Before analysing the video is important to define what is communication. Communication is an act
of transmitting information such as thoughts, ideas, and emotions furthermore, those elements can
also be expressed with verbal communication and nonverbal gestures, signs, and symbols (Hargie,
2011). Moreover, it is necessary to understand the difference between conventional implication and
conversational implication. In the first case the linguistical meaning is attached to the message itself
and in the second case, the meaning of the message is implied therefore is different from the
linguistic meaning (Blome–Tillmann, 2013).
Now that the concepts are clarified it is possible to analyse the video starting with explaining the

In the video, there are two sets of parents meeting to find a solution to the incident that happened
between their children. The couples are gathered together in the apartment of the attacked child
Ethan to write a statement of the incident. Ethan's parents, which will be referred as couple number
1, wrote the statement using a technical and specific language style while Zackary's parents, couple

Introduction to the Topic The assigned reading for forum 5 discussed interpersonal and
organizational communication channels in the workplace. The different types of communication are
oral communication, formal written communication, non–verbal communication, and presentations.
Satterlee (2013) shows the communication process to involve a sender, a receiver, meaning,
encoding, the message transmittal, a channel, decoding, interpreting, and feedback. A successful
leader will be able to communicate clearly at all levels in an organization. The best method for

Total communication is a way of educating children with a loss of hearing, this system incorporates

language, listening, lipreading, and speech. In these TC programs it is most common that the

hear. It can even be difficult to understand depending on how the feedback is being given and

a biomedical perspective. According to this perspective, disability is about having functional
limitations mostly caused by a health condition and some are caused by genetics. Disability can
occur to anyone at any time, even some individuals are born with a disability. There are many kinds
of disabilities, it can be difficulties in vision, hearing, physical, speech or language, learning, and
much more. Some of these disabilities are permanent and visible but some are hidden or cannot be

Selective Mutism (SM) is a speech disorder that is not often visible to others. Individuals who have

We are losing our listening because of a noisy world, the technological advances of audio and video
recording, personal broadcasting, and media headlines. It is becoming harder for us to pay attention
because of all of the world's noises and the media taking our attention. We need to take time out to
be aware of sounds to improve listening which heighten our senses to improve the ability to pay
attention. I can improve my own listening by taking a few minutes out of my day to appreciate

Communicating effectively is important and integrated in all societies and has many different
qualities that are important, like: empathy, clarity, physical expression, and effort. Empathy is
important because without understanding where someone is coming you cannot properly understand
what they are saying in many situations. For example, one expression can have different emotions
for different people, like "I went to my grandparent's house." For some people this is a happy thing,
while for others it may be uncomfortable, in this situation empathy would help create an appropriate
response. Clarity is also important, if you leave an unclear message your words may be
misinterpreted. For example, when I fight with my mom it is normally caused by a simple
misunderstanding due to lack of clarity. Physical expression is also important because your actions
towards another person, as well as facial expressions, can impact the view of a conversation or make
up the conversation in whole. For example, you could say that someone is looking nice, but based

Most people hear the word verbal behavior and automatically think of speech. Skinner defined
verbal behavior as "behavior reinforced through the mediation of other persons needs" (Skinner,
2015, p. 2). It is in this definition that we can find understanding in the true meaning of verbal
behavior; "any movement capable of affecting another organism may be verbal" (Skinner, 2015,
p.14) if, when and how it affects the listener. Knowing this, we can understand that verbal behavior
goes beyond vocalizations and can include other forms that affect the listener.
Children diagnosed with ASD usually have some form of communication delay, some may even
have an absence of any meaningful verbal behavior. "The absence of vocal verbal behavior leaves
minimally vocal children without an effective form of communication" (Carbone et al., 2010, p.
705). In this absence, children without effective forms of communication are usually left feeling
frustrated and will demonstrate some sort of socially inappropriate behaviors like aggression.
Through interventions goals, behavior analyst strive to achieve growth in the communicative
repertoire of the child.

