare, with personal devices and apps providing more personalized experiences and care.
- Innovation requires an openness to failure and new ideas, whether your own or those of others on your team. Co-creation and collaboration
As part of our book reading club in eBay, I did a talk about one of my favourites book "The Art of Thinking Clearly". Here are some snapshots from the book in my own words.
1. The document discusses creativity and how it is defined as the ability to create or bring something new into existence through imagination and skill.
2. It argues that creativity is inherent in all people, especially children, but that education and societal pressures discourage creativity by imposing limits and penalizing deviations from the standard.
3. Multiple factors contribute to the development of creativity, including opportunities, encouragement, training, motivation and practice. True genius results from extensive training over many years rather than innate talent alone.
The document provides a summary of Nassim Nicholas Taleb's book "Fooled by Randomness". It discusses some of the key concepts in the book, including: (1) how chance and randomness play a larger role in life outcomes than people realize (2) the impact of survivorship bias in only seeing successful outcomes (3) how small events can have disproportionately large consequences in non-linear systems. The book argues that people tend to overestimate their abilities and fail to properly account for the role of randomness, luck, and uncertainty in their successes and failures.
This essay discusses themes of blindness and fighting stereotypes in Ralph Ellison's novel "Invisible Man". The unnamed narrator believes he is invisible to society due to his race. Though wanting achievement, he is limited by the color of his skin in a white world. The essay analyzes how the narrator is blindly led by the college president, Mr. Bledsoe, who wants to maintain the status quo to retain his own power, rather than empower his race. The narrator's blindness to his true situation is a theme explored in the novel through the narrator's experiences with stereotypes, preconceptions and racial limitations.
How To Blast Through Any Obstacle In Your PathGeorge Hutton
The document discusses how seemingly negative events or "obstacles" can be reframed as opportunities for learning and progress toward one's goals. It argues that failure is an inevitable and necessary part of achieving anything significant, and that by viewing challenges as lessons rather than impediments, one can maintain a growth mindset and continue making strides even when plans run into difficulties. Reframing obstacles as learning experiences opens up possibilities for utilizing them productively rather than feeling defeated.
Col. Sanders experienced over 1009 rejections before someone agreed to sell his chicken recipe. He possessed an unwavering belief that kept him trying for over two years, living in his car, until he succeeded in creating the Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise that became worth millions. The document discusses how many famous and successful people faced numerous rejections and obstacles but persisted through belief in themselves and their ideas to eventually achieve great things. Maintaining a positive attitude and thinking beyond limitations are presented as keys to accomplishing goals others may see as impossible.

The document discusses balancing risk and caution in life. It notes that while curiosity is good, being too curious and taking unnecessary risks can lead to harm. Some people take too few risks and end up dependent on others. The key is finding a balance of risk-taking and caution, curiosity and awareness, slowly expanding one's comfort zone at their own pace. This allows steady growth over time rather than waiting for things to happen or taking reckless actions.

This document discusses customizing one's brain through learning and practice. It uses an analogy of a man customizing his small red convertible car with unique gauges and dials. Similarly, most people use their brain in a standard, uncustomized way by going through school and work like everyone else. However, customizing one's brain through learning how to think differently can allow one to handle unexpected challenges without getting stuck like others might. It suggests starting today to learn how to customize one's brain so you can take action and leave others behind when faced with new situations.

Why You Must Always Embrace Trial and ErrorGeorge Hutton
The document discusses how trial and error is crucial for learning new skills. It notes that throughout history and in fields like apprenticeships, learning was achieved through copying others and making mistakes. While modeling experts can help accelerate learning, being willing to accept mistakes and feedback from attempts is necessary for real success. The document advocates for taking action rather than waiting for perfect instructions, as trying things and learning from results, even perceived failures, provides valuable experience and knowledge that learning what not to do is not so bad.
Delaying gratification is the key to success according to the document. It argues that humans evolved the ability to delay current pleasures for future gains, which allowed the development of societies and agriculture. Delaying gratification requires comparing present and future pleasures and choosing to build up greater future pleasure through delayed enjoyment now. Practicing this skill of delaying gratification can improve success by making it easier to build a huge future for oneself through compound growth and momentum over time.

Covey says most people look for quick fixes. They see a big success and want to know how he did it, believing (and hoping) they can do the same following a quick bullet list.
But real change, the author says, comes not from the outside in, but from the inside out. And the most fundamental way of changing yourself is through a paradigm shift.
That paradigm shift is a new way of looking at the world. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People presents an approach to effectiveness based on character and principles.
The first three habits indeed deal with yourself because it all starts with you. The first three habits move you from dependence from the world to the independence of making your own world.
Habits 4, 5 and 6 are about people and relationships. The will move you from independence to interdependence. Such, cooperating to achieve more than you could have by yourself.
The last habit, habit number 7, focuses on continuous growth and improvement.
4. The red pill will remove the scales

5. The blue pill is so he goes back to

6. The red pill / blue pill dichotomy was

"borrowed" it from many stories from
before, in various forms.
7. When they say that "ignorance is

8. By taking the "blue pill," and staying
