Northridge Area High School is a new 7-12 school opening in fall 2012 that encourages risk-taking, curiosity, and pursuit of new challenges through a supportive community. Students will graduate ready for community, college, and careers by exploring passions through personalized projects and challenging academics, engaging in field studies and service learning, and developing caring relationships that foster integrity, responsibility, and respect.

Northridge Area High School Opening in the fall of 2012 Open to all students grades 7-12 Students enrolled at Northridge Area High School will graduate ready for Community, Career and College through: Exploring their passion through personalized, student driven projects, small learning communities and challenging academics. Field studies and inquiry based curriculum so that students will be meaning- fully engaged in their school and greater community through learning and service. Caring relationships where students and staff are lifelong learners that will model integrity, responsibility and respect for themselves, each other and the world around them.

4. Design Elements Project Based Learning- Interdisciplinary learning though projects for the individual and groups, offers the learner a choice and is a natural way to cross over and into many disciplines at once. Advisory- This allows the teacher and their students to stay together as a family unit for the duration of their learning career. In advisory, we will utilize multiage grouping of our students. Expedition Learning- Day and overnight expeditions will be planned into our school calendar, appropriate to the age group. Experiential Learning- Is learning by doing, it includes knowledge and skills acquired outside of book/lecture learning situations through work, play, and other life experiences. Environmental Learning- This approach will teach students how natural environments function and, particularly, how we can manage our behavior and ecosystems in order to live sustainably. Our school will model for others how to be stewards of our local environment. Technology Driven- Technology is vital to support our curriculum and research around PBL. NAHS will maintain small student base ratio per computer and internet access for greater use of technology as a learning tool to prepare students for the 21st Century. Parents and Community- Parents and community experts will be actively engaged with students to support learning.

5. Design Essentials School Year: Our learning year will follow a late August through late May/June for the core year plus an additional summer session which will focus and an expeditionary element. This is still in the development stages. School Week: Our learning week will be Monday-Thursday. Fridays will be planned to be staff planning, staff professional development and or open lab days for students and families. School Day: The learning day will be divided into two parts. The morning session will be an Advisory-led Project Based Learning. The afternoon session will be spent in a seminar, or in the community doing service learning and field studies.