A business setting requires that the people concerned communicate effectively with each other in
order to reduce negative consequences that would be as a result of misunderstanding or damaged
relationship. There are many barriers that would hinder any business communication process. These
includes cliché, jargon, slang, sexist and racist language, euphemism, double speak. This essay
briefly described these barriers to communication in a business setting.
Cliché is a barrier of communication because it entails the use of once clever word or phrase that has

During my clinical experience I was given the opportunity to talk to some very unique and
interesting individuals. The people in the facilities I visited seemed to be very lonely and somewhat
desperate for some real human interaction. In most facilities the CNA is the only person available to

communication changes as well. As a result of evolving industries, the way people communicate
begins to shift because of society moves forward with the technology. As Kriz Axtman and David

"Texting", new innovation, social tendencies, and beliefs in life, all have been influenced by modern
forms of communication. Instant messaging, online chat rooms, and tweeting have ended up

such as "OMG" for "oh my gosh", which show just how much we have become accustomed to

that it reveals how rooted messaging is becoming in society, as well as how it impacts our everyday

what language to use has an impact on perception of our message, so when communicating it is
important to know not only how different language can benefit a communication, but also how it can
be a hindrance. There are 6 barriers in language that can have ill–effects on the message that is being
conveyed: clichés, jargon, slang, sexism/racism, euphemisms and doublespeak. This essay will

Clichés are phrases, words or references that lack originality. "Actions speak louder than words,"
"The grass is always greener on the other side," "Don't judge a book by its cover," and "you can't

clichés is that they have been overused, minimizing their impact (McLean, 2010). Since clichés "are
general statements that do not add any detailed evidence or unique support," (The University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill, n.d.) communications including these words or phrases take on a
more commonly–associated meaning than specifically what you are trying to convey (McLean,
2010).
Jargon is another way to lessen the impact of a communication. Jargon is language specific to an
industry, profession, trade or product that is used by the people familiar with them. Some examples
of jargon are acronyms, or even words that

Communication mediums varied depending on the situation. In law enforcement, choosing the right
medium source for the message can save lives and protect sensitive information. In contrast, an
improper medium distribution may cause confusion, implicate unwanted messages, and compromise
public safety. Accordingly, when selecting communication mediums, the audience should be
identified before a message is crafted and disseminated. Moreover, having someone with a working
knowledge of the spectrum of communication methods and proficient at public speaking can be
beneficial for a public safety agency (Patrick, 2017). In communication, choosing the correct
method and medium will depend on the types of messaging and whether it is directed at the public,
for internal information exchange, or to be communicated with other agencies. In law enforcement,
a myriad of communication mediums is available. However, agencies should be selective in
determining which medium will be more appropriate, depending on the communication goal. On
May 6, 2016, an elderly senile woman was reported missing in San Diego. The woman suffers from
Alzheimer and had been missing for 2–hours before the police were notified. Patrol officers
responded to the home of the missing woman and began gathering information about the woman
and her habits. Working against harsh terrain, above normal temperature, and fading daylight, a
Command Post was established and additional officers and volunteers were enlisted to initiate a
ground search. The ground search team traced possible routes the woman may have taken and went
door–to–door, asking for assistance from the surrounding neighborhoods. The incident Commander
also requested announcements be made via the police helicopter to reach more people. The police
department's Media Relations Unit prepared a flyer with the woman's photo and identification and
released it to the local News outlet. The Media Unit also posted the information on the department's
Facebook page and NextDoor.com (a web–based information network) to alert not only the
surrounding neighborhoods, but anyone on the site can see, comment, and share the information. By
nightfall, the woman had not been found. The incident

the international business. However, this is not always true if one takes in additional changes within
the balance of economic power and the increasing mobility of the global workforce. Modern
technology and shifts in national policy are common factors that influence the way English is used
and taught. With the growth of the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) economies, the balance
of power has changed, and the economic primacy of the countries where English is a native
language can no longer be taken for granted (Graddol, 2006). Combined with the number of native
English speakers are falling in absolute terms, soon to fall into fifth place behind Mandarin, Spanish,
Hindi–Urdu, and Arabic (Sweeney & Hua, 2010). Although numbers of non–native speakers of
English are increasing, Sweeney & Hua (2010) estimates that about a quarter of the world's
population speaks English to a reasonable standard; by the year twenty–sixty, he estimates that non–
native speakers will outnumber native speakers by fifty percent. However, its position and its nature
could be the key is preparing to learn how to use different methods for communicating differences
