Local political leaders have been crucial in efforts to move communities toward a solutions-focused homelessness system. In doing so, they have convinced other local opinion leaders to make ending homelessness a top priority. Speakers will facilitate a robust discussion around why it’s important to get political leaders involved in the fight to end homelessness locally, how to do so, and the benefits for the community.

Investigating City Commitments to 100% Renewable EnergyTony G. Reames
A number of United States (U.S.) cities are proposing and implementing bold sustainable solutions in order to combat
the social, environmental, and economic impacts of climate change. Cities of all sizes around the country are taking
control by pledging to reach community-wide goals of 100% renewable energy. However, many of these cities are
unsure of how to meet these commitments. Although the renewable energy potential throughout the U.S. is strong,
cities are facing other types of challenges that are hindering their ability to progress swiftly to meet the commitment.

This session will feature workgroup participants leading off a roundtable discussion about why we need a stronger “housing lens” in state government, what that might look like, and how we work to create it.

In this workshop, Pathways to Education showcases its new interactive mapping tool - a key component of its approach to program expansion and improvement, partner engagement, and community knowledge. By providing insights into educational attainment rates, poverty trends, and other indicators throughout Canada, the new data visualization tool is helping the organization build a thoughtful and demand-driven expansion strategy and ensure effective program offerings, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and greater issue awareness.
Session participants learned how the mapping tool is helping Pathways to Education understand unique socio-demographic contexts of existing and potential program sites, and how this type of tool can benefit other Canadian nonprofits, foundations, and the general public.
This session also outlined the challenges inherent in working with big data and highlight key insights gained from the project. The presenters shared specific examples of how the tool has already helped to spark conversations and raise awareness about the barriers and solutions facing at-risk youth and communities throughout Canada.
Some communities are much better equipped than others to shape the area they live in and to use the new opportunities that the Localism agenda affords to co-design and deliver public services. Whether in terms of human and financial capital or levels of volunteering and prevalence of voluntary organisations, it is the more affluent neighbourhoods and communities that have a head start. If we disregard this fact, the whole localist agenda could inadvertently exacerbate existing inequalities rather than closing the gap.

Developing a sector led plan for norfolk - consultation events full responsesNorfolkRCC
VCS Engage is the three year programme of investment from Norfolk County Council to support as strong dialogue between Norfolk’s voluntary, community and social enterprise sector and Norfolk County Council. Momentum (Norfolk), Norfolk RCC and West Norfolk VCA are working closely together to deliver this.
As part of this we are developing a Sector Led Plan, a statement of the challenges facing the sector and what we collectively want to achieve over the next few years.
This is being done in a number of stages. The first stage was a series of workshops and one to one interviews. This document provides the full responses of the feedback from the workshops, a summary document has also been published to provide a better overview of the issues raised.
The second stage is a survey based on the feedback from the first stage. The survey is now live! If you haven’t completed it and are a Norfolk based voluntary, community of social enterprise organisation please do so now and have your say http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/vcsengage
This is the introduction presentation to the Sector Led Plan initial engagement events delivered in Nov/Dec 2014. The Sector Led Plan is designed to help provide a more proactive evidence base on the needs and issues of Norfolk's voluntary sector and the communities they support. It is a joint initiative of Momentum Norfolk, Norfolk RCC and West Norfolk VCS as part of the VCS engage voluntary and community sector support programme.

Welcome to the new Mizzima Weekly !
Mizzima Media Group is pleased to announce the relaunch of Mizzima Weekly. Mizzima is dedicated to helping our readers and viewers keep up to date on the latest developments in Myanmar and related to Myanmar by offering analysis and insight into the subjects that matter. Our websites and our social media channels provide readers and viewers with up-to-the-minute and up-to-date news, which we don’t necessarily need to replicate in our Mizzima Weekly magazine. But where we see a gap is in providing more analysis, insight and in-depth coverage of Myanmar, that is of particular interest to a range of readers.

In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.
